Update BIOS T500 - Linux

I have three T500s of various models and I'm looking to get a couple of the BIOS a bit more up-to-date. But all downloads refer 'Windows' that one OS or another.

How all this relates to Linux?

I guess I should choose the related options of CD bootable and upgrading in this way. Right?

Hi tomliotta! You are right, you can use the bootable CD BIOS update download. It contains an .iso image that you burn it to a CD, then start with that CD to perform the BIOS update. It is independent of the operating system, i.e. does not care if you have Linux, Windows... I hope this helps!

An update would I read on some forums?

    Hi pieredel,

Probably this update will run on wine, but all BIOS updates are tested only on Windows because Toshiba doesn't support Linux. In my opinion it s too risky to do on wine and, therefore, you must install Windows.

In general the BIOS updates are unnecessary if everything is ok, because this update is a bit risky. So, don t do this update just for fun.

Do you have the same problems of overheating in Windows? If not it s a question of bases Linux and the BIOS will not help you

I did recently on my HP ProBook 450 G2 Kubuntu Linux 15.10 running.

A new version of the BIOS (01.16 Rev.A 1 December 2015) was available, but for Windows only.

What I had to do to install the BIOS under Linux:

    * Download the exe file (for example: sp74048.exe): this is an archive

    * unpack with 7zip

    * go to my laptop configuration: restart, press [ESC] >

Configuration of the BIOS F10 > MAIN > system update BIOS > BIOS update using local media

    * read the instructions:

"Place the system on a FAT32 partition no BIOS BIN file more

on the system or on a removable USB hard drive

    under the folder "Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New.

Then, add or verify that the HP Bios update utility (HpBiosUpdate.efi)

and the signature file (HpBiosUpdate.s12) are

on the same partition FAT32 under

the path to the following folder: "Hewlett-Packard\BIOSUpdate. »

    * Take a flash drive, create the folder ""Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\ " "

copy the whole folder "BIOSUpdate" since the original installation file for her

create the "New" folder and copy the bin on it (in my case "M74_0116.bin")

    * If at the end, the flash drive looks like this:

    \---Hewlett-Packard

    + - BIOS

    | \---New

    |      Mxx_xxxx. bin

    |

    \---BIOSUpdate

    all files here

    * place the flash drive in the laptop and "BIOS update using local media" hit the button [I accept] below "the system BIOS will be updated immediately.'." "

Then update the BIOS HP appears saying: the system BIOS is updated day. > writing new BIOS Image. > Veryfying new BIOS Image. > restart.

    Fact.

It is really beyond me why HP does not provide a simple archive with the appropriate directory structure and a readme file so that anyone could update the BIOS regardless of operating system.

Warning: I'm just an average Linux user. This procedure worked for me, but before use, you must consider the risks for yourself. You SHOULD know what you're doing.

  • M92p Tiny - no bootable disc after update BIOS to 9SKT59A (dual boot Linux/Win7) GPT/EFI

    Hello

I've updated my Lenovo ThinkCentre m92p tiny A1G 3237 - to the 9SKT59A of the BIOS version.
I use a SSD OCZ with GRUB2 and Win7/Linux dualboot (UEFI/GPT) without any problem.

After that the updated BIOS update it was SecureBoot activated and I couldn't start obviously GRUB2.

Then I disabled SecureBoot and changed the boot order, but when I try to include the SSD with x, it disappears from the list excluded bootable devices but do not appear in the devices included.

Now, I'm only able to boot using USB key where a grub2 is also installed. I'm sure it's a bug in the BIOS!

Can anyone else confirm or solved this probem?

    See you soon

Updated the BIOS to 9sj960usa fixed the problem for me. As I was not able to boot using CD/USB-SSD, I was able to GRUB2 boot Win7 on a USB key and has used the flash .exe file.

    Hello

Toshiba offers updates BIOS to WIN. This means that the BIOS update can be done under Windows operating system only. You can't do this if you use Linux.

Is there a reason to update BIOS? I mean, if everything is OK you must not update BIOS to the latest version.

  • Re: Need updated BIOS for my Satellite A660

I have an A660 (PSAW3A-07P00R) and can't at latest NVIDIA drivers under linux.

It has been suggested that the problem I'm having can be addressed by an update of the BIOS.
I currently have firmware BIOS 1.9 version y at - it a future update of the A660 PSAW3A-07P00R?

If Yes, where can I get it?

Last updated BIOS version are still available on the official page of support Toshiba so if you can't find probably it doesn t exist.

As far as I know Toshiba doesn't offer any kind of Linux support so all offered stuff is for Windows. All available updates of BIOS are versions of WIN so it can be started under the Windows OS and I don t know how you can do it using Linux.

  • Updated BIOS (Insyde H20) BACK - Satellite A300-24 X

    Hello

I bought the laptop Toshiba Satellite A300 - 24 X WITHOUT an operating system preinstalled.

