Update Table of contents of evil - erase my paper!

Hey smart people...

So I have this document of 50 pages of recipes that I do in CS2 (as old as the world), and I had made a table of contents at the time where I had only 10 pages or more. My styles are all set up correctly and entered into the TOC correctly, and it worked fine on page 10. Then, when I got to page 50 and returned to update, MY DOCUMENT is ALL WHITE. It's not all header entries get more, even not that he pulled back when I created it (and I have not changed styles since then or the Scriptures he shoots!) Any ideas? I'm naïve here and very sad.

Tears in eyes,

Okie dokes... then how to penetrate a document stories?

There is a free script actually by the Adi Ravid on the Exchange: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1302 # 518 that exceeds the capabilities of the sample scripts that can burst a single image or release a thread into independent stories. Will release a thread to any setting and leave things threaded on each side of the break (as well as making independent executives, if that's what you want). I just tested, and it runs in CS4 no problem (says it's for CS, CS2 & CS3).

Just extract the script from the file downloaded and put in any application or use of the scripts folder-scripts folder, and it will be available in the actions panel. Launch it by double-clicking. The easy way to find the right folder is to open the actions panel and right-click on something, and choose Reveal in Explorer/Finder.

Leaders of the tab are defined by selecting the tab stop in the definition of the style or the tab dialog box (in the case of the table of contents, you must define it in the context of the paragraph style) and by typing the characters to use for the leader in the appropriate field.

  • Update table of contents (frame) in the primary anchor text stream?

I understand that a table of contents of InDesign should sit on its own page or in a separate text frame, so it can be easily maintained and updated.

Help of InDesign said: "avoid threading the TOC to other blocks of text frame in the document. If you replace the existing table of contents, the whole story will be replaced by the update table of contents. »

Fine and understand. However, I'm working on a project where I need all the content (from the illustration of the cover of the last line) to sit in the primary sequences of the spread of master - including the table of contents.

Here's what I've tried: I open the Table of contents dialog, made all the settings and click OK. Clicking on will now create a new text frame with the table of contents, which can be changed by selecting this image by using "Update Table of contents. So far so good.

I cut this framework and then inserted as a framework anchored in the stream text main, just as I have anchor a table, image, etc.. However, after anchor this TOC frame, I can not more updated by using "update the Table of contents. It is just another framework, not recognized as the table of contents more.

Is there another way to have a 'live', table being updated content that will float in the primary text flow?

    Thank you.

Ariel, I think you should give up on e-mail responses - empty again...

    PlainMartin,

I could make this work in CS6 (and I would consider another version that allows to drag the anchored object rather than cut and paste). Now the SHIFT key and dragging the blue handle in the main story, I could anchor the table of contents, and when the text cursor was in it I could update. Make sure you anchor in a separate paragraph that uses a style that is NOT included in the table of contents, or he'll start on update.

  • Why is it I can't update a table of contents in Windows InDesign CS 5.5?

I clicked to a table in the framework of the summary, but in my menu layout, "Update table of contents" is grayed.

I "moved" my table of contents of an InDesign doc in a new doc, I created weeks ago. I can update in the old doc, but when it is copied into the new doc, the update option is no longer available.

Why can't I've updated once it is in another doc so I can use its TOC styles & layout rather than to have to redefine those all over again?

    Thank you!

  • How to change the table of contents

Awhile back, I created a table in my document and it works very well. Now I need to add a section and I completely forgot how do. If anyone can help?

Your table of contents is pulling one or more Styles (probably the stars) paragraph of the document. Add the new article he style identical to existing sections (same paragraph Styles), then update the table of contents (right click anywhere in it and choose to update Table of contents). Unless you have a few other wrinkles, that should come at the end.

  • Troubleshooting the lack of table of contents level

I'm under InDesign CS6. For some reason any my level 1 paragraph styles are not appearing in the table of contents (which looks pretty otherwise). I use Master Pages... one is the first Page of chapter. He uses the paragraph style "chapter titled new L1. I synced the book. I made sure whenever I use this Master Page that point to the same paragraph style. Each chapter is a new document. What Miss me?

    Here is the master page

    fpoc.png

    Here it is in use

    intro.png

Here is how to generate the table of contents.

    toc2.png

Of course, you must override on the page of the document (and not the master page) in order for InDesign to 'see' the content in the frame as belonging to this page (and so put it in the table of contents). For example, if your position is on page 5, you must override the image on page 5 with command + shift (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift (Windows) and clicking on the image. The dotted frame will change to a solid frame on this page. Then go to your table of contents page, select the image containing the table of contents and in the menu layout and choose Update Table of contents. You need to replace the image on each page of the document where it contains the content that you want to appear in the table of contents.

  • Generated table of contents contains errors in the sections

I'm working on a large document that was created by someone else. When I try to update the table of contents, there are a few spelling mistakes that are not in the headings in the body of the document (I corrected, but the table of contents are acting as errors are still there).

    For example:

In my paper on page 32, there is a section "Fieldbus Protocol" (he was previously misspelled, such as ' Protochasl ' and I fixed it)

It shows in the generated table of contents: 32 Fieldbus Protochasthe < < so this is to show the 'old' spelling, even though I've updated the table of contents with the page layout > Update Table of contents command.

