Update error number: 0x800A0046

Page updated does not start.  Code error on the page suggests using "user persistence" in the security of the Solution Explorer.  The user persistence is enabled and has not been disabled.  Repeated attempts and reboots translates the same error code.  Need XP/2 for XP/3 upated.  Thank you

A user who contacted Ms. received these instructions which seemed to work for him:

1 log on to the computer in SafeMode as administrator (you might be able to do it without being in safe mode).
2 rename the directory called C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution Directory Windows
3 Rename the CATROOT2 folder in windows > System32 directory
4 restart and try the Windows Update.

It's my opinion that the automatic update service should be stopped before the above, then restarted when finished.

To stop the automatic update service-

Click Start, choose run.
In the run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the automatic updates service.
Click on stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

You can then try the instructions above recommended by another user who received the support of Ms.

Don't forget to start the service automatic updates when you are finished
Click Start. Choose run.
In the run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the automatic updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

Otherwise, please try again WU see the following links

I'm having a few difficulties to solve the error number: 0x800A0046. Suggested used data persistence is correct. I don't have Zone Alarm or any other device filtering uncontrolled, that could be the cause of the problem. When I try to open the Component Services/computer it close the window. I have a guest user and administrator (the Administrator Help). I have re-installed SP3 - thinking that he could fix the registry - it didn't. W. Defender is in the same stage, it cannot be updated. Here the error code 0x80070005. I tried all the suggestions recommends the site MS - not a single one worked.

    Hi TaurArian,

Followed by a few minutes: the HD was the reason for my problem. I noticed the constant term, but I thought that he's trying to solve the problem or it's indexing. In any case, when I reformatted it, she not answered for a while and then halfway on the installation of the OS crashed. After several attempts to install the OS, I have concluded that it is a failure of the HD.

Once again; Thank you for your help, I just wanted you to know that.

I have problems to download/install updates to Windows.  I tried every fix I can think of and nothing works.  This is the story of what I did.

It is a new installation of Windows XP SP2 virtual machine.  Here are the steps I've done (the first 3 are in order):

    -Install SP3 manually

    -Manually install IE8

    -Install .NET Framework 2.0

From there, I tried (in no particular order):

-Check the schedule date/time/time zone (since it is a Virtual Machine, he grabs this information from the physical machine, which is correct)

-Change the time for the wrong settings on object, and then restart the virtual machine

    Download/install the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 Update Agent

-Run the FixIt MS on this site

-Clear all settings of Internet Explorer Proxy

-Stop/start/restart the BITS and the automatic update services

-Run the FixIt MS from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us?p=1

-Add the following sites to the "Trusted Sites" zone

    -https://*.windowsupdate.Microsoft.com
    -http://download.windowsupdate.com
    -Reset all Internet Explorer settings

-After the reset Internet Explorer settings, when I return to the Windows Update site, I wonder to run the ActiveX module.  No matter if I click on "Run on this website", or "Run on all Web sites", it immediately gives me "error number: 0 x 80248015.

-J' have also made sure to restart my machine virtual if or not he asked me after each correction, just in case.

Here are all the corrections that I found through my research, and I'm starting to get frustrated.  Any help is appreciated, because I'm out of ideas.

OK, I don't know if this has helped anyone, but I just got the virtual machine to allow me to find updates.

I went to control panel-> updates automatic and clicked on the link "Windows Update Web Site" and it took me to update.microsoft.com and now he's let me install updates.

I do not think that it was important in different ways, that I tried to install the updates, but for some reason, this one worked.

Try the next Windows Update informal Agent. MS last isn't the last. Boo Ms.

Download WindowsUpdateAgent7.6.7600.256 - 257.zip to your desktop (MS does not have the latest version of Windows Update Agent. Only 7.4.7600.243 so make us with this). (The moderator Edit: or this, for those who are reluctant to download things on non-Microsoft Web sites.)

Unzip it, go to the folder and double-click RunMe - MakeInstallWindowsUpdateAgent.bat.

It will download, MS, the files needed to create the Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256/257 and then install it.
You will be left with the installer, WindowsUpdateAgent7.6.7600.256 - 257.exe. Keep or delete. Your choice.