I'm using Linux and I want to update my BIOS to version 1.8 and 1.9 through a utility BACK/FreeDOS.

The main problem is that the BIOS flash utility runs only on Windows OS.

Why Toshiba does not provide the utility flash BACK for those who have bought a laptop without Windows operating system and want to or need to upgrade the BIOS without buy/install the Windows operating system only for these purposes?

Is it possible to update my BIOS (Insyde H2O) with some flashing BACK?

    Kind regards

    Hello

You can update the BIOS by using the diskette, but you would need an update of the traditional BIOS.
But the fact is that ONLY focused on the victory of BIOS is available on the Toshiba page and it can be updated only the execution of a Windows operating system.

But as far as I know the local ASP (certified partner) in your country could update the BIOS by using a floppy disk.

So, if you need updated BIOS to day and don t have installed the Microsoft Windows operating system then you will need to contact the guys ASP.

    Good bye

  • Pavilion g6-2215sia: CARD without WIRE NOT DETECTED AFTER UPDATE BIOS

Recently I have updated my BIOS on my laptop HP Pavilion g6-2215sia think he'll adjust the hardware acceleration feature missing in my system (there is no option in my BIOS to enable virtualization technology). My BIOS version was F.12 and I've updated to F.24, but after update BIOS all my wireless functionality no longer works (including my wifi and bluetooth), and still there is no option to enable virtualization technology in my BIOS settings. On my Windows 8.1 x 64 Pro wifi and bluetooth options are grayed out so I can't turn them on or off. I tried to reinstall my bluetooth driver, but the software says that it doesn't detect any bluetooth hardware. Even when I restart and boot in all my Linux distributions installed on my system (Ubuntu, Quina and Kali Linux) and my x 86 Android, they still do not detect my wireless capability (says Ubuntu, "wifi is disabled by hardware switch").

To confirm that this was not a software problem, I has conducted an audit of start-up and tested for my wireless module and got this result, "without WIRE MODULE CHECK: NOT INSTALLED". The only way I can get my Windows operating system to recognize my wireless (wifi and bluetooth) is now by doing a hard reset, when I unplug my laptop from the power supply, remove the battery and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. When I turn on my system, then I can turn my wifi/bluetooth on my Windows. But if I restart my system the problem comes back and I can't turn on my wireless. So basically, I have to avoid questioning my system off and only Hibernate, so that whenever I turn on my laptop I can use the wireless. If I restart my system so I have to repeat the hard reset in order to use my wifi/bluetooth, which can be very annoying.

The problem is that I often use my other Linux disributions and I have to restart before starting in them so that my readers will be mounted read/write, and when I do my Linux can not detect my wireless and it's a serious pain for me because I need to use my wireless often for internet connection.

Please I really need help on how to fix this and get my wireless working normally without having to do a hard reset every time. I tried to restore my BIOS F.12 unfounded but I don't have the image file (I extensively searched the Internet to find, but does not). I've even updated again to F.26 but I still have the same problem (my current version of BIOS is F.26).

If you see no updates the BIOS in your list of drivers - where do you have the updates to the BIOS, you used?

Try here - if you do not see the list of the BIOS, use the "Edit" button to change Windows 8.1 to Windows 8:

  • Portege 3410 - how to update BIOS and install XP?

Hello, I have two questions on Portege 3410.

First: I can't update the BIOS (current usage, 1.50 there, I want to update to 1.60). Instruction does not work: I connect Teac USB into USB port, turn on the USB - FDD emulation to activate, portable switch with pressed F12, the message «Ready to update BIOS...» "appears, I touch in a hurry, but nothing happened. What's wrong?

The other: I can't install Windows XP on laptop (it does not start from USB disk or external USB DVD drive).
    How can I install Windows?

    Thank you.
    Mikhail

    Hello

Just a question: why do you want to update the BIOS? Is this really necessary?
I ask this question because this update is always somewhat risky and you might damage it ROM module
In any case, have you tried to load the default settings in the BIOS before you start the update and install XP?

You can install XP without CD. Therefore, you must copy the folder i386 on the HARD drive from another computer and the boot to the HARD drive files, I think you need a little search with Google to find a workaround for this. You should find enough! ;)

  • Don't recharge Tecra S11-119 - updated BIOS question too!

My computer is a year. It was quite well, until I noticed that he had ceased to charge the battery. After some googling I found that there could be an update of the BIOS, that I had missed. What I don't understand is why they made an exit for the PSP23E and not for the PSP20E, that make the differences that they should deserve to be updated bios different?

Does anyone of you know about BIOS versions after 1.70 which allow the laptop to boot from SD cards or removable media? And that the problems of the management of multiple USB devices?

I use P20 over two years, without any update of the BIOS. If your device works well I recommend you to leave. Boot from the SD card is not possible and update the BIOS will not allow this.
