Black screen with flashing underscore concerns after removal of Rootkit

HP Envy laptop (Win 7)
Microsoft Security Essentials identified the Alureon trojan/rootkit, but could not clean after numerous attempts. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and it ran. He found and cleaned 3 threats. After completed cleaning, the laptop it will only boot to a black screen with a flashing underscore.

I can access the boot, BIOS, System Recovery menu, etc. by pressing ESC at startup. However, I can't get into safe mode.

There is an HP Recovery Manager option in the boot menu (F11) where you can access to Windows system restore, but also a few other options. I tried several restore points. Some boot worked but it is still in the black screen, other has no restore points.

Thank you

Hello

In this case I suggest you select the option 'System of valuation (restore your computer to its original factory State)' - this will reinstall Windows 7, all software drivers and original, and all of the original scores.

At the beginning of this procedure, you will have the option to backup your files (providing the files have not been corrupted)-this can be done for a connected external HDD or usb flash drives.  A full description of the backup process are under the heading "If you want to back up your personal files, follow these steps to create a back-up" on the following link.

http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01867418

Once completed, continue with the Factory Reset.

**************************************************************

Once the process is complete recovery, you'll always be able to create your 1 set of recovery on a usb flash drive media - the procedure is detailed in the HP document on the following link.

Create recovery media - Windows 7.

  • black screen with flashing related underscore

Hi my name is Joshua, I have a computer that starts, but then gets the black screen with a flashing underscore in the upper left. I check my hard drive and my ram on a separate computer and they all work and start fine. I can not even boot the recovery disc or same thing happens to a black screen with the underscore. Please help I'm a youtuber and have not been able to implement all the videos by the way in which this computer is new.

  • HP Pavilion Elite e9220y PC, black screen with blinking underscore.

Hello. I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9220y with Windows 7. I have a black screen with a flashing underscore.

I stood and went to the bathroom and came back to this (on fiance mobile atm). If I go, I can do ctrl + alt + delete and get everything except the system recovery... so I made a recovery CD.

In the recovery CD, I get the options to
    Startup Repair
    System restore
    System Image recovery

    Windows Memory Diagnostic
    Command prompt.

I have everything but my mouse, screen and keyboard connected. No CD in except for the recovery CD.

Startup Repair found nothing, so I tried to restore the system... He said it restored to an earlier date, but I get the same screen and the same options... So I tried the following steps:

Boot from the new rescue CD, select repair your computer and choose the command line. When this charge, enter the following commands and press on enter after everyone – including spaces as shown.

    Bootrec.exe

    bcdedit/export C:\BCD_Backup

    c:

    Boot CD

    BCD attrib s h - r

    Ren c:\boot\bcd BCD.old

    Bootrec /RebuildBcd

    Bootrec /fixmbr

    Bootrec /fixboot

Remove the rescue CD and try to restart now.

Above always leads to have the black screen with the underscore flashing with the same options available... I'm so lost...

If possible, I'd like to back up my files I have. I have plans on my computer that I spent working long hours and lots of family photos. BUT if this is not possible (I have not access to a second round to save the files), then I'm more than willing to start again... I want to just that my computer back... I have not even had it for three years yet.

So any help to get back on the rails would be greatly appreciated... Thank you in advance.

  • MacBook (2010) starts with black screen with flashing Apple logo

I recently got ahold of a Macbook Pro 2010 running very slow so I did a reinstall of the operating system (which was a living nightmare, Macintosh is not as easy to manage as it was at the time of PowerPC) once I got to the top and running, I decided to upgrade to the latest version of El Capitan (an update (not an upgrade I already had a version out there) once I rebooted and let the computer do its thing he began to start up normally, but after finishing the progress bar, he went to a black screen (with the screen still on) that flashed the boot from time to time Apple logo. I forced shut down the computer and start in safe mode with success (that's how I'm typing this post now).

    Thanks in advance.

When you reinstalled, did you remove any third-party system before reinstalling.

A Mac that runs in Mode without failure, but are generally not normally indicates some incompatible system changes.

Software common problems are things that are intended to clean, protect, optimize, accelerate, or otherwise maintain your Mac.

Update definition for Windows Defender - KB915597 (definition 1.63.1021.0)

Since there seems to be a fairly new computer, you should check with the seller and the support from Toshiba
for possible replacement and/or warranty repairs. Remember that do you more that they can
    It's something that you don't.

