Linux serial

Greetings;

I installed Labview 2010 on Fedora 13 with NI VISA. Although I am not able to access one of my USB through LabVIEW ports. I read the article on the series communications troubleshooting under Linux. I tried to run LabVIEW and visaconf (from the command line) as a root user in case I didn't have sufficient privileges for the vxipnp and natinst directories, I (lock symbol was not on one of the directories). My ultimate goal is to connect with Duemilanove Atmega328 Arduinio Council. This question seems more appropriate for a forum LINUX as for LabVIEW. In any case, help would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, I was able to solve my problem. If it's not better than conduit it tying tape. Go to Visa's Configuration GUI, double-click ASRL1::INSTR. This will open the window from the resource editor, under binding change the way to access/dev/ttyS0 for/dev/ttyusb0/dev/ttyUSB0. Save the changes. Now, this path is fixed: you want to start LabVIEW 2010 under sudo. Once all the LabVIEW is drawn above and a VI white is ready to be written on, its time to test if changing the link path did the trick. Place in a sub VISA configure serial port VI in the digraph of block and bind the constant "ASRL1::INSTR" under the name of the resource and check whether errors have increased.

I still don't know why I can not access the ports series as a normal user I was part of all groups under system > Administration > users and groups. in any case a question need to be explored in the Fedora forum. While hoping against hope that this is a simple solution.

  • Collect the serial numbers for Linux

    For the purpose of asset management, I want to be able to account for the serial numbers for Linux servers in VCM.  I played with it a bit and this is the best I could come up with to execute a remote command that translates a file created with the serial number and then pick up with a filter of personalized information.  Is there a better way to do it? In particular, I would like to be able to jump the output of the command into a file and having to ask that. If I can get out by running the command that would be great as well.

    Hello

    It is complex and is not 'visible' to the end user.

    But, VCM can create custom information types that can be used to run a command and then to analyze the output of command directly without you need to execute commands remotely and create a file to analyze.

    It is good to stick to the solution you came up with that.

    Thank you and best regards,

  • Option named pipe to add the missing Serial Port to Linux host

    Hi all

    I try to add a serial port as a channel named for a kernel debugging

    the installer, but this option is missing (see screenshot1). There are

    However the options to add the serial port in the file/socket.

    The host is 64-bit Fedora 10 2.6.27.24 - 170.2.68.fc10.x86_64 running.

    Workstation is 6.5.2 build-156735. I found that the named pipe option is missing, regardless of the type of the guest OS.

    I had posted this last week.

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1267552

    and he said since as soon as I put in the following options in the marked .vmx file, a serial port option came (see screenshot2).

    Serial0.present = 'TRUE '.

    Serial0.filetype = 'pipe '.

    Serial0.filename = "/ tmp/com_1".

    I realized that I have a VM as the serial port server and others as a customer. So adding the option-

    Serial0.pipe.endpoint = 'server '.

    However, this option is breaking the vm configs (cannot start VM until I have delete this line).

    Please see the attached screenshot3 6.5.2 on Windows and you will see that there is a different and complete serial port setting to the research. You can easily set a virtual machine as a client/server side of the connection series on Windows.

    I would really appreciate if someone could give me some pointers as to why this difference between Linux and Windows, and how to get the type parameters for the serial ports under Linux Windows?

    My main goal for the purchase of workstation was to do kernel debugging using the serial ports, and now I'm totally paralyzed because of this. Pointers and suggestions are greatly welcome.

    Thank you very much

    HS

    no need to apologize

    Hey - if you work with functions like this - use the vmx directly - file so you can be sure that you get what you order

  • Satellite Pro L300 - questions ACPI in Linux: buggy dsdt implementation

    Hi, I have a L300 with Insyde BIOS 1.50 and I was struggling with the ACPI in Linux (like many others, the web is littered with hacks and workarounds for this laptop). After you enable the acpi kernel debugging, I noticed that some features were marked as not supported. Decompile and recompile with iasl Intel, I noticed this:

    Method (_OSC, 5, NotSerialized)
    {
    Store (Arg3, Local0)
    Multiply (Local0, 0x04, Local1)
    Name (BUF1, buffer (Local1) {})
    Store (Arg4, BUF1)
    Store (0, Local1)
    Store (zero, Local2)
    While (Local0)
    {
    Multiply (Local1, 0x04, Local2)
    CreateDWordField (BUF1, Local2, ACIP)
    If (Arg2)
    {
    If (equal (Local1, zero))
    {
    And (CAPB, 0xFFFFFFFC)
    }
    }
    On the other
    {
    }

