upgrade hard drive shows old size

I have a HP Pavillion Elite four years old m9500z.  I had a hard drive failure, so I installed a new hard drive.  I did a system repair disc, and then made an image of an external hard drive system.  Everything went very well.  After completed I installed the repair disk, shut down the computer, removed and installed the new hard drive.  The old hard drive was 320 GB and the new drive is 2 TB.  Reinstall it also seemed to go well.  After the relocation was complete I started the computer and everything looked good and has a great.  I checked the 'computer' to see the new hard drive, but it showed the size of the old 320 GB drive.    This computer has Vista and I upgraded to 7, so I did that upgrade disc that is why I made the image of the system.  Any suggestions?

Thanks am... everything worked and all is great!

  • 6400 upgrade Hard Drive just SHRUNK... Once again!!!

First of all let me state that I am ready to throw my computer and TWO 2, TWO Yes upgrade hard drives out of my 2nd floor window!

OK, my wind is done, for now.

I have an Inspiron 6400 with HDD 80 GB of origin (73.1 GB space.)  I wanted to go to a Western Digital 250 GB hard drive.  I bought the drive and cloned it.  My first attempt was a purchase Norton Ghost program (after the $150 for the reader, that's another $50 for the program) I cloned it from the laptop via a USB - SATA connection.  Everything seemed fine, until I swapped hard drives.  He got through the BIOS, no problem, then started to windows.  Immediately, it projected blue and that was that.  Swap return original hard drive, everything OK.  Put old drive in the spare computer/SATA slot and realized that the reader shrunk to 73.1 GB. . the SAME SIZE as the original drive.

After days/weeks and literally probably 5 to 6 hours of troubleshooting, downloading about 4-5 programs, utilities, etc, and have EVERY single utility, test and program otherwise tell me the car was very good (less the fact that he was now 170 GB smaller) I thought that drive was simply bad then returned.  (After fighting with Tiger Direct, I had to return it directly to WD, but they at least sent me a replacement unit before that I had to return the first...  (where my 'two' drives))

So I have the new, 2nd hard drive in hand and I say to myself that I would be the clone differently, from my desktop (Dell 690) who had a few ports SATA spare on it.  I cloned it with a different program and once again, everything seems to be okay.  It showed in my office.  This time, I've set manually the new disk partitions to what I end up with.)

So I put the new, larger, cloned drive in the computer, booted and BAAM!  Exactly the same thing.  Blue screen stop...  And guess what... The drive is now 73.1 GB. . and once more, there is nothing I can do to bring back to 250 GB... any computer, software, utility, etc. I throw at it or throw it out in...

Back to Western Digital... but this time, I don't know yet what to say or how to proceed.

    My questions are:

    1. What is happening and why I can't get a 250 GB drive in the machine.  (I can't find ANYWHERE a maximum limit of hard drive)

    2. any thoughts on how to get my drive to the correct size of declaration?

I'm really steam it... I have never spent so much time on what should be a simple question in my 15 years and more and about 20 + systems of computers through my hands...

    Thanks in advance

  • Satellite 1130-z24: upgrade hard drive question

    Hello

I have a toshiba Satellite 1130 - z24, which requires a new hard drive, the old man is a MK2108GAP of 20 GB but I want to set up a larger capacity drive. What is the record of the maximum size that I can use without any problems of compatibility?

One of the following players would work?

    MK6034GAX 60 GB
    MK8026GAX 80 GB
    100 GB MK1032GAX

I searched on various forums and websites, but the only information I can find is that the BIOS will not support the discs above a certain size, but I don't know how it is.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hello

I think that good old classic supports IDE controller.

The IDE controller manages max 128 GB HDD due to support of the 28-bit LBA.

So in your case, I would recommend choosing a HARD disk that is not longer than 120GB
so, theoretically the 100 GB MK1032GAX should be compatible

  • Firebird 802 - upgrade hard drives - Solid State / hybrid anyone?

I'm upgrading hard drives on my Firebird 802 (the part the WEAKEST of my Firebird and the SMALLEST score on Windows Index). I replaced the drive secondary with a Seagate 500 GB SATA drive at 7200 RPM (ST950042 4AS) and REALLY improved performance (I have my file on the secondary drive).

It's now time to upgrade the MAIN disk. I'm looking at a "Hybrid" car A Seagate ST95005620AS Momentus XT 500 GB Solid State Hybrid Drive - 500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA 3 Gb/s.

Has anyone tried upgrading the main drive of a hybrid? For a solid Sate drive?

    Thank you

    Enzo

Well WELL, @ 10:39 PM PST after FOUR and a HALF and TWO attempts of the hybrid drive WORKS as my main drive on my Firebird 802!

Using the data transfer software CMS Bounceback ($14.99 per download) the program was missing several files that were essential for the computer to boot. Once I checked the transfer journal and moved the files myself IT BOOTS!

THUS, in a few weeks, I'll post the kind of increases in speed that I experience. First comment, my drives are running @ 98 degrees F. It's HOT, so I'll have to come back a fan for the hard disk enclosure, in fact, you can put at the front of the box and jump through this background grid. Going to put in place tomorrow. Now I'm BEAT!

