UCS Service profiles

I have a UCS chassis with 8 blades B200 M3 (run 2.0.5a). Each blade contains a 1240 VIC and a 1280 of VIC. The blades have a service profile that is already associated with them and everything works fine. I bought cards cache for these EMC xtreme blades so I need stop each blade, remove the VIC 1280 and insert the new card cache xtreme. My question: will I be able to re - associate the original service profile for blades once I inserted cards cache xtreme or do I have to create a new service profile template and create new service profiles?

I know that I get an error when I try to associate a profile of invalid service for a blade, but I have trying to figure out if this will work before I do actually.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Ernes,

About the association of profile service, you can use the same profile after making changes on the hardware and the creation of new service profiles is not necessary.

I guess you refer to LSI 400GO SLC warpdrive adapter when you are referring to the memory card cover xterme EMC.

  • How to move a stand-alone series C of Cisco UCS managed service profile without losing any data?

    Hello

We currently have a stand-alone series cisco C with 2012 Windows Server installed on the local disks.  We need to go this Cisco UCS server managed with a service profile, but can not lose existing data and the method of operating system boot.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Hi Adrien,.

To be able to accomplish this together the local drive to 'any Configuration' policy this way UCSM won't overwrite the current raid on the server configuration.

  • Service profile of the CISCO UCS for ESXi

Do you need multiple boot LUN on the storage array for each host that you want to apply the service profile to? I'm just confused, let's say I have 12 blades that I want to designate as boot SAN for ESXi, y aura-t 12 profiles of separate service for each of them, and will need me 12 different LUNS on our storage? I am new to this and I just want to make it as clean as possible! Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Justin,

You can have the same LUN ID for multiple service profiles, as well as the same target ID. However, your initiators will be different and you will need to configure the zoning on your switch upstream if you use the end host mode.

Here is a good guide, review the basics and how to put in place.

  • Failover service profile

I do not think that this feature exists, yet, but wanted to see if anyone has a way to do or know if he is coming.

Is it possible to have the UCS Manager "Failover" a profile of service if the current blade that the service profile is running on dies. Something like this:

-Blade Dies (failure of CPU, ripped off, etc.)

-UCS Manager detects that the blade is dead

-The service profile is no longer active with this blade

-The service profile is associated with a new blade

    -The new blade is powered

Of course, there will be warnings, do not use local disk, etc..

Is it possible to do today?

    Thank you

Integrating the failover of SP in UCSM, is something that has been thought and is discussed in.

It was not a concept not therefore committed no timelines associated with him.

Currently you can do it via an external system to UCS however.

If you look at the community of developers for UCS http://developer.cisco.com/web/unifiedcomputing/resources/-/document_library/view/2144116

failover ServiceProfile.zip that does roughly what you mentioned there. As this is a developer forum, you can only edit/contribute to it also.

Without doubt, this feature will be good to have in UCSM instead of having an external system survey, is that in this case but still is a very useful to have script.

    It will be useful.

    Thank you

  • Rename the Service profile after creating through model

    Hello

first... I found a discussion earlier, but from 2010, so he's changed a lot. At that time, it was scheduled for a future implementation

Creating profiles of server through service templatesalways adds a number (based on how to generate profiles).

But I don't need this number. We have a nameconvention for servers on ends with a zero (such as abcd9000).

So, how can I use the models without numbers (leaving blank does not work) .or how can I change the name of the new profile service?

We run on the 1.4(3q) Version.

    Concerning

    Silvio

Currently, it is not possible to rename the objects. What you can do here, use the creation of a Clone function that is available when you click on a Service profile existing (SP). This gives you the opportunity to choose a new name altogether and the location of the SP.a cloned. It is very useful if you use address pools in the SP master because the cloned SP automatically borrows a same pool addresses. If you're bored after clicking on create a Clone of 30 times, it's something that you can easily automate with the power of the UCS Toolkit (unit Powershell cmdlets 1300 +).

  • Select the HBA in the default Service profile

    Hello

The hope that you could help us.  We have a system UCS running firmware 1.3 (1) and use our LAN connectivity & HBA QLogic CNAs.

I was wondering if there was a way in the BIOS (or elsewhere) policy to allow default host bus adapters for each time assign us a Service profile, they are disabled by default.  Go into the BIOS (CTRL-Q) to the adapter.

I've looked everywhere but cannot know where it or where the configuration may be.  Would be grateful of any idea, even if only to find out that it is not possible or is a feature request in the pipeline?

    Thank you very much

    Paul.

Unfortunately I do not think there is a way for UCS hang theyOption ROM for the Qlogic card.

The good news is that they can only be activated once (first time) then they will remain activated even if moved to another Blade.

The only adatper, we are able to activate the option ROM automatically is the adapter M81KR-VIC (aka Palo).

This may change in the future, but currently it is the only method.

If anyone has details on what they can comment.

  • How to change the power state in a Service profile template

I would like to change the "Power status" in a model of Service profile. While I can change almost all other aspects of the model, I don't find it in the UCS Manager GUI. Is it an unchangeable decision while creating the model? I can change it via the CLI?

    Hi Joernclausen,

What version of the firmware of your UCS?

In the CLI, try the steps below and let me know if it works.

Go into the FI CLI and perform the steps below, ensure to enter your own template_name and select appropriate type of template followed by setting the power up or down sj-ucs-r13-mon-A# scope org sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org # enter service-profile template_name initial-template sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile # power up sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile* # commit-buffer sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile # power down sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile* # commit-buffer

You may also be able to change the power state of the individual service profiles

Go to the service profile and use "Change Initial Power State" button for modifying the desired-power value.

