Update the registry access denied problem

Hi all
I use win7 ultimate x 64 as a MSDN. English version.

This week I tried to install privateinternetaccess.com's private Internet access software.

The installation failed and it turns out that I have some sort of error message access denied on updates of the register.

I just tried to upgrade to the latest version of vmware player and I get this message:

The MSI failed "C:\users" (the msi vmware)

Could not write value for the \system\currentcontrolset\services\vmware\performance key. Check that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support team.

Since this is the second product which complained access refused to write a registry entry, I think that the problem is really that there is a problem in writing to registry entries. I'm an admins on the machine and I am the only user of the machine. I have had the machine for three years so I admined in my user name years.

I went looking for a restore point that is usually automatically created by windows update. But when I checked for restore points there is not. This seems odd. I've seen windows update tell me he was creating restore points.

What I want to do is to see if I can go back to a previous state relatively easily. But I can not find the opportunity to go back through the windows update process. Because I thought that windows update took points of restoration and protection of the disks in drive C is turned on I didn't manually restore points.

So my questions are:

Q1. Has anyone seen a problem where the ability to write registry keys is suddenly disabled for a user who is an administrator? I can't imagine just trying to install privateinternetaccess has disabled my ability to update registry keys. There must be something else that would have caused this. I also had Director of windows fails, and I could not make it work for a few months. It could be related.

Q2. If I did not restore points manually and the disk protection is enabled for the drive C and windows update has updated the operating system for years. How should I go back a month or two, through the windows update option? Is it possible to do?

Q3. If I can reinstall everything else fails. I put the MSDN DVD in the machine to run through the process of preparation for resettlement. When he asks if I want to update or install quite a new OS with none of the backup files, I said it upgraded. But in the phase of 'control' it says that the OS on the machine is newer than the operating system on the DVD (DVD win7 is 2009). So I wonder if I would have to reinstall the OS from scratch.

This has been a very annoying problem. I can't, for the life of me, find out how my ability to write to the registry is blocked as an admins. I can only imagine that there is some sort of permissions problem where something said that writing in the register should be blocked. The only thing I can imagine is that some app, perhaps privateinternetaccess has changed a few settings to block updates.

Another thing. I recently bought a small mp3 to wear while jogging. He was not able to find the update of the driver on this machine, so I tried to plug it into my laptop running win7 as well. The pilot was found immediately. It was a week ago. So this could be another symptom of this problem where the driver for an mp3 player was not found.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance if you're able to point me in the right direction on this one.

PS. I found this entry.

http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-system/access-denied-setting-owner-andor-permissions-on/71cdd66a-75Ce-4E79-BACE-89637e0dacae

So I went in regedit as admins and looked over my permissions for the local computer. I am an administrator and full permissions for the registry entries. I see that the key of vmware isn't there and this would confirm that I wasn't able to write the registry key in the installation process. So it seems quite as my user is blocked update registry entries for a reason any.

PPS. I've logged on username administrator and also tried installing vmware player and received the same message. So not even administrator has the ability to write to the registry for the moment. ?? very strange.

Best regards

Peter

If you still get the problem of the erratically during the installation with elevated privileges, I would advise you all to first uninstall any partial installation of vmware/privateinternetaccess programs using the Revo uninstall utility.  The program comes in freeware or professional and freeware is not a "paralyzed" piece of software. The software quickly and completely uninstall the software that won't leave your computer and will catch installs partial which do not arise with the traditional programs and feature, uninstall native utility Windows.

Professional and Revo Uninstaller Freeware

When your system was purified of any previous attempts installation, perform a clean boot to prevent outside process interfere with the installation process.

How to perform a clean boot for a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8

This will start Windows conventional (i.e. not safe boot) and allow you to install the software. If you restart the installation process using run as administrator , I suspect you will have success.

Solved for drive D as now but it is still not accessible. Help the Microsoft Experts kindly. By clicking on the C drive, I got "access denied."

    Hello world.

I need help. I have windows 8, 64 bit computer laptop.  This system has 3 active accounts now. Account_One that is my administrator account. I have another

"limited account" created on my machine Account_two and the third one is "Guest account" account that is enabled.

Before you lend my cell phone to a friend in Account_two login I tried to restrict access to drives C and D of this Account_two which is a limited account.

