Updates fail initialize restart

After restarting my PC after installing the last off-cycle (IE exploit fix) updated, Windows fails to initialize updates and restores the changes.  Initialization hangs at 0% and takes a few minutes for _ out.  Any ideas?

The red pill,

    Hello Garble,

Thank you our writing about Microsoft Community.

Have you tried the steps of troubleshooting described in the Microsoft Article in the post above?

In case you have tried the steps of troubleshooting described in the article and which don't you did not help to solve the problem, you can try the steps below.

Boot from the DVD of Windows 8 by tapping the F12 key permanently at the time of the restart, select your keyboard and language options, select repair your computer, and then select command prompt.  At the prompt, run the following command:

    DISM image:c:------/ Get-Packages

This will produce a list of updates installed and packets.  They will look like this:

    The package identity: Package_for_KB978262 ~ 31bf3856ad364e35 ~ x 86 ~ ~ 6.1.1.0
    Status: installed
    Output type: security update
    Install time: 02-11-2010 13:01

Find the most recent and then make a note of the identity of the package.

    Then run:

image:c dism:------/ Remove-Package /PackageName:Package_for_KB978262~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.0 (name of the update from the previous step)

Until it is complete, you will get a status of the collection.  Then restart your PC.

You want to start with the most recent and remove them one at a time to find the update problem.

Hope the helps of information provided. We know the State of the question.

    Thank you.

  • 13.0 Firefox crashes on startup almost everytime. Thus, all of the updates fail because Firefox has to restart. What should I do?

For the past several versions of Firefox (I think 10 or 11), I had a lot of trouble to get Firefox to start. I understand not all crash IDs. It just won't start not almost everytime. Ironically, I think to be able to get to doesn't start until I opened another browser such as Internet Explorer. Then, it will start until I close it. So I have to repeat the same process (opening another browser, then try to start Firefox) every time so he could start again. Now, the problem seems to have gotten a some worst bit with version 13.0. It cannot be updated because Firefox needs to restart to update. When he tries to turn on, he can't. When I finally get Firefox to work (after opening IE), I get a notification indicating that the update failed. I saw the notice on the Web site, but does not. It drives me crazy!

You can also check your security software (firewall) because it does not yet acknowledge the new version of Firefox 13.0.1.

One possible cause is security software (firewall, antivirus) that prevents or limits Firefox or plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

  • Windows Update fails, laptop breaks down at the restart, Windows 7

I had to buy a new drive hard laptop to my Toshiba Satellite after the first one stopped working. I reinstalled Windows 7 and did all the required Windows updates. So I wonder to restart, as usual, and I do. The problem is, when it gets to the point where the laptop screen goes black, and it should restart, is not. It is just a black screen, no response to the pressing movement or the key of the mouse. I know that the laptop is still technically because that light on is still green. I let him sit there for at least an hour, but nothing happened. Then I had the power button to turn off the laptop completely, he did and he turned his back. The laptop then turns and begins to set up the Windows updates, but it fails. After that I can log into the computer, and I can see that the Windows updates fails. Now, I have done this several times and sometimes the windows updates will succeed, but every time the laptop computer fails to restart correctly, and when I turn it off and turn it back on, he always tells me that Windows updates fail to configure. The last group of Windows updates I tried to do, they all failed to do.

I just looked at the history of updates to Windows, and these are updates that failed

Each update for Windows 7 for x 64 systems.

Daily security for Windows 7 for x 64 EXCEPT KB3035126 systems.

Each Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 security update

And each update Cumulative security for Internet Explorer 11

The only consistently successful updates have been

Update definition for Microsoft Security Essentials

Updates and security for Microsoft Office updates

and x 64 Windows malicious software removal tool

  • I replaced my Windows 7 64-bit system drive and now I have the "Not genuine" message after an update failed

I have a Windows 7 64-bit system I bought a provider on the local computer for a long time with Windows installed.

I replaced my hard drives of 500 GB (mirrored RAID configuration) system with hard drives of 1 TB.

After replacing the readers, I also installed a set of Windows updates. We update failed. After you restart the computer, I ran Windows update again. It seemed that all upgrades completed.