Is there a code behind (like HTML) for InDesign text which is perceived by the TOC generator? It acts like it is looking 'old' versions of these positions.

    Thank you!

are you sure that this section of paragraph style is used to build the table of contents?

There may be some invisible paragraph style which is then used to generate a theTOC

You should check the exact name of the paragraph style that was used in your table of contents

TOC instructions are confusing, I agree.

To avoid having a table of contents to fill your cursor when you already have a table of contents, place the text in text tool in the existing table of contents, and then choose layout > Update Table of contents.

  • Update multiple tables of contents in the same doc...

    Hello

Here is the code I tried to write:

  • Table of contents faints when you try to update or regenerate in CS6

I work with InDesign CS6 on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

It is an old document, legacy. Today, I needed to remove two pages, then of course, I need to update my table of contents and the index. I had no problem with the index - it regenerates very well. The table of contents are another matter. I clicked on page layout > Table of contents of update. I received the message indicating that the content has been updated. However, what really happened was the missing TOC text! And it is actually went because I see two markers of empty paragraph where the table of contents used to be. I tried it regeneration instead of doing the update. Same result - it's gone.

I'm still pretty new in InDesign, so I don't know what I can do to fix this. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Looks like the IDS don't think that there are some paragraphs with the names of style selected for inclusion.

But I'm not a fan of direct conversion of files inherited because these kinds of things, or worse, happen quite a lot. Try this: remove the corruption of minor exporting

  • I can't get the page numbers in my table of contents to update when I update the book.

I use Framemaker 11 and I have two tables of contents in my book: one in English and French. Each table of contents to links to various documents in the same book. The reference page for each table of contents is defined and properly displays the positions 1 and 2, I said that it appears, but numbers not updated when the contents of my document files change to another page. I checked the settings of conditional text in my document files; they are correct. When I update the book, I choose to update the numbers, all the cross-references, all text inserts, OLE links, generate a Table of contents, lists, and indexes. What I am doing wrong? Thank you.

If they are not knocked down, then they are certainly not generated files. See the example in the help of FM11: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FrameMaker/11.0/Using/images/bk_hier_books.png

The 'K' is a TOC file that FM recognizes a generated file.

Because you have created your table of the contents of the French with the help of another structure of the book, you could import reference this TOC file in another file of FM (for example to create an inset text) in the main book you want. However, you need to make updates in two steps. First update the French book to revise the table of contents. Then update the main book to get the rest of the correct pages (and given that the table of french contents are imported by reference, FM always uses the most recent version).

  • Table of contents - page automatic update of numbers possible?

As a typographer, I generate the table of contents, all the time. That is, if there are significant changes to the book in the final stages of verification that paging can be shaken around. When this happens I find myself to update the table of contents by hand.

There must be a way to automate that.

I guess some kind of variable text that I place on the content page that is related to an anchor any on the page in question that just returns a number of page this anchor is located. If this page is moved the page automatically updated content. (This would have to happen in the whole of files: the issue head-on with the content on the subject is usually a different .ind file as the content of the body.)

Is there something like this in InDesign? If this isn't the case, in InDesign basis, nobody knows about a script or plugin that would do this?

    Thank you!

    -Calvin

The standard TOC requires intervention to update (layout > TOC update...). If you manually generate using cross references, it will update automatically as you work. The downside is it's more work to implement, and x - Ref is known to be unstable through several files in a book.

  • Update the table of contents (Cp7)

    Hi all

I found that when I try to uncheck the slides that I don't want to not show in the table of contents (about 190 slides in the 200 in a project) Captivate crashes with a fatal mistake and I lose any unsaved work.  I had to uncheck about 10 boxes at a time, close the table of contents and save but it is very time consuming.  Is there a way to uncheck all of the slides by default and select just those I want to appear?  Y at - it a fix for the bug fatal error?

  • Update or create a new table of contents

    Here a strange-

Attempt to create a table of contents for a catalog-57pages... I created a specific paragraph style I used to categories of label on the top of each page of the catalogue. Then, I created a table of contents using the style of paragraph worked as advertised... Well I went through an edition almost all categories on each page I want to make it a little more accurate. I clicked on "update the table of contents" and I get: "the destination you have chosen is a hidden and already used by a different hyperlink." A hidden destination cannot be shared by multiple hyperlinks... I checked ALL categories and ensured that all text fit in the frames. I've removed the table of contents and has tried to create a new one and got the same error. Really don't know what I'm missing here as it was the ONLY thing that I did edit the categories some... In addition, I don't know of any other information that I provide here to show you the whole. I thank in advance for any help, you may be able to provide!

  • Update the table of contents, errors in bookmarks

When I update my table of contenst, it creates errors in my favorites. I have a hierarchy of level three with my titles of paragraph in my table of contents. When I update the table of contents, it takes the last item in my lowest level and a level higher than it is actually.

Any ideas of what is happening and how can I fix?

OK, thanks to your last message, I began to explore the Table of contents dialog box and understood what the problem was. It had to do with the levels that I had assigned to the table of content items, which I was incompatible. Now I have the right levels assigned to the table of content items and it updated bookmarks perfectly!
