Unable to add the virtual machine to inventory

Unable to add the virtual machine to inventory

Hi assane, is vmware-cmd same available on ESXi 5.0 and later versions?

To the OP:

If you use 5.0 or later ESXi, vmware-cmd will not work. Alternatively, you can use:

Vim - cmd solo/registervm /vmfs/volumes/datastore_name/VM_directory/VM_name.vmx

That said, it could be several reasons of failure regarding the registration of the VM. Can put you up a screenshot of the error / symptom you see when it breaks down?

  • Unable to add the virtual machine network services

    Hello:

I already read that warning Virtual PC 2007 is not compatible with win 7-64.
However, I read that it is "unofficially" possible launch.
OK, I installed it and it worked except networking.
Basically, I need to install the Virtual Machine Network Services.
I right click on my network card-> properties-> install-> services-> virtual machine network services (VPC2007 folder: where I can see VMNetSrv.inf)
Then says Windows: it is impossible to add the requested feature. The specified service has been marked for deletion.

The problem is that I get this error even on WinXP SP3, so I think that there is something else wrong.

And of course, Virtual PC 2007 available networks are only: no connection, Local, NAT.  (Missing my physical adapter)

    Thank you!!!

  • Unable to start the virtual machine after restoration

Guests including Test host: ESXi 5.1.0.1065491

    Vm problem: 32-bit, Server 2003

I use Veeam Backup & Restore 6.5 to back up my vm.  I always do a test restore to ensure that my backups are good.  I'm having a problem with a restore.  The 32-bit Server 2003 vm starts just fine on the main host it runs on.  All the vm are 64-bit except for one who is a 32-bit Server 2003 vm.  Restoring the machine virtual and implemented on a host except the 32-Bit vm Server 2003 test.  After restoration and trying power to the top, I get the following error:

Unable to start the virtual machine.

Turn on VPCM module has failed.

Viewed performance counters require version 3 or greater of architectural performance monitoring.

Anyone know if there is a fix for this problem?

    TIA,

    Mux

I assume you are using different hardware (CPUs, the BIOS settings) for VMS restored!

The virtual machine has VPCM enabled, which causes the problem. You can either disable it in vSphere Web Client (you can do this in the vSphere Client Windows), or directly modify the .vmx VM by setting vpmc.enable to "FALSE".

For how toggle this setting in the Web Client see allow virtual in the Web Client vSphere CPU Performance counters. If you want to edit the .vmx file manually, you need to delete/re-add the VM from the inventory or recharge (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026043)

  • Unable to start the virtual machine after Migration - ESXi hosts

Last night I wanted to move a virtual machine to a host of test to a production cluster.  All hosts (test and production) have shared access to the same LUN, so I usually am able to simply remove the virtual machines of the inventory in the test environment and add them to the production environment by accessing the .vmx on the data store file.  Two of the 3 hosts migrate perfectly and are running in the production environment.  However, the third server, while the migration starts.

First he gave me errors that it was missing some files.  The only thing I did was different to rename the folder for the virtual machine on the data store.  It was called 'New Virtual Machine' for a reason, so I renamed it to "Antivirus."  However, something strange happened.  Instead of renaming the folder, it seems was created a new folder named "Antivirus" and the old folder 'New Virtual Machine' was still there.  In addition, the renamed folder 'Antivirus' had only SOME of the files needed.  So I just copied from the old folder in the folder "Antivirus" and he hung up the virtual disk of 20 GB file.  So I closed the VI client and checked the vdmk 20 GB folder and back this morning is in the folder with other files.  However, when I try to start the virtual machine, I get the "cannot access a file because it is locked" error message.

I've done some detective and I noticed that in my second datastore where was the other folder vdmk, the file was now .40kB in size.  Looks like I've lost my other vdmk folder.  What happens here?

It looks that the virtual machine was still running when you tried to change the name, so the old folder could not be renamed because of the lock. That's why a new folder has been created instead, and why your vm hung on the vmdk file until the lock has been released. Don't know what happened to the 2nd vmdk file, but the file vmware.log in virtual machine directory must have some info as to why does not start the virtual machine. If the 2nd vmdk is gone, this might be a reason.

