updates SP3 requiring c/d

I'm being invited to download windows xp sp3 updates. I downloaded these updates, but when I try to install it asks I don't have an installation cd. I contacted Dell computers and told me that this cd is not available. I checked to see what the file download seeks and is missing a file called ' proplu, msi ' Microsoft office xp pro with front page. Y at - it no cd availble that will allow this program to run? I had sent a request for assistance in this question earlier and tried to use the advice given but it won't work, he always asks the installation cd it is impossible to get from Dell.  I'm not a computer wizzard and my ability to perform complicated program configurations. My computer is running in version 5.1.
Thanks for your help, Bob

If you have disks, you can uninstall all versions of office, and then reinstall the desktop version of your choice. But as I say you have no drives, so there is nothing more that I can suggest.

Uninstallation of any part of the desktop without an installation disk is a risk you can not reinstall.

Now it is up to you examine your options. Perhaps consider using a more recent version of Office.

Original title: will NEVER install SP3

How were you install SP3? Try this way if you don't.

If SP3 has been downloaded with a program antivirus or anti-spyware, running, you may have a bad installation.

    * If the configuration of your antivirus software prevents certain system changing files, SP3 installation may fail. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus software. You can usually do this by double-clicking on the icon for your antivirus program (it usually appears in the lower right of the computer screen) and clicking on disable.

    * If you disable your antivirus software before you install the service pack, do not forget that you are aware of the risks involved, don't forget to enable it after the service pack is installed.

Remove SP3 via Add/Remove Programs, reboot and download and install again. Click on the link below. Do not use the Windows updates. Before you install, disable your antivirus and anti-spyware such as Windows Defender programs. If you are using another firewall, disable and enable Windows Firewall in the control panel for the installation. Once a requires SP3 and working, you can activate the third-party firewall and put the Windows Firewall. Do not keep the two running.

  • help with updates/SP3 on XP

just install XP Home on a computer and having some problems.

use a disc of SP2, and then immediately installed the SP3 update. then, I installed IE8 .exe Microsoft site. After that, connected to Windows update and DLed all until was completely updated and there is no more updates.

Well, it seems a little weird. one of the services is named wrong. "Human Interface Devices" Department is still called 'HIDDEN', when it should be the former since SP3 should change the name. and some updates seem to be missing from the Add/Remove. It just does not match when comparing it to another computer that has XP SP3 perfectly up-to-date. for example, IE8 has only 3 security updates listed (compared to my other computer 12 or so updates), is it because unless it is installed with the .exe file and it already included more updates?

a little worried. you want to make sure that my computer is completely up to date and it is not all the current problems.

    Hi RoseBlush,

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forum.

Based on the information, you have installed Windows XP Home SP2 on a computer and immediately installed SP3, Internet Explorer 8 and other updates, however still face problems with the service Human Interface Devices and other updates are not installed.

Usually, if you are installing the stand-alone package of SP3 more updates including security and critical updates are installed. This may also depend on the features and programs installed on the system.

For more information, see the articles:

  • icant download windows update SP3 WIN XP 32 BIT X 86 fors

i cannot get sp3 download, I have sp2 but sp3 will not download: Please help. I have windows xp pro media edition x 86 32 bit thx jeff

    Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the Microsoft community. According to the description of the problem, you are not able to download and install service pack 3 (SP3). Provide the following information:

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You are able to install other updates successfully?

    ·         You get the error message?

    ·         You use a third-party security software?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Follow the steps in the article.

Method 3: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

  • has got xp sp2-cant get updated - sp3 framework date need to work

    re installed xp

    Hi Frankiebermontes,

There is not a lot of information in your post, but I can draw from this little information you have just performed a clean install of windows xp sp2 and you encounter difficulties in obtaining all necessary updates to update critical. Am I wrong? Windows update no longer works with just XP SP2 installed.

To get the updates you need to have XP SP3 installed but first of all, you must check your level of service pack, clicking Start---> run and type "winver" in it "Run" dialog box click on 'OK' and if you have XP SP2 installed, click the link below to download and run XP SP3.

Ignore the warnings about the network facilities and IT professionals.

When he did install, revisiting WU to see if it solved your problem.

  • problem updating SP3 after a reboot at the end of the update process, IE8 will not start

I have no problem updated from sp2 to sp3. However after a reboot at the end of the update process, IE8 will not hold. When I click on ie, computer absolutely crashes. Help, please

Restart your computer and if restart is ok are not trying to run IE8. Go to add and remove and remove IE8 and your computer will be re-established on IE7.  If all is ok so far restart your computer once more and if everything is ok at this point you can download IE8 again.

  • Update SP3 current HUGE problems!

I've updated to SP3 of XP (from a pre-installed Dell XP SP2) in August 2010.  Since the "Upgrade", I had many problems with the process that I never had a problem with before.  Problems of mapping network, file sharing, svchost.exe error messages, etc.  When I search these questions, I find myself at different patches that are exactly what I need to solve my problems.  However, when I go to START the installation, I get an error message that "this fix has been included in the SP3 upgrade... you don't need it...» blah, blah, blah. "The update of Windows (or any help Microsoft automated) sees my install SP3 but nothing does NOT detect or can see my problem because I have SP3!  We even bought "Fix - It" (which did correct a few errors of SVC32 which would freeze the computer upward, if I don't hit "debug".)  This computer is our (main) office, which two laptop (Vista & Windows 7) connect through.  Help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, there are times where an SP3 upgrade does not go as well as it should. It is very often because a program antivirus or suite is actively running in the background during the process and interfere with it.

What program AV or suite are you running? Are there other programs security installed and running on your PC?

For now, I recommend to uninstall SP3, using the Control Panel Add or remove programs. You can then run the XP system restore, using the last good restore point before the installation of SP3 problematic. I would not be surprised if the program interfere with the SP3 upgrade would also prevent you to run the system restore. For more information (and for a workaround), see these pages:

    http://bertk.MVPs.org/html/srfail.html

    http://Service1.Symantec.com/support/sharedtech.nsf/pfdocs/2005113009323013

When you are ready to install SP3, you will need to disable any program comes first. Also, rather than using Windows Update, you must use the stand-alone Installer. To get directions, after return.

In addition, link to the standalone installer:

  • Satellite Pro P500 - update card required sound

Hi - I just bought a Toshiba Satellite P500 1 G portable 1.8.4. I save/edit many audio and need a good sound card with low latency this sound card which came with the P500 (Nvidia High Definition - version 1.0.0.59) has an excessive latency. I would like to advice on several good options its (upgrade) that a) works perfectly with Windows 7 Home Premium (BONE), b) is compatible with the P500 and c) whose use ASIO sound drivers.

Your advice would be extremely helpful.
    Best regards, Tim.

    Hi Tim,.

I think that such an isn t upgrade possible. Why? Well, the sound card or the sound chip to say let s is fixed/soldered on the motherboard and t can be exchanged. That s is not so easy on desktop computer, most of the parts have been fixed.

But maybe an update the sound card driver would also be useful for you. You can visit the Web from Toshiba for a such update.
