Updates Windows started failing on 05/11/2012. Get error 641

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium on HP laptop.  It will not install any update .NET framework security.  Also Windows Update keeps trying to install updates to the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite.  I don't have Microsoft Office 2007 Suite on this computer!  Never have!   Cannot install the update of Silverlight security either!  Get error 641.   I have not had an update not to install more than a year!  Have removed all versions of .NET (1.1, 3.5, and 4.0) with dotnetfx_cleanup_tool and tried to reinstall - get error 641.  Tried to reregister Windows Installer - no help.  Impossible to reinstall Windows Installer - says I have the latest version and refuses to install.  I tried registry merge the Microsoft.com forum messages to only repair Windows install - no help.   Cannot restore the system - won't be back before 05/11/2012 because of all the restore points that are created each time it is impossible to install the updates!  Found no. Articles or Forum posts that address this issue or propose something that works.  Help!

There is no doubt in my mind that System Mechanic caused this!

And you have plenty of company, too. See these recent discussions-online

    Hello

I understand that you are warned to install the update even repeatedly. I'll be happy to help you with this problem.

    (1) did you do changes on the computer before this problem?

    (2) you have Service Pack 1 installed on your computer successfully?

    (3) are you advised to re - install the Service Pack 1 update again?

    (4) you receive an error message when you try to install Service Pack 1?

My system (Vista 32-bit SP2) tried to install update KB980248 for several weeks, but I keep getting error code 80073712.  I tried to follow the directions on the site by running the system preparation tool update... did not work.  Then I tried to go back to a restore point and try the update again.  Yet once, didn't. I went back several restore points, but it has always failed.  I don't have an installation DVD, because it came with Vista preloaded.

  • Update Windows ALWAYS fails after a reinstalled (CUSTOM) Windows 7 reformat

I often need to fix a PC by performing a custom Windows 7 reinstall.  Even more now that Windows 10 is itself by pushing on the users and do not restore to Windows 7.  Absolutely 100% of the time, regardless of 32-bit or 64-bit, Prem Home or Pro, Windows updates ALWAYS fail.  I run said repair tools he solves problems 2 and it still does not work.  ALL help topics are not relevant, just the hard disk was formatted, no other software has been installed, no firewall or language problems.  Material is not relevant it accomplishes this task on 20 for 20 different computers in a row.

Another IE 10, I did not and would not run anyway.

I don't know what means the error message 8E5E0147. Help, please!

You can reset the Windows Update components by running the Fixit on this page. But if there is malware present, she will continue to reset the connection to the update servers:

How to reset the Windows Update components

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

Suggest you download and save the Fixit. Then configure the system before the clean boot by running:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista/Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Once the Fixit has been downloaded and the system is started in the pure State, check that the native Windows Firewall is now on if a 3rd party firewall has been used previously. Now run the Fixit and choose the default mode. Restart once it's done and see if the system can be connected to the update servers. If he can't, then rerun the Fixit and choose aggressive mode. Turn it back on when he finished the race and updates.

I suggest before you stop and install the updates, disconnect from the Internet, first.

  • Since I've updated Windows, most of my apps stopped working properly. error is "Inconsistent Application".

Since I've updated Windows, most of my applications (Adobe Photoshop cs5, Autodesk Sketchbook, Intuos5 small pen and touch tablet) have stopped working correctly.

None of them open and the usual error is "Application Incompatible."
They have worked before, but now the same error pops up just.
    What should I do?

    Hello

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Communities.

According to the description of the problem, it seems that most of the applications do not work after the update.

Until we start troubleshooting on this issue please provides us with additional information by answering a few questions below, this will help us better solutions to the problems.

    1. the updates have been installed on the computer?

    2. What is the message full error do you get when you try to open\access these applications?

Please go ahead and follow the steps mentioned and later a update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Set up your computer in a clean boot state, and check to see if the same problem happens.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 3 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Method 2: If the problem persists then I suggest you remove an update and check if it helps:

    Remove an update: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Remove-an-update

Please follow these recommended steps and post if you still experience the problem.

    Hello

Your question of Windows 7 is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. Please ask your question in the Microsoft Dynamics Forum.

  • 48 hours ago windows xp media played .m3u files, now get error Windows Media Player C00D1198 (automatically detect the proxy settings is selected)

48 hours ago, I was able to play samples of the song from Amazon (.m3u files) using Windows XP SP3 Windows Media Player.  Yesterday and also today in an attempt to the same on Amazon, I get error C00D1198 on WMP-

"windows media center cannot connect to the server the server name may be incorrect, the server may not be available, or your proxy settings are may not be incorrect.

Automatically detect the proxy settings is enabled

I did not bring any changes to the computer or downloaded codecs, not played any other player, and in the meantime has used another music site, etc.

Thank you in advance for your help!

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows7/c00d1198

I guess you can still play all the other music ok?

  • Update Windows KB936330 fails to update, no error msg, starts the update but then, UN-installs

Tried to update with disabled antivirus. Don't know what else to do. can anyone help?

    Hi jenniferbiddulph,

You are able to correctly install the other updates?

In order to diagnose the problem, you can check in the update history if there is an error code.

For more information, refer to this link: see which Windows updates are installed

You can follow this link & check if the problem persists:

How to troubleshoot the installation of the service pack, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 problems?

Reference: what you need to know before installing Windows Vista Service Pack 1

    Hope the helps of information.

I don't see what that has to do with the sending and receiving of mail with Microsoft Outlook.  See if anything here helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906602. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]
