  I had the same error code when you try to spend 8 to 8.1 on my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2. It's a pill so no LAN port, this "miracle solution" is not an option.

  After trying the first step in this post (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_install/error-code-0x80240031-installing-81-from-windows/0c91e8f6-ca97-4700-a2b9-38d23c6655a8?page=1 the fourth answer in the thread) it worked without any problem at all. I also disabled Windows Defender when I downloaded it, but it works. After two days of fighting and many many attempts at a fix, the update is finally installed and 8.1 works.

  An error code on a Tablet trying this method. If it worked for me, it will probably be too much work for you. Try even if you do not use a Tablet, it might still work.

  After the failure of the content from my old drive hard (including my copy of Windows XP), I'm trying to install XP on my new drive hard solid state using the reinstallation disc provided with the computer (it's a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop).  When you try to do, I get the following error message:

  File \i386\c_437.nls could not be loaded.
  The error code is 7

  Setup cannot continue.  Press any key to exit.

  I looked this error message, and if I'm not mistaken, it has something to do with damaged or incompatible hardware.  Is there a compatibility issue with my drive hard solid state of SATA2?  What could be the problem, and (if possible) how can I solve it?

  First the cost, you must know if your hardware can support Windows 7

  In General win 7 should a minimum og 1 gig of ram (for 32 bit) or 2 for 64-bit, and it needs a video card 256 MB or greater.

  If your less and can not be updated it may be best to start thinking about a new computer.

  If the above is ok there are various offers for win 8, but make sure you buy form a reliable site of Ms.  There are a lot of current scams.

  I suggest that perform you a clone of the hard drive. Seagate drives and WD offer a free version of the wizard disk.

  Clone the original 200 GB drive to the new drive.  To avoid problems, has chosen a 1.5 or 1 t T drive. Once you have the clone, just install the upgrade on the new drive. All your data will remain intact, and the intact original of 200 GB drive is secure.

  PS > you need a spare sata power and data leads to the clone. Look inside and see what led power is hanging loose. Then I can suggest an adapter or cable. As the DVD is IDE, (not Sata) from what I've read, you will need a Sata data cable also.