    Increment (Local1)
    Decrement (Local0)
    }

    Return (BUF1)
    }

    Clearly, this does not meet the ACPI specification (of what is (was?) Toshiba active partner on all documents). From my understanding limited specification:

    (1) Method(_OSC... should list 4 rather than 5 args)
    (2) method (_OSC... must be serialized, because it contains a statement of name.
    2 (a) Alternatively the name (... statement could be replaced by a local variable any?)
    (3) and (CAPB, 0xFFFFFFFC) should have a result field. I looked side effects in the specifications, but none, so really this is if else block does nothing as far as I can see. That's where my understanding of the spec let me down. I don't really know what the original intent of the code, so I don't know what to do (though my best guess that is supposed to apply a bitmask for BUF1?).

    I hope someone more knowledgeable can help me solve this problem with an upgrade of the BIOS for this laptop (best) or a temporary to my DSDT solution so that I can send enough information for the Linux ACPI developers to circumvent the problems (not as good because it lets the other alternative operating systems out of the loop).

    Thank you for your time and consideration
    Phen.

    I doubt that anyone here in the forum would be able to help you.
    Here in the forum you would meet people who try to solve common issues of interest.
    Your problem seems more complex.
    Maybe you should check some special Linux why forums

    But who knows, maybe someone here with programmer and Linux knowledge can help you good luck

  • Tecra S3 on Linux: hard drive not recognized

    Hello

    I recently bought a laptop Toshiba Tecra S3 and I'm happy with it, except for one important thing: I can not install Linux on it.

    I tried with the latest versions of Fedora Core and Ubuntu, the hard drive seems to be detected, but it is not recognized at the time of installation. I guess it's a matter of (too) new chipset Serial ATA.

    You have any recommendations or do you intend to contribute to the kernel modules in Linux/order that this model could be installed on Linux?

    Also note that I remember that I had the same problem when I tried to install Windows XP from a CD (not the recovery cd): the hard drive has not been detected and the installation failed.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    I can t believe that you can not install a Windows operating system.
    You formatait once again the HARD drive? I recommend to format the HARD drive completely, then install the operating system.
    In addition, if you want to use the Windows operating system, you must use the recovery CD because this image included all the necessary drivers.

    If you want to work with the Linux operating system, I recommend using the Knoppix distribution. In this case you n t need to install anything. This Linux you can start from the DVD or CD and it works as a Linux operating system normally

  • FTDI interfacing with myRIO RT Linux

    Hi fahad80,

    1.) make sure you have installing NI VISA USB Passport on the myRIO (I realized I had not checked it in the picture)

    2.) go from MAX, right-click on the myRIO under systems remote and select "transfer files".

    Then, go to:

    usr/local/vxipnp/linux/NIvisa /.

    Open the visaconf.ini file and add the following tokens [ASRL-RSRC-ALIAS] section:

    Name3 = "ASRL4::INSTR."

    Enabled3 = 1

    Static3 = 1

    SystemName3 = "/ dev/ttyUSB0 '.

    Parity3 = 0

    StopBits3 = 10

    DataBits3 = 8

    FlowCtrl3 = 0

    NumOfResources = 4

    3.) then restart the device and use PuTTY SSH in the myRIO

    4.) then we will have to use this command in Terminal:

    chmod o + rw ttyUSB0

  • How to get the console on cRIO based on linux?

    Hi all

    I develop new things on a cRIO 9068. This cRIO runs Linux RT.

    I built a framework of cRIO app and use for several years, I use the console to debug my code and have the status of my displayed cRIO.

    I can't find a way to see the console with the 9068 when I send strings to it (see the simple example attached to this post).

    Can someone help me see that I send to the console?

    BTW: I do not want to write debugging on the serial port, only to watch channels.

    In fact, in order to obtain the result (which is for the port series, either through the exit option "monitor" that requires activation of the console series see, or the serial port as usual without configuring the console out) to be visible, the network, there is not a great, simple way to do a little more ethernet today.

    One option you have is to change how lvrt is launched to save to a file and to access this file (either from lvrt, webdav or ssh), wrote messages on the screen. It is a more down-n-dirty approach, but he could get the results you wanted.

    Change the /etc/init.d/lvrt-wrapper or/usr/local/natinst/labview/lvrt-wrapper file to channel the monitor console to a file

    (note that brackets [] denote a touch, the lines that begin with / / are notes and does not have to be entered)

    VI/location/of/lvrt-wrapper

    Go to the line that looks like 'exec. "/ lvrt.

