Unable to update region setting in Windows Media Player

original title: change region on windows media player

How can I change the region of your windows media player successfully?

I try to change it and it comes up saying "unable to update region setting. Please insert appropriate media and try again.
Help!

Hello
Look at the packaging of your DVD. DVD region is noted on the back of the housing. It comes to the region, for that you need to change your DVD drive. To do that follow these steps:
a. click 'Start', followed by 'Computer' or 'My computer', then right click on the DVD icon and select "Properties".
b. choose 'Material' and select "DVD région" tab click on the region that you want to change your computer DVD drive to, then select 'OK '.
c. Insert the DVD in your DVD drive and open Windows Media Player. The computer can now play your foreign DVD movie.

Your DVD player can change regions only five times. The fifth change becomes your permanent DVD region.

Hope this helps!

  • During an update in October 2016, Windows Media Player no longer exists

During the 10.12/16 windows update the windows media player icon is missing. The file seems to be intact, but when it is activated, it acts like it has never been used before. I am surprised that a company as large as Microsoft cannot make a feasible "record player" - of the ideas or help?

Sometimes it seems that WMP doesn't seem "reset" and need setting up again, probably as a result of an update of version WMP. Its happened to me once or twice. But just after the questions guides when you try to start it again, usually quickly gets this back.

  • Error message DVD region code in Windows Media Player on Windows 7

Original title: Windows Media Player cannot read my DVD

I'm reading a DVD that was produced by my company in Toledo Ohio. A pop-up message telling me that it cannot be read in my part of the world. As photography video and DVD recording made in Toledo, I don't understand why it won't play. More when I went to the web for help following the instructions that I was told there is no solutition for this problem. Can you help me?

    Hi johnefalk,

Try these steps and check the result.
    Step 1: Change DVD region
    a. Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press on enter to open Device Manager.
    b. double-click on CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives, click on the DVD drive that you want, and then click Properties.
    c. on the DVD region tab, make the desired changes.

Note: To configure your DVD drive to play discs from other regions, select a geographic area from the list of regions. As a general rule, you must select the region in which you reside. It is not often necessary to change the setting again.

Important: The region can change only a limited number of times. When changes remaining equals 1, and you select a new region, an alert is displayed to warn you that after this, you only will be able to play DVDs from that region. Be aware that you will not be able to change the region setting for some DVD hardware and software decoders.

Step 2: If the problem persists, run the Windows Media Player DVD Troubleshoot utility and check the result.
Open the Windows Media Player DVD Troubleshoot utility

  • Windows Update don't load/Windows Media Player does not start

On XP Home Edition SP3, the last week I not was able to get the Windows Update page to load.  There is no error message, IE8 seems to think that the loading of the page and there's code, but a blank white page in IE8. I discovered this problem after finding that Windows Media Player wouldn't start - again without error message.  I look in Task Manager, the wmplayer.exe process runs for a few seconds, then disappears.

I have run a number of analyses of malware using Avira Free edition (now uninstalled), Spybot S & D, MalwareBytes Antimalware, Windows Defender, and Microsoft Security Essentials with no result or change.

I reset IE8 to its default settings and now find that I can't choose a search engine or view other pages on the Microsoft support site, such as http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=assistance--il displays only the banner from the top on a white page. (I write this using Chrome).

Other posts on the forum about the update or Media Player starts does not seem to be on other versions of Windows, and I've not found anything about problems at a time.
