Unable to schedule the disk, always set to 'never' Defragmenter in Vista

When I call the Disk Defragmenter screen still reads that my next scheduled time is 'never '.  even if I reset the calendar at a specific time, when I close and call it back up the next scheduled time is again back to 'never', what is wrong?

There are several reasons why the built-in function may not work correctly:

0. it is malware on the system. Solution: Run an anti-virus control and also a spyware check.

1. the disk is too full (you need at least 15% free space, sometimes 20%). Solution: Delete files unnecessary and programs until you have more than 20% free space.

2. the disc is damaged and must be repaired. Solution:

a.Open "My computer" and right click the drive that you want to disable frag.
b. Select 'Properties' and click on 'tools '.
c. Select "Check now" to check the drive for errors.
d. Select the two options and click on 'start '.

(This can take time and can restart the PC so that it can do the check at boot time. Be patient and let it complete).

3. Disk Defragmenter can be altered, needing a system restore to fix it. Solution:

a. start - all programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore (click here to open);
b. Select a good restore point before you start having problems with Disk Defragmenter.
c. start the restore process and let it finish. (Name the descriptive restore as "Repair of Defrag" operation).

4. There are other programs that run the Defragmenter interruption integrated. Solution:

a. close all running programs.

b. If you think there may be some programs that run in the background.

c. press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and

d. Select "start Task Manager".

e. under the 'Applications' tab, you will find a list of all running applications - you can close these by selecting "end task."

5. If still no luck, try disabling the screen saver when you run Disk Defrag (you should very well leave the system only when running the built-in defragmentation utility).

6. If still no go, try to run the defragmenter in Mode without failure. If she runs, something interferes with her and stalking interference may not be easy. Note: Some versins of Win 7 disable the ability to run the Defragmenter built-in in safe mode. If disabled, it will say when you try to start it in safe mode.

7 Disk Defragmenter may no longer be on the system or is damaged while it needs a re - install. Solution:

a. open the menu 'start '.
b. type '% Windir%\Inf' in the 'Search' box and press 'Enter '.
c. in the window that opens, find the file named "dfrg.inf.
d. right-click on "dfrg.inf" and "install". (Note: apparently the specified file is not present on some versions of Win 7 - go to step 8).

8. most of the problems will be solved by #6 above, but if not, and if your windows installation is otherwise working well, you should consider to download a free trial of a Defrag tool commercial rather than drastic measures to restore the perfect bed-s. Third-party programs are more robust and many work in the background, so you can use your PC during defragmentation.

Most third party programs offer a fully functional free trial version (better ones are for 30 days). Install one of them allows you to disable built-in and if you decide to uninstall, removal will replace the built-in function, repaired several times in the process: it's worth a try...

Here's a recent Top 10 comments side-by-side comparison of the best available defragmentation programs:

http://Disk-Defragmenter-software-review.TopTenReviews.com/

The gold medal is the only defrag of program that prevents the fragmentation (see the reiew).

Why is it good to prevent fragmentation?

Basically, it significantly increases life expectancy of your hard drive (especially since you don't have to leave the system on all night - a much 'greener' agricultural practice), not to mention it also increases the performance of the system.

Find out what the review has to say on this.

Good luck to you!

PS: If still no go, repair may involve editing the registry or repair installation of windows and possibly re - install windows itself. These aren't simple solutions. If so, indicate if they can be provided.

  • Unable to use the Disk Defragmenter tool in Windows XP

Original title: I use windows xp why used my computer open the disk defragmentation

If I try to open the disk defrag it says the file isint there.

    Hi Gabrella,

I'm glad to know that you've posted queries in Microsoft communities.

According to the description, it looks like you aren't able to open the disk defragmentation in Windows XP.

I have a couple of steps that should help you with this problem.

    Method 1:

Try the fixit and the steps mentioned in this link and check.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314848

    Method 2:

There are several reasons why the built-in defragmentation may not work correctly:

Step 1. The disk is too full (you need at least 15% free space, sometimes 20%). Solution: Delete files unnecessary and programs until you have more than 20% free space.

    Step 2.

The disc is damaged and must be repaired. Solution:

    a. open "My computer" and right-click on the drive that you want to disable frag.
    b. Select 'Properties' and click on 'tools '.
    c. Select "Check now" to check the drive for errors.
    d. Select the two options and click on 'start '.