While I was doing it, I put approval for object 'Windows users' 'decline '. This object is usually the last in the list of objects on the window that appears when we sail to click with the right button on C drive > properties > Security. I realized that instead of

for Account_two I did for Windows users / which means maybe Windows/users / * which covered my admin account too and that too on the drive root C.

When I connected to my Account_one account that is an administrator account, I'm not able to access drive C and D where I put the authorization of 'decline' for all the attributes as shown above to object/Windows users.

One of the folder that was on my desktop allows me to go inside the d drive as I kept this shortcut for easy access, but there is no way to navigate from c or d ' training on domestic issues. Not just me even Windows can not access important services such as 'Restore' and many others built in utilities of windows which simply will not charge blinking message windows has no access to it!

Please help how to access drive C and D for my administrator account. I am connected to this account now, but can not access drive C or d. when I go to the Security tab in the drive C and D right click Properties I get the screen it as: you must have read allowed to view the properties of this object. Click Advanced to continue. When I click on advanced, I see the "advanced security settings for local disk (d :)), where the owner is presented as: unable to display current owner."  Exchange (Link) when I click on 'Change' I get the error message: cannot open access control editor access is denied.

So I put the Windows/user object to "deny" on the tab security for all read and writes, and I'm not able to access anything whatsoever since my administrator account.

Please let me know how to change access to 'allow' for c and D drive for the object user/Windows. From now there is no way to access this object by result cannot set permissions there.

    Help, please.

    Thank you very much.

    Problem is SOLVED!

After three days of effort I was finally able to fix this mess.  It took me three days after going through many similar positions as mine but no final answer or fix, so I kept

through the 'access denied' messages on this community and won an idea on what

had happened and what needed to be done. What I found that there are several hundred people

like me, who have faced this problem and there is no final official help file to explain how to fix

He IS but he MICROSFT official 'support chat' where they ask for $149 to connect remotely and difficulty

    the problem!

in any case, here's how I solved my problem for people who need to fix it in case it happens to you.

How the problem began; Read my original post above on top. In short, I set the security setting to refuse to

Users of Windows/under the Security tab that comes after a right click drive then properties > Security. I put it and lost access to all readers!

    How I fixed it.

Thanks to some nice people on this page of the community who have posted knowledge. A man had displayed the creation of "Administrator" "guest account of orders that I did now, I could sign out of my account and get on the 'Administrator' account with admin privileges so that I could fix it the mess on my account problem. So if you have similar problem first create the command prompt administrator account. However this only solved the problem partially as I could reverse the problem only on drive D and not on the drive C. I was able to go to security settings and set the properties 'allow' for drive D, but I was not able to read the page of security for drive C as he said I haven't read privilege he even newly created admin account.

Now if I needed the "Access denied" problem on drive C. I continued through messages of so many "access denied" here and discovered about utilities like SFC, TAKEOWN, ICACLS, but none of them worked from the command prompt I always said "access denied."

Thing was to take the mouse to the right of the screen and get this blue bar, then settings > change PC settings > General - Advanced startup-press the button -. Then he made up the blue screen, where you have the option called troubleshooting... go there and then advanced setting > look to start Windows from the command prompt. Do you have a command prompt with C:\windows\system32 on the command prompt. Here, my order was accepted both takeown and icacls. If I shot a command there: TAKEOWN /F /R C:\/a and I also tried icacls to give permissions after checking using the syntax on the command line itself. All commands ran successfully this time, but be careful what you give in the command. It's under a lien high built based on the account of Windows 8.

Takeown command executed successfully and it solved my problem. I leave the command prompt then connected to this administrator account. This time, I could go to the Security tab of the C drive and set allow it for users here. Still on some issues, I was getting no access permission, but I was asked to change it to allow me to access to and I was able to do.

For access to the C drive on the Security tab, you need to go to the 'Advanced' and change the owner too.

in any case I'm happy this is finally resolved even if I wasn't getting much help responds I used the previous positions of other threads to solve.

Since he was not an official help of WINDOWS or MICROSOFT on that page, I'm sure I did the security setting while making the methods of trial and error on my machine which may not be the right setting from the point of view of security in general, so I'll try to reset the default state machine as my problem is now solved.

So I fixed it. If you need help let me know and I'll try to help you, and I do not charge $149 or $99.  ;-)

  • Restore access to My Documents after reinstalling XP, I get the message: 'access denied '.

