Unwanted document accidentily stuck on the desktop.

How can I get rid of an unwanted document (file photo of a petition of Earth), I stuck accidentily on my desk.  It covers the Center 1/3 (up and down) of the office. My office is full of shortcut icons, but they show only by the document. Hope I don't have to clear my desktop to get rid of it. Thank you!

Hi ImJudy ImTech-Geek. Honestly is sounds as you have nominated the image as the desktop background. Please follow the instructions HERE. If this is not your problem, it would be useful to see a screenshot of what is your problem. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. How to take a screenshot. • How to get rid a widget that is stuck on the desktop?

As you can see, in the case of dashboard, widget highlighted is the right and the X only works on that one.

I don't know how it got stuck on the desktop, restarting does not help, and I can't get rid of it.

I've read other old threads here, but being old, old solutions do not work in El Capitan.

Someone has an idea? Thank you!

    Solved.

Went into system preferences > Mission Control > Dashboard (overlay, space, off) - OFF - overlay and then again.

The additional widget was inside the dashboard and I managed to close it with the X.

  • Simulator: stuck in the desktop view

Using the Simulator http://quirktools.com/screenfly/ I'm stuck in the desktop view:

    AA2001.BusinessCatalyst.com/index.html

Try the free available on internet like this - http://quirktools.com/screenfly/.

A bit more can be found here - http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2012/11/6-free-mobile-device-emulators-pour-essais-votre-site /.

Yes, the url of the site you mentioned is a simulator that shows only the display size not the exact workflow on the device.

You can install any emulator on your computer to check for the specific version of the topology. For the version of the phone, you can use:

http://www.mobilephoneemulator.com/ this would show similar workflow as in the version of the phone.

For Tablet, there are emulators for install.

  • Documents get stuck in the printer queue and I have to restart so that they print

often, when I try to print a document or web page, or anything, the document will get stuck in the queue for the printer.  the printer will tell me 1 post pending but nothing prints.  I have to restart my computer to print the document.

No answers so I'll try to help. I don't have a printer for many years. A practical tool, I used to use repeatedly put my printer icon on my desktop or in the taskbar. Try it! Go to Control Panel, open Printers and faxes, right click on your printer and choose Create shortcut and click Yes. Once on your desktop then drag it to the taskbar when you have a page open it will be more accessible. Open it and click on the printer and click Cancel all documents. From what I remember when the print queue of the printer is over load it won't print and clicking on cancel all documents throws to the queue. Check the menu options to set your preferences. I hope this helps!

  • Why the computer preformance decreases when documents are stored on the desktop?

you have a "document" that explains - only shortcuts to programs should go to the desktop?

    * original title - only program shortcuts should go on the Office *.

I really think that most of it comes from the icon cache and the time of Windows 95, nothing more.  The desktop icons are consuming a small amount of RAM, the question is did it really matter that much on the machines of today, and it really mattered on Windows 95 machines with enough RAM, like 32 MB or more.

You can see ancient literature of technical Toolkit for more information on the bottlenecks of memory bottlenecks and suggestions to solve them.  Since the Server 2000 Resource Kit:

    Solve a memory bottleneck

Although adding memory is an easy solution for a memory bottleneck, it shouldn't be the first option, that you agree. Try the following, more profitable alternatives before you spend money on additional memory. If you decide eventually to add memory, note that the maximum amount of memory recommended for a computer running Windows 2000 Server is 4 GB.

    • Monitor your applications and replace or correct those that a memory leak or use it inefficiently.

    • Modify your application in order to improve locality of reference. The Working Set Tuner, included in the Platform SDK, recommends an optimal organization of the code functions. For more information, see the MSDN link on the Web Resources page at http://windows.microsoft.com/windows2000/reskit/webresources .

    • Increase the size of the pagefile. Generally, the more you can do, the better. You can also have multiple paging files, but you should have several files of pagination by physical drive when the drive is not partitioned into logical drives. Volume aggregated by bands can be used. This helps to improve the rate of reading / writing to the pagefile because the work is distributed on multiple disks.

    • Check the available space on your disks. If you use a large swap file space is not available, this can produce symptoms of a memory bottleneck.