  • Automatic deletion/removal of the virtual machine to inventory

    Hello

I need to create a clone of a virtual machine once a month on the storage separate from the original machine. Before that the time has come for the next monthly clone I have to delete the virtual machine but also to remove the inventory. I need to do without leaving the clone deleted in an orphaned State as the next clone turns out to be defective for the double.

I set up a scheduled task to clone the machine then next month a cron job to run a vmware-cmd - s unsubscribe & lt; path to vmx & gt; followed by an rm - r & lt; path to vm & gt;. It does everything I need except remove the virtual virtual machine inventory.

Did someone knows a way to remove it completely (as if to make a destroy) or cloning without adding it to the inventory (this is not really a need for us).

    Any help would be great,

    Mick

    With the command: vmware-cmd - s unregister

You will need to restart the mgmt-vmware and vmware-vpxa service in order for the front end to pick up the change.

Or you can use VC SDK.

    For VI Perl Toolkit:

    http://www/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl15/doc/vmregister.html

Perl vmregister.pl - url https://vchost/sdk/vimService - username - Word blah administrator password - transaction undo - vmname TESTVM

PowerShell (but in this example, the virtual machine is removed):

  • Unable to start the virtual machine

Recently had to reboot my computer because windows updates and accidentally shut down the system while the virtual machine is running.

After the reboot, I noticed the server was not running and cannot be started with the above error.  His runs on 10.1 workstation and I'll show you the log file.  Also deleted the .lck files but still no luck.

Restart all of the services, they seem to stop and start cutting.

    Please help thanks!

  • Unable to start the virtual machine and snapshots are missing from snapshot Manager.

    Hello

I'm new here in the VMWARE communities and I don't know if I'm posting this survey in the right place. I am currently using VMWARE Workstation 9. The issue I'm having is that I can not start my VM. The error that says:

    vm error.png

This is an overview of my settings:

    settings.png

When I try to get a snapshot I can go back, I get this snapshot Manager screen:

    snapshot.png

I checked the files on the directory of the virtual machine. The snapshot files are still there.

I tried to solve the problem by editing the configuration of virtual machine file to use another vmdk. I got an error saying something about the parent and the child are not synchronized. Sorry I don't have a screenshot of that. I also tried to make a copy of one of the other VMDK and rename it to match with the name of the missing file. That also made me anywhere I tried looking on the net but I get answers to other vmware ESXi and vSphere products. So I don't know if they apply to my current situation.

At this point, I'm hoping to recover my machine or at least be able to use snapshots. Please notify.

I think that the restoration was the best way to solve this problem. I actually checked the different files, but it looks like I missed something. In any case, create snapshots with the virtual machine in a state engine is my personal preference. It is not only to save disk space (since there is no need to preserve the current state of memory), but also provides a consistent state. As for the number of snapshots, you're always on the stop side, and if you are not having issue of performace with small changes you make you should be ok. In case there is a performance problem, you may consider to store the computer virtual on an SSD that will certainly help.

Since the Center of Documentation of VMware Workstation 10

To the premises of the virtual machines, you can take more than 100 snapshots for each linear process. For shared virtual computers and remote, you can take a maximum of 31 snapshots for each linear process.

  • Unable to start the virtual machine after failing to remove the snapshot

Recently, I tried to delete a snapshot on a Windows XP virtual machine in VMware server 2.0. After a few minutes, the operation has failed, then the GUI crashed. I was not able to manage one of my virtual machines until I rebooted the server. My other virtual machines still work fine. I can't just run the virtual machine on which I tried to remove the snapshot. This virtual machine is very important to me and I would try to get it back. Does anyone have advice? Also, I upgraded this version of VMware server 1.x to 2.x, so please let me know if this may have something to do with this problem. Thanks in advance.