    [i]

    Add the following code at the end of the line

    [space]>[space]/home/lvuser/lvrt.log

    [:] [w]

    The line should now look like 'exec. "/ lvrt > /home/lvuser/lvrt.log.

    Restart your target, check the contents of the file with "cat /home/lvuser/lvrt.log.

  • SMU-8431/8 RS-422 serial card sends the wrong number of bits

    I use a card series SMU-8431/8 RS-422 configuration for talking to a camera that has the speed of transmission parameters following 38400, 7 data bits, 1 stop bit, odd parity. I confirmed that the device certainly has these settings I can communicate with him using a separate Linux PC.

    When I try to use the serial port of EITHER the device does not react. Then, I connected the serial port OR on my Linux PC to see which sent the port NO. It is garbage. Nonprinting characters, control commands and the other characters are converted (for example I send the ascii character '1' and get the ascii character 'a').

    I made sure to add the terminating resistor 120 ohm NI RX + RX-lines and as mentioned in other posts on these forums, but it is only for the reception and did not solve the problem.

    I put a scope on the TX + and TX-lines from the map OR track seems reasonable that sent bits is correctly 38400 and voltage levels are correct moving between +/-3V. What I've noticed, is that the map series, NEITHER seems to be send to the 11 data bits. I expect 10-bit (1 start bit, 7 data, 1 parity, and 1 stop). I changed to 8 and then 6 bits of data and the total number sent passes to 12, then 10, respectively.

    I get the same behavior if I use Labview screws, Panel VISA for the port of MAX, or to remove the software NOR entirely and use Hyperterminal. This would seem to indicate that the problem is something in the settings of low level on the card itself.

    I tried a second SMU-8431/8 card and the same results, this isn't a fault map (may be two defective cards, I guess!).

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Ian

    Discovered it was: used a scope to view the track both the Linux PC and the serial port OR to compare. The trace OR was significantly longer than the Linux. When I measured the width of the track OR whole, it worked to have a frequency of about 33 000, or much less that the 38400 assigned him. I was getting the wrong characters every bit of data from the port because NEITHER was out of sync with the Linux PC.

    I increased the port baud rate NOR and found that setting in 45 000 made it align correctly the Linux PC and I now the communication between the two devices.

    For the record, I don't have the terminating resistor 120 ohm or the anchor line to be included in the cable series between ports OR and Linux.

    NIDAQmxBase 3.6 installs VISA and 'C' interface via. \INSTALL, reports success, seems normal.

    cannot run lsdaq, FWUpdate or anything like that on the Menu of Applications National Instruments (NI-VISA submenu, OR Trace of IO.)

    My guess is that the permissions are always watered.

    Solved and was able to update the firmware.

  • Setting of baud rate with CVI runtime for Linux

    Hello people,

    I have a problem regarding the setting of baud rate with the CVI for Linux runtime.

    I want to communicate with a device that has a USB-to-serial of FTDI chip. The driver for this device is already included in the kernel (openSUSE 11.1, 2.6.27.23 - 0.1 - default i686 kernel).

    I can use a terminal program (HTerm 0.8.1beta) to open the serial port at/dev/ttyUSB0 and can set all baudrates, the unit supports (38400, 115200, 921600) and communication works perfectly.

    Now I take the example of series of NEITHER and go under Windows. I developed to support 921600 baud, and it works very well. So I try to run this example on Linux (I've expanded in order to open/dev/ttyUSB0), but it only works for 38400 baud. If I try to put 115200 or 921600 baud, then I get error RS232-14 (invalid baud rate).

    It would be nice if there is someone who can give me a suggestion what I need to do to get the job to 921600 baud.

    Best regards

    Martin

    Hi NickB,

    the patch done!

    Thank you very much.

  • Mass - Linux - Debian Wheezy storage

    I have just connected my phone to my Debian Wheezy machine in the hope that, unlike Samsung, Sony will have Mass Storage as an option instead of MTP (Media Transfer Mode) / PTP (picture transfer protocol).

    Why is there no support for Linux / Mass Storage on Z3?

    If you have an external SD card in your phone, you can connect this MSC instead of PSG. You can set the Sub settings-> Xperia connectivity-> USB connectivity-> USB connection mode. But the phone's internal memory can be connected using the PSG. If I understand correctly, this is because MSC would require your PC to have exclusive access to the memory and the internal memory of the phone is used by applications and the OS, so it cannot be used for MSC.
