UEFI firmware 540MT Studio Desktop compatibility (2)

For some reason, the hyperlink, I entered my previous post has been corrupted. Here it is again:

TechNet.Microsoft.com/.../dn336946.aspx

Next time, just edit your post to make changes. Open a session and then move the mouse on the right end of the blue bar at the top of the post, you want to change, and when the arrow appears, the mouse down to change. Don't click on the arrow, because it takes you right to the top of the page.

Your system is too old to support UEFI and only supports BIOS "inherited".

  • How can I install windows7 alongside windows 8 on a pc of UEFI firmware

I've been a fan of windows8, but now I just can tolerate more. I find myself posting several times on the forum because I bought a pc brand new windows8 in June 2013. Windows8 is a cool OS but I can't take more with the problems, he gave me. I find myself punching my pc because of the anger and closing the lid really hard because I hate windows8 performance.

    First question:

My wireless lan driver is horrible. I can't download large files on my pc because my computer disconnects every 10 minutes after I connect to a wireless network.

    Second question:

My mouse sucks. I was a big presentation in my school and the next thing I knew was that my mouse had disappeared from the screen. It's really annoying because I had to reinstall the drivers, then restart the computer on a projection screen. This happens often and it is one of the reasons why I want windows7 on a partition.

    Third question:

Most of my keys on the keyboard still stop sometimes. Most of the letters or homework, I type on my laptop must be checked several times before submitting it.

I tried to install windows7 on my pc on a different partition, but it simply doesn't. I know that its to cause of UEFI firmware and I have put it in legacy mode, but my windows8 will not start when I do this. I have seen and read a lot of posts, but it doesn't seem to work. At one time I tried to install mac that wasn't a good idea.

    How can I install Windows7 alongside windows8

PS: I love windows8, but I can't use this operating system more at school because it bothers me a lot.

If you keep the computer abuse, you have nothing to use or reinstall Windows 7 on. Treat the system with the best care.

Are you sure that most of your problems with Windows 8 is not related to:

1 driver with your network card problem?

2 have you tried to connect to the Internet with a wired connection to see if the problem persists?

    3. have you checked for Mouse/touchpad update the drivers from the manufacturers Web site?

    4. it looks like the issue with the keyboard and all the problems, may be chipset related, you can also consult the manufacturer of your laptop site for driver chipset update.

    5. considering that your system was manufactured in June of 2013, it probably came with Windows 7, Windows 8 No, you would of course, was given a free upgrade to Windows 8 depending on the date of purchase.

  • UEFI firmware workstation and badly written (by me) el-torito images

    Hi all

First of all, I am aware of that option UEFI in VMware workstation cannot be supported. If you can't answer that, it's okay.

-Very well, background. I am a developer working for a backup software company and one of my main tasks at present is in charge the UEFI boot for all our rescue media. To cut a long story short, our application using imapi2 API to write an ISO image that we can then burn to a disc; Alternatively, you can just use the ISO.

It turns out that if you try to set the product using this API id, strange things happen. Specifically, when you create the entry of UEFI, you get:

    Section header entry:

The heading indicator: 0 x 91 (final Section header entry)

    PlatformId: 0xef (EFI)

    Section of the entries: 1

    "" ID ":

    Section of boot catalog entry:

    Entry is bootable

Bootable media emulation type: 1.44 MB floppy Emulation

Loading the media address: 0 (0x0000)

    System type: 0 (0x00)

    Areas of responsibility: 2880 (0x0b40)

    Support LBA: 352 (0 x 00000160)

    (the/path/to/iso-i dumpet results).

The problem here is that the entrance to the EFI is set to the emulation of 1.44 MB. It is of my (Finally, the API)-said the fault and the UEFI specification it must be set to "no emulation".

This dubious ISO does not start when fed real hardware, as the firmware there fortunately sulk technical violation and goes out to find a real volume EFI to start. However, I have noticed workstation is a little more tolerant. I can start such a dubious iso!

So my question is, workstation is simply ignore the emulation field? Or if boot failure? I actually wonder if this was the intended behavior, or if I misinterpreted the spec - this is not a critical issue.

    Thank you

    Antony

    Hi Antony again,

There is a robust statement a little more on this subject to the beginning of article 2: "UEFI support starting from the media that contain an OS UEFI charger or a UEFI System Partition defined. A defined UEFI System Partition is required by the UEFI to start from a block device. "(Probably all other media non-bloc to which she refers, containing an OS loader but no System Partition, use EFI_LOAD_FILE_PROTOCOL.)  Only a single statement is not reinforced elsewhere in the specification, throughout many places that the issue would be considered relevant.

Unfortunately, there is rather a list of already released OS for which the installation media provides the EFI bootloader in a partition described by an entry "emulation" without any input of non-emulation 0xEF... at least Fedora 11 and 12, SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and Server 10 and 11, openSuSE 11 and Asianux 3.

Then... the closest I can come to a conclusion on the issue is to say that starting from an entry "emulation" maybe not the intention of the authors of the [U] EFI specification, as you seem to have also concluded... However it seems to me be advised to support for reasons of compatibility, and it seems within reason for a software provider to implement this support.

    See you soon,.

  • Can not enter the parameters of the UEFI firmware

I bought a new 660ti for my new computer

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16883256815

When I put in and plugged the screen remained black as if one has not been connected with the 'PC' in the right corner of the screen. I took the 660ti and put in my 560ti who was from an old computer that I had before I bought 800-060 and it worked just like it did when I bought the new computer, no problem, no nothing.