An additional note. If the virtual machine starts, I suggest that you run chkdsk, just to make sure that there are no problems with the file system of the client.

  • virtual machine cannot start, because the snapshot of the virtual machine has been deleted by mistake.

virtual machine cannot start, because the snapshot of the virtual machine has been deleted by mistake.

When I start this virtual machine, it prompts: unable to find the 0001.vmdk, this disc is my shot, has been deleted by mistake.

How to restore this virtual machine.

You need help with a revival of the 000001.vmdk deleted or do you want to repair the virtual machine so that it works without the snapshot?

The last option, follow these steps:
remove the virtual machine from the inventory and edit the vmx file so that it uses the basedisk. Then add the virtual machine to inventory.

    Hello

Your problem is the same as in Linux P2V: no space is available on the device

I recommend that you use Converter 6.1, it adds automatically more space on the volume / Boot to avoid these problems.

  • Script to add the virtual computer to the inventory of different data warehouses

I need a script that will go through all available databases and add the virtual machine inside of them in inventory.

I know how to do this with:

    New-VM - VMFilePath ' [DATASTORE] vmfolder/vmname.vmx "-VMHost (Get-Cluster"NOMCLUSTER"|) Get-VMHost | Get - Random) - place (Get-folder folder_name) - RunAsync

But we have hundreds of data stores and thousands of virtual machines. I suck at writing scripts in a loop, but it looks like that's what I need. I tried using wildcards for the VMFilePath - but it does not work. Must be another way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, I fixed it. I had a host that was plundered with partial connectivity to storage. The script was repeatedly tries to connect to this host jacked up.

    I managed to work around the problem by changing "Get-VMHost | Select - first 1 "to" Get-VMHost | Get-Random.

Works fine now... as do all things Luke and Lam

  • Move the virtual machine from one host to another with shared storage

    Hello

I have a question on how to move a virtual machine from one ESX 4 host to a host ESXi 5.  These hosts have access to the same shared storage but the ESX 4 host is outside the network and host ESXi 5 is inside the network so vMotion is not an option.  They are in different groups.  I know that there must be an easy way to move this virtual machine, but for the life of me, I can't find it.  I guess I have remove the virtual machine from the external cluster but how to make the virtual machine in the internal cluster?

    Thanks in advance...

If both host access to the data store even where VM's store, just stop the virtual machine, remove inventory on ESXi 4, go to ESXi 5 vSphere vSphere, browse the data store where the VM is stored, do a right-click on the .vmx file and add to the inventory.

I formatted the hard drive hard by ssh and readded to the inventory, I tried to convert vm to work cluster... nothing to see...

    Any suggestions? Thank you

Solved! I don't know why but the import of virtual machines with 5.1u2 ESXi, heads, and sectors in *.vmdk file are reversed:

    BEFORE:

    ddb.geometry.biosHeads = "16".

    ddb.geometry.biosSectors = "255".

    DDB. Geometry.Heads = "16".

    DDB. Geometry.sectors = "255".

    AFTER:

    ddb.geometry.biosHeads = "255".

    ddb.geometry.biosSectors = "16".

    DDB. Geometry.Heads = "255".

    DDB. Geometry.sectors = "16".

Connect to a host with SSH and editing *.vmdk file with VI will be the virtual machine starts without problems!

  • Cannot specify a directory for the Virtual Machine

I'm new to ESXi naked with me.  I added some records and then to browse the data store and I added the folders in there to specify the different VM..., I have a XP Win7 folder folder, etc.  When I go to create a new Virtual Machine gives me only the choice to select a data store to store the HARD drive and not the folder structure I created in the data store.  Now I can delete the virtual machine to inventory, return to 'Browse the data store' and move the files, and then add the VMX file in the inventory, but it just seems like a pain.  Am I missing something?  Really can not be complicated to arrange your virtual machines, it can?

Yes, you cannot specify a folder when you create a virtual computer to a data store.  I guess that he has not considered to organize things at this level and honestly.  Organization is really in the 'models and virtual computers '.