HOWEVER, I now have the message "this computer is not running Genuine Windows". Windows Indexing is not running, send me problems in Outlook and elsewhere.

I saw discussions on the online forum on the problem "Not genuine" resulting from an update of Windows failed and resulting also to change the hard drive.

I led Activation (slui.exe 3) typed in the product key from the sticker on the computer and it activates OK but does not erase the message.

I clicked on pay online now and ran legitcheck.hta and my system has failed validation. The options are to buy or to perform a new installation of Windows.

I have a lot of programs installed on the computer, and I can't lose all configuration data and reinstall all programs. That would take several days and I would not have a system can be used in the meantime.

I ran the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (1.9.0027.0) and have these results below.

There are a lot of files file mismatches and "tampered with". I believe that this is due to the update has failed.

I thought to manually rerun all updates that goes back to the date when first I struggled (about a month). However, I wasn't sure if this solves the problem or make worse it.

You can leave the data below what actions I need to take the next?

I am a independent and use this computer to work. I have backups of my data files, but it is many installed applications that I can't do without.

KB2887069 Windows update fails to install, even with the audio drivers and uninstalled AV.

Background: I am setting up a pavilion of 500-164 equipped with OEM specs, specifically:

    -AMD/Radeon APU

    -Windows 8 6.2.9200

-See sysinfo below for more details

The PC brought to the specifications of the plant, with all Windows updates applied with the exception of KB2887069, which breaks down at the update.  With the exception of troubleshooting the failure of the update, none of the changes have been made.  The Windows KB2887069 update fails to install as well through the automated process when tried manually via a direct download.

Additional troubleshooting measures to date include:

-Uninstall the software OEM AV (Norton), then by restarting.

-Temporarily disable all the features of Windows Defender.

-Temporarily uninstall the audio driver (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) OEM.

-Realization of an analysis of the SFC system (with no error found).

I find it peculiar that you just bought a HP computer brand new, still-in-the-box, which came with Windows 8, not 8.1, preinstalled Windows. That said, cross your fingers, roll up your sleeves and try the fix following multiple step, I cooked up just for your computer...

    ACTIONS

[You may want to print these instructions for reference offline.  IMPORTANT => NO SKIP & perform all steps in one uninterrupted session!  [If a step said to restart, restart! ]

1 right-click on the link, select SAVE TARGET as.... & download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above and select run as administrator to run the Norton utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. right-click on the following link and save the download to your desktop: ie8 - rereg.all.zip [1]

4B. right click on the file that you saved in # 4 has & select EXTRACT ALL. This will create a new folder in Office also appointed ie8 - rereg.all. The folder contains both scripts below (plus a third that will NOT be).

    Note-online scripts are good for IE9, IE10 & IE11, too,

    5. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the task bar), open the folder created in step # 4 b above & double-click on the file named ie8 - rereg.32on64.cmd to run the script.

5 b. Repeat this for the file named ie8 - rereg.64on64.cmd then restart.

    6. reset Internet Explorer by the MANUAL of instructions on this page-online http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

Note => for best results, check the option Remove personal settings .

7 run the Windows Update Troubleshooter from start to finish by the first paragraph on this page-online http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates [2]

    8. restart once more then test by launching a manual check of updates & see if KB2887069 any/all others updated and allows to install now. Follow all the instructions.

    9. assuming all went well, see if Windows 8.1 is available through the store Windows and, if so, if it will be properly installed. Still, follow all the instructions.

I connected my iPhone 6 (he was stuck in endless loop Recovery Mode with closed force) to iTunes and tried to update to iOS 10. After about 20 minutes, the update failed. Now my phone is frozen on the Logo screen with the loading of updated under him bar. Force restart it brings back me to the screen in recovery mode.

  • Firefox 31 update fails

There is nothing different, but FF started again and the update succeeded. This is after more than a dozen attempts.

Automatic update fails, but gives no reason. Tried a manual update (Firefox Setup 31.0.exe) and it does not work? I tried running in administrator mode and nothing seems to happen (?) ...