People have said on different forums on how if secure startup is enabled and not inherited boot it won't work, considered most successful. But as usual with HP computers I buy, there is always something wrong with the bios and I can't find a solution anywhere.

When I fly over the right side of the screen, go to "settings - change the settings of pc - General - advanced startup - restart" and when I finally get to change the settings of the UEFI and restart again, it is just a pure black screen and nothing happens until I quit and restart it, followed by a beep code, 6 short on about 7 intervals however I could be wrong on how many times he made 6 beeps in a row. Then it starts up as usual.

I really don't want to have to take it to staples or another computer repair place, or my card back to Amazon.

    (another thing to note).

When I put the 660ti in my old computer, it doesn't have a picture, but it seemed that someone poured water everywhere inside the monitor or as a NES game that had not been blown before putting it in the console and the resolution was about 800 x 600 in the monitor. I tried to activate the onboard graphics on this subject and it bricked essentially because there is no display on it at all. but I'm not worried about it as I am my new computer.

    Thank you

Here are the specifications of your desktop HP ENVY Phoenix 800 computer - 060 According to the specification, this model comes with Windows 8 and has a BIOS with "Secure Boot" enabled and disabled ' Legacy Support'. You change all the parameters "UEFI", simply to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ACTIVATE the standby mode 'legacy' in the BIOS.

Please see "the computer does not start after the installation of a video (Windows 8) card" for the reason why your computer is not working with your new graphics card. First, remove all graphics cards after-sales market and return the graphics card to origin plant or use the onboard integrated graphics card to get into the BIOS. Once in the BIOS, you can change the settings as needed. Now, reinstall your new graphics card (be sure to connect the auxiliary PCIe power connector) and restart your computer... problem solved.

  • S5-1014 Desktop: compatibility Windows 10-How do fix my computer tested by HP?

Using the HP Wizard, the action list includes getting my PC tested by HP for compatibility with Windows.  Whenever I click the red button to do this, I get a generic response, saying that the computers manufactured before August of 2013 are not compatible.

My question is how and where to test to see if it is compatible.  My computer was made in 2011.

    Is it automatically not compatible?

    Hello

HP won't provide any support for the drivers for your PC as it was made in 2011.

    Will upgrade your PC successfully?

    He's a stranger.

I kill the installation of current operating system by trying the upgrade of winning 10 in your situation. I and have updated PC in the circumstances that exist for you. But I did the upgrade on a system operating second, cloned, SSD. I also had to restore failures Win 10 updates when the user has not taken precautions before moving on to Win 10.

Updates worked, some failed. Updates the system down was recoverable and others had to be recovered by using the factory recovery disks.

Microsoft still does not resolve failed upgrades. HP will not support your PC 2011, if the upgrade fails unless you pay them. HP doesn't support the operating system that is installed at the factory.

  • New HP desktop, Windows8, Ubuntu, UEFI and a desktop computer that is no longer start

I have a new HP desktop computer purchased just before Christmas, 2012.  Not realizing the problems with Windows8 and UEFI, I tried to load the version 12.1, Ubuntu, and now the Office does not start.

Here is the chronology of the events:

1A tried to install Ubuntu linux 12.1 with dual boot NO

2 once installed Ubuntu, the system would not start and crashes with an error message

    3. accessed in UEFI menu and security disabled for all boot devices

4 tried to start again, but the only thing on the screen is a picture of Seattle and the system will not meet any keyboard input

At this point you can power cycle this machine, everything you want, and it puts just a photo of Seattle.  I can't access BIOS UEFI, or anything like that and the machine will not respond to any keyboard input.

I did some research and it seems that this new version of the UEFI running on this desktop computer will not allow the machine to run anything other than Windows8?

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?  I don't want doesn't matter what Microsoft anything running on this PC, and want to dual-boot.  I have not the recovery disc for this desktop computer.

I think about how to solve this problem first becomes the machine to respond to keyboard entries, enter the UEFI and re - enable security this could allow me boot Windows8 still?

    Thank you!

I finally got the machine to respond to the keyboard.  I found the solution on a linux Web site

    1. turn off the machine by pulling the power cord

    2. remove the battery

    3. press and hold the Power Off button for 60 seconds

    4 replace the battery

    5. start and hold down the ESC key

BTW, I will update this thing with some notes as this can help someone else.

The machine is a brand new HP P2-1310.  It comes with Windows 8.

Try to wipe the hard drive and install linux has been in vain due to the new implementation of UEFI.  At best, I could install linux on a new partition, but the machine does never start the linux OS.  It will start only Windows8 successfully.

As near as I can tell, UEFI will prevent any OS other than Windows8 currently running on this computer.  See linux UEFI as a kind of security attack and simply prevents the machine to use.  The Open Source community works now this last attempt of MS and PC manufacturers to prevent consumers who buy a new PC to install anything other than Windows8.  Run a search on this issue and you can get more information on the latest status.

My guess is that sometime in 2013 different versions of linux Open Source will receive the digital signature required to interact with UEFI and load their OS on the new PC, or they will develop a workaround solution.  My suggestion for anyone considering buying a new PC that intends to install linux, immediately after that purchase should consider carefully what is not possible.  Right now I still can't do and I'm stuck now with Windows8.  If I had to do it again, I will not buy a new PC, but rather just go online and buy something.  After this experience I discovered used PCs with fast processors and a lot of memory can be purchased for $100 or less (craigs list), and because they are pre-UEFI, they will be easily load linux.
