Unable to format my new drive sata hard with windows.

I bought a new (raw) sata Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Green to use as a second hard drive in my system.  I installed it fine and BIOS and windows recognizes it.  I assigned a drive letter with disk management and made the active partition.  In disk management, it shows: Disk 0 basic 1863.02 GB Online - (m :)) healthy (primary, Active Partition BRUTE))

The last thing I have to do to make this drive work is format.  What windows seems unable to do.  If I try to do a quick format within two minutes, I get the message "Windows was unable to complete the format".  And when I tried to do the complete method it seemed to do very well, after about 90 minutes, it was made, to halfway and then six hours later the bar had not progressed at all.  Which forced me to restart my computer I could do something for her again.  Before restarting, he kept saying that I didn't have permissions to do something for the reader.

Normally I think it was a bad drive, but about six months ago, I bought seagate 1.5 TB internal a drive and exactly the thing happened, I ended up sending this rear disc.  Now I start to worry, it's something else.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium x 64 with service pack 2, I have protection anti-virus and Windows updates to current day without any problem.  5 GB of ram, AMD image treatment.

Hi Calabrel,

In NVIDIA driver downloads: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us there is one ' Option 2: automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products ", click the DRIVERS of motherboards. Simply download active x NVIDIA Smart Scan Tool.

I hope I could help

    Hi Dl54,

    A. is the hard drive is detected in the BIOS?

    B. what happens when you restart the computer?

    C. you get errors?

    D. What is the exact error message that you receive?

You can check if the drive is detected in the BIOS, but will not all SATA configuration option in the BIOS.

I suggest you to download the SATA drivers on the Sony site on a flash drive and load it during the installation.

After that you start from the vista DVD, follow the instructions on the screen to install vista. You will see a screen where you choose the partition to install vista. You will find an option to load a driver on the same screen to the bottom of the left hand of the window.

Click load a driver > Browse to the location of the drivers and start installing the drivers.

  • I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp.

I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp. Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?  I would that all is the same except the size of your hard drive will be increased.

Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?

    Yes.

You use the disk cloning software.  In some cases, a new player may even be bundled with software that will do this for you.

Unless your laptop has a second drive Bay (most don't), you will also need an external hard drive enclosure.  As a general rule, these connect via the USB port, although if your laptop has a connector FireWire or eSATA you can also use these interfaces.

You must select your external enclosure based on 3 criteria: the type of connection to the laptop. the physical size of the disc (2 1/2 inches for computer laptop drives); and player interface (determined by the connection of the internal drive of your laptop). For example only (no recommendation), if you wanted an enclosure for a 2.5 IDE drive "which connects using USB 2.0, Newegg has 17 products

The (slightly) more expensive items among the software, you will need.  For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602 this particular House will work with SATA or IDE drives.

If you buy an external enclosure that doesn't include cloning software, the software may be available for free from the manufacturer of the new 320 GB drive (e.g., http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • How can I install my printer model Dell 720 on my new Dell XPS 8500 with windows 7

I have the software for my Dell 720 printer, but it will not install on my new Dell XPS 8500 with windows 7.  It works fine on my Dell Dimension 3000 with windows XP.  I would use this printer with my new system

Dell is not a Windows 7 driver for this printer.  The closest thing they have is a driver for Vista 32 bit.  So your options are to (1) Download 32-bit Vista driver and try to install in compatibility mode, (2) use XP Mode if you have the professional or Enterprise version of Windows 7 Ultimate, (3) buy another printer.

You can download the Vista 32-bit driver

  • Inspiron 1545 - hard drive replacement, new drive SATA not found 'internal hard drive not found ".

    Hi all

I'm trying to install Win7 in an Inspiron 1545 with a new SATA hard drive that has been purchased. When I insert the disc, I get "Internal hard drive not found." I checked the drive does not appear in the BIOS, I already tried to reinstall the drive several times. In addition, I tried to load the chipset drivers, drivers SATA, etc. of the Dells, the Reader site still does not appear in the installation of the OS when starting on a DVD or in the bios.

I do not think that there is a problem with the new drive, I plugged the new drive in another Dell laptop model and it recognizes the drive in the BIOS, also I can always start on the previous in this laptop without problem hard drive when I plug it in.

Is there a specific driver, etc. should I use for the drive to be recognized or have other thoughts?

It's strange - either the new HDD has a rare compatibility with your embedded controller problem (I use a 500Gbyte in my 1545 no probs)) or it is a mechanical problem. I look at the physical dimensions and compare your original hdd by the new. Watch the video (even if it's on a 1525 (similar to a 1545) and a SSD hard drive)-go to 02:20

  • Installing a hard drive SATA 2 with the first hard drive is an IDE hard drive

I have an M50 - 8187 think Centre and I see on the motherboard and in the manual that there is a 1 SATA and SATA 2 connection. I tried to plug in a SATA 2 hard drive but when I connect it using a SATA data cable, there is nothing recognizable in the BIOS.

I took a 30 GB IDE HDD and hung like a slave and the BIOS recognized immediately.

My question is, if a SATA hard drive can be used on the M50 series think Center and if so, what do I do I do get recognized in the BIOS SATA 2 controller. I've updated the BIOS with the latest version, but it did not help. I don't see where in the BIOS to enable the SATA.

Help about my problem is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Installed new hard drive on laptop with Windows 7 can install Windows XP on external hard drive and plug it into USB?

Original title: Win7 Pro + HD Ext different OS
I just installed a new hard drive in my laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Would it not be possible to install WIn XP or Win 98 + older software (Win 98 or XP) on an external hard drive, then plug it into USB, laptop, in order to run old programs of 16-32 bit?

It would be best to run Windows 98 or XP in a Virtual Machine, if you need to run older programs.

You can use a free software such as Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Player:

So I'm actually down ranking of windows 8 pro to windows 7 pro two 64. I was finally able to get the comp not recongize just load the USB. My problem is that when it does not start, I'm stuck at 'Starting windows' screen I was wondering, perhaps, that I need to format a patition first? It's a new Lenovo warranty hard drive. (Kind of funny how to send CD's for a laptop that doesn't have a cd player only) I looked in the formatting of a usb key, have had some difficulty in finding a reliable way... Thank you

    Hi davefromsb,

Windows 8 computers have a bios "UEFI" and so will come with "Secure Boot" as well as "UEFI" only start enabled. Disable secure boot if you do not have and choose start to the "legacy" methods The problem is most likely that the image of Windows 7 which has been engraved on the USB key was burned using an instead of a TPG one MBR partition scheme. I hope this helps.