(This can take time and can restart the PC so that it can do the check at boot time. Be patient and let it complete).

Step 3. There may be malware on the PC
Solution - run the Antivirus and Antispyware scans (can take a long time if ever made. Be patient):

Viruses can cause these problems. Scan your computer for the Microsoft Security Scanner, which allows to get rid of viruses, spyware and software malware.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expire after 10 days from the date of installation.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Step 4. If still no luck, try disabling the screen saver when you run Disk Defrag (you should very well leave the system only when running the built-in defragmentation utility).

Step 5. If still no go, try to run the defragmenter in Mode without failure. If she runs, something interferes with it in standard mode and stalking the interference may not be easy. Note: Some versions of Win 7 disable the ability to run the built defragmentation tool in safe mode. If disabled, it will say when you try to start it in safe mode.

Step 6. Disk Defragmenter is no longer on the system or is damaged while it needs a re - install. Solution: Reinstall the built-in function.

There are several ways to re - install the built-in defragmentation tool

    A:
    a. open the "Start" menu.and click run.
    b. type '% Windir%\Inf'

    c. in the window that opens, find the file named «dfrg.inf»
    d. right-click on "dfrg.inf" and "install".

    B:
    a. go into "start > run" on your computer.
    b. Type "rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132% windir%\inf\dfrg.inf" and press "Enter."
    3. click 'OK' to make the program automatically reinstall itself.

    C:
    a. go to start > all programs > Accessories > right click on command prompt > select 'run as administrator '.
    b. at the command prompt, type "regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll" and press "enter."
    c. type 'regsvr32 dfrgui.dll' and press 'Enter '. This will reinstall the missing files to Defrag.

  • My monitor times out after 10 minutes, even with all the power settings set to 'never '.

How the hell can I stop the monitor to close every 10 minutes?

Are you sure that the monitor stops and it is not the screen saver 'Black Screen '?

If you are sure that the monitor is turned off:

Have you already checked the Plan "Advanced settings" (a link on the page edit Plan settings), make sure that 'turn off the display after...' is set to 'never '. Or maybe you need to set "Adaptive screen Shutdown" OFF.

If it still does not, maybe it is a parameter of your graphics card, use the Control Panel then.

  • Problem of thumbnails (without the option "always show icons, never thumbnails")

But yesterday, I wanted to turn on again them and that's... the problem appeared: first of all, I have disabled in the policy editor options to disable cached inches and visualization (restarted PC). Then to my computer > organize > Folder Options > view but there is no wtf to "always show icons, never thumbnails" option? I tried to turn it on through advanced system settings but when I checked and applied 'show thumbnails instead of icons'... anything at all... I opened to new advanced system settings and "Show thumbnails instead of icons" is unchecked. I tried everything... restore point before optimizing, restore registry, cleaning thumbs hide with disc cleaner, etc, and I had no success. ;

    Hi fymfifa

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Forum!

    I recommend the methods are:

    Method 1:

According to the tab under organize, there is a default restore tab. This option restores the default option.

    Method 2:

Run the SFC (System File Checker) on the computer scan to fix system errors to the file on the computer.
To run a SFC scan, follow these steps:
Open an elevated command prompt. To do this,

    i. click on Start ,

II. click on all programs ,

III. click Accessories , right-click command prompt ,

IV. and then click on run as administrator.

    v. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow or continue.

VI. at the command prompt, type sfc/scannow and press to enter. Once the scan is complete, restart the computer so that the changes take effect

  • NB510 - 10 d: unable to launch the disk external multi PA3834E-1DV2

I have a new NB510 - 10 d with 1 GB of memory mounted factory and bought the Toshiba external drive cross (PA3834E-1DV2) recommended, but I can't seem to run on my computer even when connected to the 2 USB ports and current alternative.

The drive works properly when connected to my desktop computer, what should I do or add to make it work on my netbook?

    Hello

    There is no necessary requirement.
The drive is just a device plug-and-play USB 2.0 if you n t need drivers or software to operate.
As you say, the player works through desktop PC it seems that the ODD is OK.

In your case, I recommend the reader in all USB ports.
Also set the BIOS by default to ensure that it would be a good BIOS setting.