  • Moving from V1 to V2 CPU Service profile

    Hi all!

I'm looking to introduce some B200 - M3 CPU in our field V2 servers. Would it not possible to move a service profile linked to a server with a processor of V1 to a UC V2? Or profiles will move only to love for configurations?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

One thing to note with processors of v2 is that they require a minimum firmware to work properly with UCSM.  If you do not meet this minimum need you view question where the UCSM is not able to identify the processor type and you will see errors FRU.   I think that all of the processors v2 require a minimum firmware 2.1 (3), you can check on the release below notes table 4

    Release notes 2.1 (table 4)

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/unified_computing/UCS/release/notes...

Now regarding your original question, YES it is possible to use the service of a V1 CPU profile in a V2 CPU blade.  The only thing you want to make sure is that you don't have a 'host firmware package' that degrades the firmware of the blade to an unsupported version of service profile.  If you donwgrade the firmware of a cpu v2 as the server blade will not discover until you upgrade the firmware to a supported version.

Please let me know if it helps.

  • F0169 (host name ESXi) service profile could not apply the configuration

I just created a new vNIC on 2 of my new hosts. I created the pools MAC address before you start. As I create the vNIC I got the following error:

    Your changes:

    Created VNIC FTNNIC

    Create: network fault tolerance

    Fail the Configuration of:

Profile service (ESXi host name) org-root-[(Server:sys/chassis-2/blade-8)]

    Failure reason: connection-investment

There are not enough global resources

    Not enough available vNIC

Are you sure you want to apply the changes?

I click Yes, and then get F0168 error service profile could not apply the configuration?

Can you please more information, for example

  • Delete and re-create a Service profile using the same address (HBA WWNP) WWNP pool

    Hi guys,.

I have 8 services created profiles used by esxi boot via SAN. The cause is via SAN boot is very important for me the address of WWNP HBA.

Now, I need to change the model vNIC used in these services profiles to include the option of the VM in the target.

But for this I have to delete and recreate the model vNIC.

I think that the UCS will not allow me to that I have unlink and delete the profiles of 8 services (I may be wrong)

    My question is.

After I deleted a service profile, what is the best way to ensure that new services profile will be used the same address (HBA)

used by the deleted profile service. ?

    Thanks in advance,

    My best regards,

    Hey,.

I don't know why you need to remove the 8 SPs when changes (deletion) are on the vnic/HBA model.

Address WWNP is being derived from a pool? right?

What is the order of assignment? Default or sequential

is this specific to only those 8 servers WWPN pool?

I did a quick test when I remove model HBA he doesn't remove the vHBAs configured in MS.

    Thank you

  • not able to set a service profile

    Guy

I have a service profile that has first 6 cards, 10 hba and a boot from the local disk and then cd and then lan order

When I try and attribute this to an M3 B200 or B420 (both have local disks), then I get the error "there not enough resources overall, server unavailable."

When I change the strategy of start of service policy to just boot from the cd / dvd, then I can assign it very well

If I create a new strategy of starting with the local disc etc then that also include property too

    This could be the cause?

Note: I corrected that the SP from the template, per just the separation he rebinding and then apply and it worked well - it is exepcted behavior?

    What operating system?

    Please check the interoperability matrix

    http://www.Cisco.com/Web/TechDoc/UCS/interoperability/matrix/matrix.html

to check that M81KR is still supported!

    I can't find B200-M3 and M81KR in

  • Show VLAN configured on the specific Service profile

    Hello

I've been trying to figure out how I can check what VLAN, I assigned to each profile service through CLI. I have no trouble with that view through the GUI, but there are so many clicks to check each server (10) with its NETWORK (2) cards.

Anyone know how this is possible?

And Yes, I have configured vNIC air with the VLANs mapped to them for the last two blades but I've not had the chance to change this settings on my first 10 profiles =).

    2.0(1t) running

    Thank you!

    Martin

    Martin,

Hope that this helps out you

    See the configuration | egrep-i ' enter vnic. Service-pr | ETH - if '

This shows that the VLANS configured explicitly for each vNIC under a service profile. I have not tested with the service with vNIC political profile.

Alternatively, if you are interested in service under an organization profiles

    scope org.

    See the configuration | egrep-i ' enter vnic. Service-pr | ETH - if '

  • Cannot auto close down and move the service profile to new server

When the blade material is fail service profile will move to the new server in the server pool. but before the service profile move to the new server, the administrator must approve by clicking link to downgrade in the configuration of server pool. If I tested it by click decommissioning in Server Maintennance Menu work fine but tested by disassemble Blade Server, unmount HARD drive, start button / stop does not work the service profile do not move to the new server.

I need auto service decommission and how I config it?

When a service profile move again if material blade server fails?

Unfortunately, the UCSM has no Automation like that today.

    Thank you

  • How to give the Service profile name I want?

    Hello

I wonder how I can make a model Service profiles and name them as I want.

If I'm doing 2 Service profiles and want to we will call 026-server and server-027, the only way I can solve this must make 7 profiles of named Service Server-02 as a namespace prefix, then set it to the number 7

This will make the Service profiles that I want, but I have to delete 5, because I don't need them!

Is it possible that I can do a profile Service and name it what I want?
