Ubuntu 9.10 not working do not under Vmware Workstation 7

My OS is Windows 7 pro and I'm using Vmware Workstation 7. I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed and it is powered OFF.  He worked at one point but does not work now. "I get ' permission on file - cannot locate the VMDK errors."   I want to upgrade from VMware Workstation 8. Should I go to the control panel and REMOVE Ubuntu 9.10 before installing Workstation 8 or will the upgrade fix, regardless of the errors I receive?   Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated.   Thanks in advance.

From what you wrote it would be interesting to check the permissions of NTFS from the virtual computer. You should check the files using the Explorer. Where is your computer virtual stored or saved? Have you moved?

  • Why does not turn VMware Workstation in a less than authorized VMware Workstation OS prompt, if not supported?

    Hey

IM wondering why isn't VMware Workstation must be installed and running (with virtual machines) on a guest operating system in VMware Workstation... I understand if it is not supported (such as it is running a virtual machine on a virtual machine that could be run on another virtual machine... you get the point), but at least allow him...

When you try to turn on a virtual computer, we check the existence of the backdoor in a process that runs at CPL 3 and IOPL 0 VMware.  If we find the VMware backdoor, we refuse to let turn on the nested VM.  The vmx.allowNested configuration option to bypass this check.  However, if you have restricted the backdoor to the guest code that runs with IOPL > = CPL (using the option monitor_control.restrict_backdoor to the external virtual machine), then we can't find the door VMware backdoor, and we let you turn the nested in any case virtual machine.  Thus, if the external virtual machine is set up correctly, you don't need the vmx.allowNested option.

In future versions, we can also check to see if you are running under some other hypervisor that announces its presence through pieces of CPUID feature.  If so, we will refuse to turn on the nested VM.  In this case, you will need the vmx.allowNested option to circumvent these controls.

  • Ubuntu 11.04 very slow after upgrade to VMWare Workstation 8.0

    Hello

After the update to VMWare Workstation 8.0 my Ubuntu 11.04 comments system (which worked very well with Workstation 7) behaves very slow sometimes.

Slowly I want to say first that it is very laggy when I scroll conent inside windows, and also when I move windows.

And with sometimes I want to say that this is not always the case. Sometimes, everything works fine for 1 or 2 hours and she begins and, sometimes, that's the problem immediately after starting Ubuntu.

The problem occurs when restart Ubuntu does not help. But what is stopping Ubuntu and also restart VMWare Workstation on the host (in my case Windows 7) completely. When I do this and I'm lucky everything seems normal again for a while (1 or 2 hours). After that starts all over again.

VMWare Tools is installed and the comments system has more then enough resources. I also improved the virtuale image to the latest version so that the new features in Workstation 8.0 are available.

I first thought that maybe it's a RAM problem but the system begins to lag when there is still 1 GB + RAM available and 0.0% swap used.

Any ideas what I could do? This is quite annoying...

You can see the same bug that is described in this thread: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1840185#1840185

  • Unable to Boot PXE under VMWare Workstation

Note: This is a LABORATORY environment!

    I have 2 servers

    SRV1 - DHCP, ADDS

    SRV2 - WDS

Both are installed in VMWare Workstation 12 and is assigned to a Segment named "Server LAN" local network.

    I have 2 Workstation

WKS1 - no BONES and Belonged to a local Network Segment named "LAN Workstation"

WKS2 - with OS (Win8) and Belonged to a local Network Segment named "LAN Workstation"

1 Virtual router connected both the Segment of LAN 'Server LAN' and 'LAN workstation.

Virtual router is configufed for transfer/DHCP relay.

I can say that the DHCP relay works because WKS2 can get an ip address from the SRV1 when starting Windows 8. However, WKS1 and WKS2 in PXE startup I get this message.
    Capture.PNG

    Any ideas?

I solved the problem, it turns out that option 66 and 67 was not configured in my DHCP for the scope that has been maintaining the "LAN workstation.

I have configured the DHCP in SRV1

Option 66 for point on my WDS server.

and Option 67 to point to the 64-bit version of wdsnbsp.com in the wds server.

  • Windows under Vmware Workstation 7 8

    Hello

With Vmware Workstation 8, can I create a virtual machine in which I could you Installer Windows 7?

Thanks in advance if anyone has any experience of this.

    Kind regards

Yes, sure, no problem. And if you go on the Compatibility Guide ( http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility ), you're looking for in the guest operating system section, pay the proceeds Workstation with Windows 7 as OS name of family, you will find that Windows 7 and SP1, 32-bit or 64-bit are supported on WS 8.0. Also, if you create a new virtual machine, you can choose Windows 7 as guest operating system. It is the proof that it works.