  • Unable to see the disk iOS iCloud files 9

    Hello

I use windows 10 and I put some of my files on the folder of the iCloud drive but I am unable to see my files on disc to iCloud on iPhone 5 s via newly introduced iCloud drive iOS app 9. However, I can see the same visiting iCloud online (https://www.icloud.com/).

Is this what I need to configure on my iPhone?

iPhone does not have the same ability to render, so you must use an application that matches your type of files.

You can try Google - for example I googled for Microsoft excel app, since I do not know what you need

    https://www.Google.com/webhp?SourceID=chrome-instant&ion=1&ESPV=2&IE=UTF-8#q=app % % 20will % % 20microsoft % 20excel % 20open 20that program 20files % 20 in % 20icloud % 20drive

  • Expiration date of webapps always set to never expire

When I put an expiration date of section details webapps to 30 days and save.

the expiry date is always 1-Jan-9999 when you add the article. The expiration date

no default 30 days from today.

    Why?

I'm making a few assumptions here as long as you have not given many details to work out, but the setting is for items submitted webapp front ends. It is not the effect on the introduction of the elements via the admin.

Same as the setting default secure area or the classification of the elements, it's only related to the front-end, client submitted webapp points.

    Hope that answers your question.

  • Unable to run the check disk due to having to restore the system

When you start the system, it shows that disk needs the consistency check, but then it shows that the drive can be controlled due to the recent installation so system restore first. Although, when you try to restore the system, it is said there are disk errors that should check and may need repair in which it said restart your computer for this. When the computer is retsarted, it shows that the drive needs verification but still, says system needs to restore. So I can't run a check disk or restore the system. Help, please!

    Hi mustakimahmed,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community and thanks for posting the question. Looks like you are not able to start from desktop due to errors in the disk check and not able to perform the system restore too.

    Try these methods and check:

Method 1: Run the check disk in windows recovery (winre) mode. Follow these steps:

    (a) open command prompt.

    (b) use the following procedures:

To repair errors, locate bad sectors and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume: / r, and then press ENTER.

Note: If one or more files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message is displayed: cannot run Chkdsk because the volume is in use by another process. You want to schedule this volume to check the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Note: If bad sectors are found in the hard drive, then it could try to fix this particular sector. If you have any data on that, it can get lost.

    Method 2:

If method 1 fails, because you are not able to perform the disk, or restoring the system check, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the hard drive to get help. As the drive that you are using may be corrupted.

Hope this information helps. If you have any other questions feel free to respond and we would be happy to help.

  • The disk check runs every time you start, but never completed

Original title: Check Disk computer error... Need help please

    Hello

my computer is unable to check the disk... I believe that my windows vista crashed and when I turn on my computer... it continues to try to check the disk, but it keeps going and it never ends.  Someone told me I could used a program of different control on different portable media disc such that a cd could solve this problem.

What is the way to bet to find such a program? Microsoft expects to have a disk of audit program which can be downloaded, or can you recommend something else?

Thank you very much for your time and help

    Hello

Make sure that you have the correct CD/DVD as first in the boot order in the BIOS. Do not forget
    to set again when finished.

    Check with HP support.

    -----------------------------------------

If this does not help, it looks like you have a hardware problem.

If the drive has completely failed you "might" be able to recover your data.

You can also save the data and re-install Windows 7. The hard drive can be put in another
computer as a 2nd drive (the best) or in an external USB enclosure. Either allows you to copy data
for removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives. Of course, there are professional
    recovery
services which are usually expensive - check with your local computer store and HP (one who
his own internal service and not of leeks and display a Best Buy or other stores).

Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data.

Use Ubuntu Live CD to backup files from your Windows computer dead
    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/use-Ubuntu-Live-CD-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-Windows-computer

I'm getting snapshot of the virtual machine before increasing the size of the drive with the following command

vmkfstools x < new disk size > < path of the VMDK file >

After the above command successfully. I try to open the virtual machine. I do not take up that simple...

Try the driver windows 7 for her at the link below and you will need the W7 software protect tools because I do not think the Vista software works.  Ditto for the quick launch buttons.

These drivers have been extracted from the 6910p who was the first series HP business notebook, support for windows 7 and the one that follows in the line after the nc6400 (the 14.1 "model of your screen).
