Unknown device in USB controllers
VAIO VPCEB26FX
I'll send along a screen shoot.
I have upgraded from Windows 7 to windows 8
Downtown usb falls down all the time, seems to be the unknown device.
I uninstalled an installed the Sony chipset driver, makes no difference.
Thank you
The SNY5001 usually refers to the Sony Firmware Driver , but unfortunately there is no support driver for Windows 8 for this unit on esupport.

New x120e - "Unknown device" under USB controllers
OK, so I'll try again from Firefox this time.
For the first time poster, so please, be gentle. I recently ordered and received a x120e. The first time startup in Windows, the ThinkVantage Toolbox had a yellow exclamation point. To study more, I determined that it was due to an "unknown device" listed in the Windows Device Manager under USB controllers.
I installed all the Windows updates available, and unknown device problem. When you open the device in Device Manager, the Statute indicates that "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) ». The associated driver is usbfilter.sys, and if I try to update, it tells me that my current driver file is already up-to-date.
If anyone can help with this question? I'd appreciate it - nothing worse than making a brand new machine with a hardware problem!
Thank you

Specs: Windows XP Home Edition version 2002, Service Pack 2. This is the version of XP OEM. Processor Intel pentium 4 2.00 GHz. 1.50 GB of ram.
After an unknown incident (i suspect headphones usb), my wireless USB key has ceased to be recognized as such and become everything simply an "unknown device" under "USB bus controllers. Although windows tells me there is no drivers for the device installed, the wireless pen drive is signed with the Publisher of Microsoft Windows with a version of driver 5.1.2600.0, Microsoft being the driver provider.
Compound number, the 802.11 device is listed under "Other devices" when 'show hidden devices' is selected and the variable "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" entered "environment variables", but is washed out-showing that the system thinks that the device is not currently connected to the computer. In addition, under details, it displays error code 45: the device is not connected to the computer. And it is. It's very hip. as cement and connected tape.
I plugged the wireless key USB in all the usb ports on the computer, every time with her recognized as 'unknown device' under usb controllers. I entered in the safe mode, uninstalled all the usb controllers and root usb hub drivers and let windows the respawn after reboot in order to solve the problem. No dice.
I also plugged the USB in a different desktop and it works like a charm, so the issue is not with the hardware.
Clearly there that a conflict with drivers/registry/God knows what, but I'm at a loss. Somehow, windows has taken its decision and the player associated with "unknown device" and I see no way to make the system "forget" that the USB was never connected. How can I remove the ghost driver "unknown device" manually or force windows to re-associate the key wireless USB with "other devices" (with the yellow? mark) and not this useless usb driver "unknown device"?
Thanks for the help!

Device Manager Catagory says "Unknown" instead of "USB controllers"
I have this in my device manager - all my USB devices work OK.
More I-
It's my network page, but my network connection works OK.
How can I fix it?
Dean
Hi Dean,
I understand that your USB drives and internet connection works properly but it does not appear correctly in the Device Manager page and the network as appropriate.
This problem could occur if the drivers were not properly installed or was unable to configure. As a Reader USB usually works if the default driver/generic drivers are present in the system. But as you rightly mentioned that gets listed under USB controllers.
To better understand the issue, please send us the following information:
- What is the brand and model of the computer?
- When this problem started?
- You did it all changes to the computer before this problem?
I suggest you follow these steps and see if it works:
Run the System File Checker
File system check to determine if the problems you encounter on your computer are caused by one or more system files.
You can read the following Microsoft article to repair corrupted using SFC tool files. Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
Reference: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us
Uninstall device drivers
- Press the Windows key + R
- Type devmgmt.msc
- Right-click on each device that is listed under the category unknown
- Uninstall each device and restart the computer
After reboot, Windows will automatically install the device driver, and you should see the device listed in the appropriate category.
Hope this helps, get back to us if you need further assistance for Windows.

My webcam and everything was working fine last night. I even used my webcam on the new yahoo I had installed a few days before. When I got up this morning and turned on my laptop, I kept getting pop ups every 3 minutes indicating unrecognized USB device despite not having that whatever it is plugged. I check the Device Manager and see an unknown device and the lack of imaging devices. When I try to go in youcam, it tells me that the cam is not detected.
My notebook is HP G60-630US Notebook PC, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.
There is no change made last night. Even if after all this I tried to delete all the usb and restart, but nothing has worked. I always get the frequent pop ups. Please any help would be appreciated.
Update: I just ran the update BIOS and instead of an unknown device, it says USB composite device
Thanks, I tried. He has not worked for me. I just restored to factory settings, and that solved.

Unknown device under USB on my laptop Satellite L500-1XZ
Hello
I'm new on this forum, but not new to the use of Toshiba products.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I started having problems with
My USB ports in the sense that they all started to die one by one: first
the upper right corner, then the bottom to be followed soon after by the Sata/USB combo
port on the left (kept my adapter mouse there).I have not used anything other than the regular on my USB ports, you know memory
sticks, HARD drive external (I used a Toshiba StoreArt 1 TB), my mouse and just about it.
Naturally I started looking for a solution to my problem and tried everything, except
for an update of the BIOS.I don't know what else to do, so I hope that smbd after dealing with the same problem
can help me to restore my USB ports feature.I'll post some screenshots:

http://i1099.Photobucket.com/albums/g387/florin_77/SysInfo.jpgHello and welcome to Toshiba support forum.
On this virtual path, it is not easy to tell what the problem is here and give you an accurate diagnosis. In my opinion BIOS update is, for now, is not necessary.
I put t know if you have installed some software additions for use with an external device but you can try now is to reinstall the chipset driver.I checked the Toshiba download page and your laptop is supported for Win7 32 and 64 bit so you can find it there. I wanted to post the link here, but I put t know what version are you using.
Please, do it in a first time and post comments.

Problems Toshiba Ex - 320 GB HD usb 2.0 + unknown device.
Windows XP pro Sp2
AMD athlon 64 3500
2gig ram
200 GB WD HD Sata
PCi-E 6800 GT MSI
ASUS A8V-E Deluxe MoboWhen I tried this out of the box, it worked fine, I can transfer files and everything, problem was that it would connect to usb 1.0. So I checked the bios the usb options have been enabled, I unplugged all the usb cables, I tried different usb, always usb ports 1 only. Ive tried to reinstall the drivers for the mobo cd and the official site. Still connected in usb 1.
So I re installed Service pack 2, since then windows guard see the HD as unknown device now, and I can't access the HD. So yah SP2 makes things worse. I thought a restoration system, but since January 1, my previous save points seems to have disappeared.
I can't find any drivers associated with this product on this site... Its a Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 external hard drive.
Ive also tried going into win xp in safe mode, remove all controllers and usb devices, restart in normal mode, wait 5 minutes for the reconstruction of the database, then plugged back in the ex - HD, said peripheral unknown. Ive tried to update driveer with windows looking for me and myself to the research in the win xp cd and the file I386 etc..Hmm help?
I intend to format my HD in a few days anyway, but I'd like get this working before cela ex - HD.

In my opinion, you will be very happy if someone has experience with the same question as yours because I noticed that on this forum there are a few discussions on laptop and different problems.
Have you tried to uninstall SP2?