When I click on '?' (help) / about and the updated... application message continues to turn and run for a LONG time, and then prompt to restart. I do, and you receive error message that the partial update cannot be applied... He will try an update complete. It loads and executes the full update and then displays a message "update Application" without end. After several minutes of nothing happens, I x'd out and I'm still on exit 30, with the message to reboot again.

    Running Windows 8.1

To date, Firefox continues to the failure of the upgrade to version 31. I'll try to manually disable all my Add-ons and see if that helps. Well, it did work.

Tried running FF in "safe mode"... It also did not work.

I noticed that when asked to "restart FF", the tabs looked a little weird... square is the only way to describe it. The upper right minimize output window icons were also "cut in half". Very weird.

Another problem. In my download directory, I have now three executable files that I can NOT REMOVE. Says they are in use by another program. Looked at the running processes to all and do not plant anything that it is focused on running FF. Tried rebooting the PC did not run FF and still cannot delete
    The installer of Firefox 31.0.exe
    Firefox Setup Stub 31.0.exe
Firefox_Setup_31.0.exe (this installer downloaded from cnet).

From now I use Chrome since I don't know what is happening with FF. I'll check back every day to see if there is a solution. I have not tried to uninstall FF and then re - install. I understand that I should be able to save all my settings, so I could try in a week if I don't see a solution.

Do not know how to 'close' my problem, so I answer to myself. Updated at 31 and next. Don't know why, but my problem was apparently solved.

  • Software update failed

We have a server terminal server (RDS) on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. There are about 20 + users and almost everyone uses Firefox as their default browser. Version 18.0.2. When I run updates of FF, I do once logged as administrator when nobody else is logged on. However, for some reason, a couple users receive the message failed update of generic software when you start Firefox. If you click ok, FF starts anyway, and when you check the version, it actually tells 18.0.2 but prompts the user to restart to apply the update, which fails again. How can I erase this update check or instances of Firefox to realize that it IS up to date? This is the first time I saw this question, we use Firefox on this server for years. Help, please. I already read this article, nothing helped:

  • Satellite L300 - driver Open Webcam fail. Restart the computer or the camera

    Hello

I recently bought a new Satellite L300 under Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. The Webcam worked fine for a few days and then the next time I booted up Vista, I get the following error "Webcam driver open fail, please restart camera or computer. Since the computer is new I reformatted to see if it wasn t a program is blocking something.

Reformat 2 times and the error still ride on the installation of the Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba. I downloaded the update from Toshiba support file but still the same error. The funny thing is that the Device Manager does not detect even the webcam. There is no registration for the webcam. How will I know that it is a hardware problem? Does anyone have experience with this problem?

The store that I bought it offered to give me a new, but do not have any in stock, so I have to wait 3 weeks.

    Thank you

    Hello

The webcam must be listed in the Device Manager. It s not called not webcam but you should find it in the imagery of the devices-> USB video device

The webcam should work fine. Usually after installing the webcam software, you should find the webcam software in the MSCONFIG-> startup
If the webcam is listed here then that would mean that the software/driver webcam still load during a laptop boot procedure.

In some cases there could be a compatibility issue between this software and a 3rd party applications like MS messenger or Skype for example.

In your case, I recommend you to disable the webcam and other applications such as MS messenger or Skype software in MSCONFIG-> startup.
Then clean the BONES and the registry using the CCLeaner.

I also recommend the Vista update to the last State. All fixes and patches must be installed!

Finally if you want to use the webcam then you could start the software manually.
Exe file must be placed in Camera Assistant Software.

    Best regards

  • I was propted to update Itunes. The update failed, and now I can not open I tunes

I tunes has prompted me to upgrade to a new version. The update failed. Now I can't open I tunes.

General advice for troubleshooting when iTunes is unable to properly install (and reinstall or repair it does not) are to remove not only iTunes, but all the components, restart, remove the target installation files and reinstall.  See the following troubleshooting guide excellent by turingtest2:

Troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates

    Especially the section:

Remove and then reinstall iTunes and other software components
