Unable to run the check disk due to having to restore the system

When you start the system, it shows that disk needs the consistency check, but then it shows that the drive can be controlled due to the recent installation so system restore first. Although, when you try to restore the system, it is said there are disk errors that should check and may need repair in which it said restart your computer for this. When the computer is retsarted, it shows that the drive needs verification but still, says system needs to restore. So I can't run a check disk or restore the system. Help, please!

Hi mustakimahmed,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community and thanks for posting the question. Looks like you are not able to start from desktop due to errors in the disk check and not able to perform the system restore too.

Try these methods and check:

Method 1: Run the check disk in windows recovery (winre) mode. Follow these steps:

(a) open command prompt.

(b) use the following procedures:

To repair errors, locate bad sectors and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume: / r, and then press ENTER.

Note: If one or more files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message is displayed: cannot run Chkdsk because the volume is in use by another process. You want to schedule this volume to check the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Note: If bad sectors are found in the hard drive, then it could try to fix this particular sector. If you have any data on that, it can get lost.

Method 2:

If method 1 fails, because you are not able to perform the disk, or restoring the system check, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the hard drive to get help. As the drive that you are using may be corrupted.

Hope this information helps. If you have any other questions feel free to respond and we would be happy to help.

    Hi Annanj,

This can happen when a temporary error occurs, it indicates that one or more authors VSS returned an error. To diagnose the problem, type the following command from an elevated command prompt:

    Vssadmin list writers

    a. Open command prompt by clicking on start prompt by typing in the start search box.

    b. right-click on command prompt and select run as administrator.

    c. type vssadmin list writers and press ENTER.

This should provide information on what writer returned the error. More details about the error must also be registered by this writer in the event log.

  • Analyze the error message and unable to run the system restore.

In an analysis of viruses with Avira, I get the following message and the scan cannot be completed; "The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x0042ff93. Click on OK to terminate the program. "It only just happened without any problems in the past. I have not loaded since the last scan and there is no problems with the pc except that I also tried to restore the system to a date before that happened however it fails.

If you have problems using the Avira antivir then I recommend to remove from the system and download the latest version I m using the same tool and have updated it today

  • I clicked "forget this site", I can cancel it by running the "System Restore" function to retrieve my story?

I clicked "forget this site" and I am looking for a way to undo it. I have heard say there is no way to retrieve the history of a particular site, once it has been deleted, but surely, it leaves some kind of record in the system? I read an article that suggested running the "System Restore" feature which gives me the option to "restore my computer to an earlier time" before that some changes have been made. Would this work?

Hello, windows system restore will not restore the file that contains the history of firefox unfortunately (it's called places.sqlite). you would need a backup of your firefox profile folder to retrieve such data.

Please also update firefox - the version that you are currently using is outdated and affected by many security vulnerabilities.

  • Computer runs continuously check disk and automatically goes into power saving mode.

2 days ago my computer was working fine, then yesterday he wanted to run the check disk at startup upward. Finished, he found no errors and proceeded to vista loading which then stated that he was going to power saving mode, the screen went black and clear screen turned yellow. Now he wants to run the check disk on every restart and ends with her past in power saving mode. I've only got 1 successful start since this all started. I tried to start in safe mode but it freezes. I also tried to boot to the last known configuration but that only prompted an another disk check and ended just as vain as other attempts. The hard drive is only a year so it should not be failing already. I don't know what I should try. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hello

    1. have you made changes on the computer recently?

    2. What is the brand and model of the computer?

    Method 1.

Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator.

The correct way to disable CHKDSK to start use the on command chkntfs /x switch in command prompt. The /x switch will exclude a verification by default startup car. If you have drive C: as your hard drive, then the command to disable chkdsk C: drive analysis would be:

    chkntfs /x c:

If you have 2 drives C and D, you can disable chkdsk with the command below

    chkntfs /x c: d:

    So go ahead and restart.

    Method 2.

    Registry warning

To do: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Here are the steps to disable checkdisk at startup.

1 - click on the 'Start' menu of Windows on the desktop and click on "Search" (Windows Vista or 7).

    2. Type "regedit" in the search box and press 'Enter' to start recording.

3 - Click on '+' in the folder 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' to develop. Click on the 'SYSTEM' folder and click on the folder "CurrentControlSet". Click on the 'Control' folder and then click on the "Session Manager" folder.

4 double click on 'BootExecute' on the right pane. You should see the default value of the key defined as autocheck autochk * (with asterisk). The asterisk (*) means that the Windows controls every drive for consistency. Add "/ K:C" at the end of the autocheck autochk * after the addition, the final value should look like this: autocheck autochk / k: C *.

5 - Click on "file" and click "Exit" to close the damper. Restart your computer. The disk check is no longer lance to the computer startup.

    Method 3.

After the checkdisk has been disabled, I suggest you to reset the power to the control panel settings and check if that helps.

  • Unable to run the original version of Combat flight simulator in Windows Vista

    Hello

I am trying to run the original 1998 version of combat flight simulator in vista. I've run it no problem in xp. The program installs OK and works OK, but does not have a joystick. I can calibrate the joystick in the program, but not actually control anything. I installed Flight Simulator 98 and had exactly the same problem. Both programs ran perfectly under xp. I realize has the latest versions will work more than likely OK, but for the moment cannot afford to replace my existing one.

    Hi Simon,.

It seems that the joystick drivers is not updated for windows Vista. Let us know if the gamepad work on other games in Windows Vista.

Try to access the link below and install the gamepad for vista drivers and install the same as an administrator.
