  I got mine to work great by forcing it to use the following printer driver:

  HP Deskjet 3822 - Gutenprint v5.2.3

  FYI, I'm using an iMac 2.8 C2D, 4 GB of RAM OS X 10.6 and a printer HP Deskjet 5150 on USB