    • To conserve memory, avoid using certain display and sound effects. Who can drain memory offers animated cursors, desktop icons, wallpaper large bitmap and some screen saver programs; deleting or disabling can offer certain benefits in a limited-memory system.  Reduce the color depth and screen resolution display can also save memory, but to a lesser extent.

    • To free memory, disable services that you don't use. Stop services that you do not regularly saves memory and improves the performance of the system. However, make sure you that understand the ramifications to stop a service before do you.

    • Remove the drivers and unnecessary protocols. Similarly slow protocols use space in the pools of memory paginated and not paginated. Drivers also use memory. You can see how a driver uses the memory with the parser in Pool (Poolmon.exe).

    • Replace the 16-bit systems with 32-bit systems for better reliability and performance.

    • If you have other computers that are underutilized, move applications in memory of these computers.

Icons on the desktop MAKE use memory, but seriously, how much difference is really only at this time?  In my opinion the last word goes to the NT4 Resource Kit:

"If all else fails, add memory. After struggling with a neck memory bottlenecks and exhausting effects, you will find the best answer of the whole system is well worth the investment. »

  • Contents of My Documents to copy on the desktop

Whenever I start, all the contents of My Documents have been copied to the desktop.  I have to keep deleting the folders on the desktop, that takes forever.  How this can happen?

I just found the cause of the problem.

I ran Malwarebytes, the scanner from Microsoft - nothing.

Today, I had left the computer at night and went into account it is not when I reboot, it is once per day, without worrying.

So on a hunch, I checked in scheduled tasks and program backup, AllWay Sync and found it was updated once / day back - up My Documents on the desktop.  I have no idea how that got the value, probably a mistake.  End of the problem.

  • Muse/BusinessCatalyst: Opera mini / mobile Opera remains stuck in the desktop view

After visiting a site of muse and switch to the view of the office, Opera Mini continues to serve it even coming back from the original URL:

    1. create a site.com site with a view of mobile and office.

2 give the link to get a mobile phone on the desk.

    3. open the site with opera mini.  Charge of the mobile view.

    4. click on the link to access the desktop view.  Muse redirects to something like site.com/phone/index.html?devicelock=phone

    5. put in the URL for the original site, for example. site.com.

    6. now, when you go to the site.com, the URL resolves the site Office.  Incorrectly.

    7. try to clear the history and cache in the mini opera-> same result.

8 go to the explicit link to phone site.  Then return to the base URL site.com.  Always incorrectly resolves site Office.

It seems that Muse does not support opera mini / mobile adapted, please advise.

As a site visitor when you click on a link "Go to the site office" you are indicating any subsequent navigation of the site will be the site Office, until you link "go to the site of phone.

To return to the phone layout, put a link on your desktop site that goes to a page of phone, and then click this link in your mobile browser.

Or, Alternatively, to clear cookies (not the cover) on your mobile device to cancel the lock of the device which is defined when a link "go to the site Office" is followed.

As suggested by AirOnSkin, start in safe mode.  Then click Start | run and type msconfig.  Disable all startup items so that the computer starts correctly.  Then, you need to run (for example www.microsoft.com/security_essentials) antivirus and antimalware (www.malwarebytes.org).  Once this is done, you can try the reactivation of your startup items and activate only the ones you really need to start the computer, otherwise you will get some softness if everything works at the same time.

  • Excel file on the desktop disappeared

Toshiba laptop about 2 weeks running Vista Business. New on Vista also.

On the desktop, I have an Excel spreadsheet that I use as a time sheet that I update regularly. the last used about 2-3 days ago.

Turn on the laptop today and he disappeared. I know that I'm deleting it.

Vista is a desktop cleanup and delete this? If so is it put it somewhere?

Tried to do a system restore, but I can see only an empty place, if I go back enough.

Then the files are safe to leave on the desktop and if so why he would table disappeared?

I don't know why your file disappeared. No, this to happen usually like magic in itself. System Restore does not restore data in files. Restore your Excel from your backup file and put it in your Documents folder instead of the desktop computer. Create a shortcut on the desktop. It's one of the reasons why having the files on the desktop is a bad idea. They can be deleted by mistake or sauteed in a backup too easily. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

If you are printing over a network, and the queue is not clear after the above steps:
