  To check the headphone jack you will need to disassemble the laptop. To help you in this task, go to the Inspiron 15 3520 manuals page and download the PDF titled "manual." It's actually the repair with instructions step by step for the replacement of parts. See the manual correctly, you must open it in Adobe Reader, not display in your browser.

I do not understand the logic you want to replace the motherboard or audio jacks.   Have you noticed that silent sound using Skype only?
  If Yes, then I would recommend checking the settings of Skype.
