  I have the version of GTA4 PC (bought via steam) and this game like many others use the Games for Windows Live client.  The game worked fine and online (via my gamertag xbox live) for about half a year now until 2 months ago.  After you download a GFWL update for their client, I was unable to connect to my account via GFWL.  In game, just to say that my gamertag did not exist, which wasn't true because I could sign in here, xbox.com and Windows Live site.  When I tried to connect using the GFWL market he gave me the error code 800488EB authentication failed.   Virtua Tennis 4 cannot start (steam purchase) because the game cannot connect to Games for Windows live service. It turns out that Batman Arkham Asylum is unable to access the service, too. So the problem seems to be related to the service.   BTW,

  first a few times I have uninstalled, and used the Setup program provided with the game (compatibility issue window), later I ran the installation from the web site. The installer found the client already installed (but did not check the version?) and took the plunge. Only after uninstallation, the correct client has been downloaded.

  I found a post on the Games for Windows Live site that has addressed your question.  Here are the steps and the link to the original post:

  If you're running Vista, you can not uninstall all .NET Framework before 3.0.

  If you haven't already, you will need to download 3.5 SP 1 here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en

  If you are running Windows 7, it should have the most recent of the .NET Framework.

  Also, I would say that you are using the tool Mod proposed (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301) to completely remove Microsoft Games for Windows LIVE and LIVE Redistributable.

  When you have finished using the cleanup utility, check that it has been removed through programs and features.

  Restart your PC, and then re-download the newest Client of Games for Windows LIVE here: go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9640147

  Whenever I try to log in with my account to Games for Windows - LIVE, an error occurs. He said: I can not connect no problem first of all an account.   So the problem I encounter is that I can't get games purchased with the headliner "Games for Windows" to work with the software "Games for windows".  No drop-down list, no information other than a market place when I opened "Games for Windows - Live.  No ability to view videos downloaded from the software, just to go to my documents to view the downloaded content.  Installed games appear in the GAMES folder and they open and can be played.

  In particular, the game I'm playing is called "Monster Madness - battle of Suburbia".  I'd love to play and get achievements for my account xbox live and others, I love the ability to have that extends from PC to the Xbox, the other game I have is bioshock.

  All advice, instructions or ideas will be appreciated.

  I'm under 64-bit Windows 8 and we found that all games that use GFWL will not work. However, each game does something differently.

  -The games also running through Steam do not work either.

  -For a single match, GFWL does not work when the game starts so I can't save it.
  -For another game, GFWL runs, but then crashes once I try to do anything in this regard, such as sign or view my account - no error message.
  
  I looked on the forums and have tried everything my machine GFWL wiping and reinstalling, updating my drivers video and nothing seems to work!

  I have made the following recommended to others in similar situations, has passed all the recommended ports (TCP 53,80,443,3074) and UDP 53,88,3074, installed and running Windows fix it, Microsoft.Net 4.0 update, installed and run Winsockfix, disabled windows firewall (I have not installed any other protection software yet) compatible UPnP on my router, changed my static connection type and still no progress. My router is supported and I am in a country supported direct (UK). This my independent being, but I also experience certificate errors when you use Microsoft sites, which is strange as I said that the Web site of the company that developed the program that I use is dangerous. It's my totally finished in guys any help would REALLY be apreciated. Cheers.

  I can't believe ive finally resolved, hours after validation. the button on my motherboard battery had been dislodged and my date and time have been reset in 2009, whenever I stop my PC. everything is working fine now GFWL working and no more certificate errors.