  • 2.04 Ubuntu comments on VMware Workstation 9 under Win7 can't see ext4 USB drive

Comments from 2.04 Ubuntu on VMware Workstation 9 under Win7: on computer A trivially, I connected to an out-of-the-box 64 GB USB drive formatted for VFAT on Ubuntu in a VM. I re-init'ed the player for ext4 (mkfs.ext4), mounted, drop a bunch of stuff on him (which took awhile), he dismounted and walked away. The next day, identically configured computer B, I inserted the USB key. Natch, Win7 may not go up because it does not ext4. But Ubuntu don't see either, so I can't be installed. Do not see under removable devices, no small icon bottom left of the screen of VMware, nothing in the settings menus or properties, etc. I think it's just me being a noob to VMware, but it seems that Ubuntu under VMware Workstation 9 cannot see the drive unless Win7 can go up. Seems unlikely. KB searching, Googling, etc. produce many unrelated things. Ideas? AdvTHANKSance.

Here is the final answer: works great on an earlier version of VMware Workstation 9 on one of the Windows 7 of my client machines, it didn't work on my Windows 7 computer. I upgraded to VMware Workstation 10 on my Windows 7 computer, and now it works perfectly. If I call you this a bug in this version later 9 which was set at 10. Could also be had I simply uninstalled 9 and reinstalled which would have fixed it too. But I'll never know.

  • RHEL or centos 5.3 does not work under vmware to 6.5.2

    Hi all

I use vmware to 6.5.2 workstation on linux.

RHEL or centos 5.3 does not work under vmware 6.5.2. When I launch a 5.3 rhel or centos 5.3 on vmware workstation 6.5.2 on linux installation and configuration goes off well. and I can't connect to the internet as well. normally, I put a static IP address and move forward with things.

but once I'm done for the day I closed the comments and also the host machine. When I start the computer host the next day I get a message (I moved it Cancel I copied it)

normally, I click on "I copied it" and move forward. When I start the operating system, I find that IP in DHCP address switches and the many changes that I made to go to pot. It normally happens when I create a linked to the base OS clone original.

never, I face this problem when I used it with vmware for windows and I used this clone related all this time.

could someone please shed more light on this? I do not feel this type of error deskto openfiler or suse. I use clone bound only with openfiler and suse.

that linked clones are of concern. Here's what I do.

I have install say hundred os 5.3 as a basic OS and do not touch.

    Ok

When I want to test something on this subject I create a linked clone (which automatically creates a snapshot).

now when I want to create another instance of hundred bones, I create another clone related base (another cliché separate) and work on it.

Although for Workstation is you actually have a 'new' virtual machine and if you copied or moved is a good question. The problem is that most people do not understand the consequences of the choice of one over the other. If you have NEVER 2 clones related running at the same time, then you would like just to use the "move" option In this case your linked clone is just an advanced preview where you have 2 lines long that are independent from each other.

OTOH if you go for a start more as a related clone, then you will get problems when they are in the same network they will try both to claim the same IP because they have the same MAC address network. This can cause all sorts of weird problems. If you choose the option "clone", while these problems do not occur, but you will have to reset some settings such as address IP etc...

There is no hope for the sharing of files between the host and the guest?

Ok! After a few hours searching on the Internet I found someone who has the solution (https://github.com/rasa/vmware-tools-patches).

The host is runing VMWare Workstation 9.0.3 build-1410761

    The guest is a Kali (uname-r: Linux kali kali1 - 3.12 EAP-686 SMP 3.12.6 - 2kali1 Debian #1 (2014-01-06) i686 GNU/Linux)

    1 - run: apt - get install dkms build-essential linux-headers-$(uname-r) psmisc

    2 - run: git clone https://github.com/rasa/vmware-tools-patches.git

    3 - run: cd vmware-tools-fixes/patches

4 remove all files except "vmhgfs".

5 - Download the latest VMwareTools by clicking the bar of VMWare > VM > install/reinstall VMWare Tools. It will open a virtual CD that contains the file 'tar '.

    6 - copy VMwareTools - 9.2.4 - 1398046.tar.gz "vmware-tools-patches" folder.

    7. on "vmware-tools-patches" folder, run:./untar-and-patch-and-compile.sh

This procedure worked for me. I didn't even need to restart the virtual machine. All shared folders are now working.

How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

    https://secure.TX.Acer.com/rcdb/main.aspx?brand=Acer

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Also, ask them if you still have on your computer/laptop recovery Partition to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you press F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

You can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
