Hello malaglinskom,
In addition to what Azam offered, you may try the following:
If you are running Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate version, install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx) and run your software in Windows XP.
If you run Windows 7 Home Premium, try VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) or VMware Player (www.vmware.com), or any other software virtualization part 3rd and install a separate copy of Windows XP (family or professional edition) for this purpose. You can find the virtualization software free that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.
Hope this information helps.

Original title: program compatibility Application Applications App Apps game games Legacy Crash crashes Hang hangs
I get this message when you try to run an old MS-DOS - based program in Win-7 Ultimate 64-bit.
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using. Check your computer system information to see whether you need a x 86 (32 bit) or x 64 (64-bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher. »
I understand that I am under a 64 bit OS, but is it possible to get this program to run? I was wondering if anyone has tips :)
Hi Bcopeland,
Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.
Based on the information, you are trying to install and use an old ms - dos program based in Windows-7 Ultimate 64-bit.
The problem is a software that was created for Windows 95, 98, and Windows XP has no way to work correctly with an operating system that didn't even exist when the software was written. However, the error message you get normally means that you have a 32-bit software that you are trying to install on a 64-bit system.
You can check the compatibility of the program with Windows 7, in the Compatibility Center.
If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
a. click right on the program.
b. click Properties.
c. click on the tab compatibility.
d. Select run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or whatever to use the system, the program was executed successfully.
Here is an article that gives you more information on this:
Make older programs in this version of Windows
If the problem persists, you can get in touch with the software vendor to see for the latest version of the program to use the same system of 64-bit Windows 7.
Hope the helps of information.
If you need assistance in the future to resolve any issues related to Windows, post your query and we will be happy to help you.

Hello
1. which edition of Windows are you using? Is - this edition is 32-bit or 64-bit?Given that the game is compatible with Windows 7, I suspect that the conflict can be 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. The link below shows the compatibility of this game with Windows 7.Method 1.We must ensure that the edition of the game must correspond with the operating system.
If you use 64-bit in this game, you need the 64-bit Windows to install it.Method 2.
If the above information matching I you recommend to start the computer in clean condition and then try to install the game.
See the article below for instructions on how to start your computer in a clean boot state.

I used the tool to solve compatibility problems and selected these settings in the CONFIGURATION file, but nothing seems to work the error message I get is as follows:

However, the error message you get normally means that you have a 32-bit software that you are trying to install on a 64-bit system.
To find out if your computer is running 32-bit Windows or 64-bit, follow these steps:
System opened by clicking on the button start , by clicking on the Control Panel, click System.
Under system, you can view the system type. This will describe if you have 32-bit or 64-bit.You can also try compatibility mode.
If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
Use the following steps:
(1) right click on the program
2) click Properties
3) click on the Compatibility tab
(4) select run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or other operating system, the program has been run successfully.
Check out the link here: make sure to run older programs in this version of Windows

My Canon printer driver will not install on my laptop with windows 8. The laptop & printer are brand new, it has never been a printer is installed, but windows says printing applications are used & must be closed to complete the driver installation. The printer manual says it's compatible with windows 8.
Hello
You attach the printer to your computer before you tried to install the drivers of Canon?
If so, win 8 have tried to install his own...
I would say going to devices and printers and looking for a printer on the list...
Right-click on it and select REMOVE...
Pick up your printer from your computer, if it is hung and then try to run the CD to install the printer... Do not set the printer up to this as requested by the installer.
Even if it's supposed to be compatible, it still may be necessary to OPEN the CD instead of run and set the compatibility mode for Win 7 Installer... Usually, this would be a file named SETUP or INSTALL...
Right click on SETUP or INSTALL and select PROPERTIES, then the COMPATIBILITY tab at the top... In the window that opens, check the Compatibility Mode and select Win 7 from the drop-down list.
You can try it without this step first if you want and if it doesn't work, then try setting compatibility...
Be sure to REMOVE the printer from devices and printers whenever you reinstall the software...
My installations failed if I have done this with a Lexmark printer...

is not compatible with the version of windows you are using, with X 86 or X 64
My son downloaded something and now I can't use anything on my computer, I get "not compatible with the version of windows that you are using, with the X 86 or X 64... I uninstalled it but it will not go away, I tried to do a system restore, but I get the same error... ideas?
What antivirus you typed the problem started?
It seems fishy to me, it could be a virus that has been downloaded at a given time, perhaps even until this program was installed. I would try an online virus scanner. And: http://quickscan.bitdefender.com/en/ (from what I hear, it removes something fishy, so be careful!)But also: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/It should work with IE (Internet Explorer).Curiously, the ones I tried before I could not find, so I did a quick search and these look good.I forgot to ask sooner, but you can open command prompt (start > Accessories > try click right-click on command prompt, and then run as administrator)?I hope this helps!PS What version of Internet Explorer you have?