Original title: restore access to My Documents after reinstalling XP

Recently, I acquired a virus with which Microsoft Security Essentials could not cope.  Then one day the computer refused to start.  I wrongly assumed that my hard drive was dead, so I installed a new HD and reinstalled Windows XP.  [Actually, I first tried the upgrade to Windows 7, because program upgrade windows 7 Microsoft has already said that my computer was compatible... but Windows 7 disk says otherwise!]  Then I tried to install the HD original in an another drive Bay and discovered it still worked, but I could not boot from it.  Apparently, the virus has killed the OS (Windows XP) but my files, programs and documents are still there.  The problem is that when I try to access my old "My Documents" folder, I get the message: 'access denied '.  I believe that this is because the files are stored in a password protected user account.  I know the password, but I do not know how to access the files.

I tried to create a user account on my new HD (with the operating system Windows XP reinstalled) with the same name and the password that I used on my original (with the Windows operating system XP corrupted) HD to create all the document files.  However, opening a session with this account name and password did NOT restore my access to the My Documents folder on my original hard drive.

I'm out of ideas.  Help, please!

  • Registry access denied when I right click on a file to copy

    original title: registry access denied

I reinstalled Vista family premium, a few weeks ago and now whenever I try to open certain programs is to say (iTunes, Autocad, MS Office) I get a

    Message: registry access denied.

I also get access to the registry refused whenever I did a right click on a file to copy.

The account I'm logged as definitely is an administrator account. I changed the owner of the C: and all files on my admin account. When vista was reinstalled the installation program was initially assigned the owner as trusted Installer.

I also tried to set up another admin account and I get the same error under this account.

Is could someone please tell me what I need to change to get the stop to receive this error message. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply Rami

I had already made A step.

All my documents, etc. had my account admin as the owner of the file, but when I went in the C: and through the steps of A which was where the Trusted Installer has been listed as the owner.  I had changed it, but he did not set the message boxes to come whenever I loaded a program or trying to copy a file (the program would be the load and copies the files if I clicked ok in the Message box).

I couldn't do step C since there is no restore point to go as I wiped the drive and reinstalled Vista.

Step B - I ran and he has a message to check the log file in c: Windows/logs/cbs, that I didn't have access to read the same file with admin access.

To fix it, I finally just reinstalled vista again and this time I do not get the Message box registry errors when opening programs.  The c: once more the installer of trust as owner, but the rest of the files are under my account.  I don't ' know
What is different, but it works again without these errors of annoying message box.

    Hi Dayg,

Please check your FTP settings in Lightroom.

Are you able to connect and download using another FTP Client?

Also try the steps below: -.

    1. from the Web in Lightroom module, click export instead of loading.

    2. save the Gallery to a location that you can find easily (like your desktop).

    3. manually copy the Gallery of his location to save to your FTP server.

  • Cannot delete the folder (access denied / authorization to administrator)

Recently, after a good 6 months to give a fair chance to Windows 8, I decided to reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop. Installation went very well, no problems (it's the original operating system on this machine). When I installed 7 I didn't format my drive, and so all my files/directories have been moved to the Windows.old folder. I had already backed up everything so I tried to delete the record and was invited to give permission to the administrator. I clicked through and received the error message: you need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this file.

I know that this problem is everywhere, but before dismiss you this as a pointless post, that's what I tried (unsuccessfully) solve this problem:
    > Delete manually CMD with elevated privileges (no results, "access denied" after each item has been deleted in vain)
    > Turn off UAC (no change)
    > Delete using Shift + Delete to bypass the Recycle Bin
    > Add a DWORD value in the registry (UseSystemForSystemFolders)
    > Start in safe mode with CMD prompt, could not remove with CMD or via Explorer
    > Activate the hidden administrator account and remove using the Explorer/CMD
    > Change the folder permissions, raise my account permissions and creating a new user name or the group with my account with full access
I spent the best part of 24 hours trying to solve this problem. I would like to avoid reinstalling Windows because I had already transferred 200 GB of data on my computer before I realized it was a problem. Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

You probably accidentally "run" the file, and there is a window somewhere waiting for you to click 'OK' or something, when an exe is runing, windows do not allow you to delete it. But it should allow you to remove it if it is not not runing.

If your laptop is running properly, then update the BIOS is not really necessary...