Check with Toshiba support, their books online and the drivers and their known forums

You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer or an external hard drive enclosure, then

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel
-Double click - Driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - device Manager - map - graph
then right click on the device and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)
is CTRL + ALT + DEL and the processes tab find EXPLORER.exe and END PROCESS on it.
then on the tab Applications - lower right - new task - the type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is

Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all hotfix is usually a hit or miss

  • Problem re-installing VISTA after the removal of Windows 8 Preview Release, all I get is a black screen with a message "Not found operating system"

I recently tried Win 8 on my VAIO laptop spare parts on which I ran Vista, after having previously deleted all the files and documents (I don't use often the laptop). Having concluded that Win8 will really work correctly with a touch screen (and the display size was bad as well), I uninstalled WIN 8, understand that I have to re - install Vista from my rescue disks. This I tried successfully a few months previously to make a clean reinstall. However, after removing 8 WIN via the Control Panel, I can't re - install Vista now. All I get is a black screen with a message "The operating system not found" and the rescue disks do not register. What can I do? I like Vista (although I now run Win 7 on my PC) and really want to put it back. Grateful for the advice.

Well I finally fixed it by tweaking the BOOT BIOS settings and find something along the lines of VAIO Setup. I'm afraid, I just don't remember exactly what I did, but suddenly I found and ran 'VAIO Hardware Diagnostics' gave me a heart when it announced "no error was detected on the Vaio. Then I saw there was an entry for 'VAIO Recovery Utility - Recovery Wizard' and everything started to load. Since the 2 recovery discs I had. Finally, I ran MS Office and Small Business CD-ROM and now everything is back the way that it used to be. Here I had taken more note of how I got to the well Recovery Wizard. I hope that I never have to do it again!

  • First HP screen, then a black screen with a flashing underscore

    Hello!

I bought a new graphics (Asus GeForce GT 740 PhysX CUDA 2 GB) card for my desktop PC (HP Pavilion p6-2067sc) and have a problem. When I put in the card and start the PC the HP screen sometimes maybe 20 seconds and after that it's a black screen with a line flashes in the upper left corner. Ive tried many things to fix it, but have not found ways again, I updated from the BIOS to the latest update from HP.

OK, I just found out that if I connect the vga input mother board and boot the pc, and after 5 minutes I plug the vga in the gfx card, it shows that windows started normally, and im on the desktop, I now try to install the drivers etc and see if that will fix it.

  • Black screen with blinking cursor after the passage in MSC mode

I followed the recommendation to disable startup secure in the Bios then move the UEFI Bios to the CSM. But when I go to set up what I see is a black screen with a stable cursor in it. And it doesn t go in the Bios.

    The black screen remains.
I turn off the laptop and once again now, but I still have a black screen with a cursor that is stable and that s it.

It's like that and it doesn t go to windows even go into the Bios, I can t.
    What should I do?

    Help, please...

    Hello

After the passage of the CSM and disabling secure boot UEFI mode, you will not be able to boot from the HARD disk as the installation of Windows 8 requires secure boot and the mode of the UEFI.

Now you can boot from the disc or other media bootable (USB flash key) to install the Windows 7 system.

I guess you've made these changes installed Windows 7. Right?

By the way: what model of laptop you have exactly?

  • Black screen with mouse pointer count on reboot after installing SP3

I tried to install Service Pack 3 on a PC running XP Home Edition (new installation).

Although Microsoft Update has finished installing SP3 and the computer reboots, I get the XP installation screen base with the message "Please wait...". ", which disappears after a few seconds, leaving me with a black screen with only the mouse pointer.

The mouse pointer moves then the PC broke down, well that no matter how long I leave nothing happens.

I tried to uninstall SP3 and do it again (when I Uninstall SP3, Windows starts very well) and also uninstall SP3 as well as my Antivirus and try the installation again. But whenever I'm just left whit black screen.

Try to update with the custom option.  I had problems like this before.  Usually you are missing a driver or something of this kind that makes you hang.  To update while the custom option, with the exception of SP3.  Reboot several times the installation of updates with the "Custom" option  Once all updates have been installed except SP3, you can try SP3 and see what happens.  This usually takes care of it when I have the same problem.