Thus, it CAN BE DONE on your Firebird! Solution, HERE!

    Thank you!

Sorry, you can not. A CRC error means that there is a serious problem with your drive. You need to replace it.

  • my 1 TB hard drive shows only 500 GB size

I recently had to use this backup to another PC hard drive hard drive is only 500GB, so when the imaged system it I lost the other 500GB, I guess that. I have strength to know that he was going to take the space like that or I would not have done to this PC. When I reinstalled windows and reformat the disk, it recognizes that the 500. I even went in disk management and other programs to try to unlock the other and watch her do not back up.

Any thoughts on how to retrieve other that find a system of 1 to copy image and load on this pc?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that 500 GB of space on your disk to 1 TB is not present even after formatting. We will try the following methods and check.

    Method 1:

Step 1: Check if the problem occurs in safe mode:

Please refer to: , start your computer in safe mode

Step 2: If the problem does not occur in safe mode, then you can perform a clean boot and check.

How to perform a clean boot for a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8

Please note: After troubleshooting, be sure to start your computer in normal mode by following step 3.

Method 2: This issue could be due to malicious programs in the system, so you can run a Microsoft security scanner to make sure that the computer is free of infection by the virus:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Warning: If you run the antivirus program that is infected by the virus scan will get deleted. Therefore, reinstall the program. Also if the files and folders are affected by the virus, while they might even get deleted

Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

  • Satellite P20 upgrade hard drive

I have a 20 P with 60 GB hard drive, which fills up quickly.
Can I switch to one of the largest new HD such as

    Toshiba 100 GB MK1032GAX?

I also guess that my standard would be IDE and I can't use S - Ata?
The BIOs supports this size of HD?

    Thanks, Birgit (starting the computer)

    Hi, Birgit

As far as I know just newer models of laptops have 100 GB hard drives. I had last year to P20. Nice unit.

In my view there should not be any problems but of course try to contact the after-sales Service of Toshiba partner in your country. They have experience with the hardware upgrade.

Please let us know if the upgrade will be successful.

    Thank you

  • Cannot install recovery image on my Equium after upgrade HARD drive

    Hello

I just installed a new hard drive for my Toshiba laptop Equium I contacted Toshiba who informed me that I could mount up to 1 TB, I opted for with a 500 GB at halfway.
After installing the drive I inserted the disc of recovery after a while, it was loaded with the operation completed successfully message. Next message put in place windows could not configure windows to run on this computer hardware. Then windows could not complete the installation to install windows on installation, this restart of the computer...

At the end of the restore process a message tells me to remove the recovery disc and output as soon as I get the laptop stops and doesn t re boot automatically. During the next restart windows message Vista starts for the first time then the cycle starts again. I tried to reload several times recovery according to the instructions, but not good.

    Any help much appreciated

I put t know which model of laptop you have, but if the recovery image is Vista, it must be quite old model, maybe Equium A200.
To be honest I didn't experiment with the upgrade of the HARD drive on older models, but I can imagine the image recovery are a problems with hard drives with huge capacities.

Display please model name and which HDD you inside now.
By the way: if possible, try to install Win7 using Microsoft installation disc. I m it will be safe works without any problem.

  • problem trying to upgrade hard drive on 3000 x 4

    Hello
I am trying to upgrade the hard drive on my Satellite 3000 x 4 a 15 GB Toshiba MK1517. I bought a Seagate ST94811A 40 GB I wanted a speed + increase in size. I removed the drive Toshiba took off the lower metal/plastic shield and its successor the the Seagate, removed the jumper to set as master, attached to the external cover and screwed in place. I turned on accidentally, I missed the BIOS screen and it says no operating system, so I rebooted then you press F2 to enter the BIOS (version 6.0 of Phoenix 4). Unfortunately, it just says not: 'no disk' next drive, he even will not allow set me all settings (it's the same thing with the Toshiba drive). The BIOS seems to have no advanced settings is a cut from the version that works only with the original Toshiba drive? I've updated to the latest version 1.6 on the Toshiba site. I really want to get the player to work please help.

    Thank you

    Will be

    Salvation will be

I'm not sure but I think in the Phoenix BIOS, there is no setup. HARD drive is automatically recognized and you can install OS. Before doing this, it is advisable to make two or more partitions.

If it works well please let me know.

    Good bye

  • HARD drive shows less space than it actually is.

So, we have an iMac 2010 and it's on Yosemite. We installed Windows 7 earlier on a bootcamp partition and it worked fine. Well, go ahead some time and I try to delete the BootCamp partition to save space as we never use it. Utility disk I would remove it, but it wouldn't let me not resize the OS X partition to recover the 300 GB used Bootcamp. So I did everything I could think of with disk utility and he ended up telling me that it cannot repair the disk and try the recovery disk. I did and he told me that he had to be reformatted as he could not do anything. I moved everything I wanted and it reformatted my El Capitan USB installation off the coast. I thought that this going to fix my problem, but not the whole HARD disk it's only 700 GB instead of 1 TB. It shows no way to resize or whatever it is. Something that I watch shows only 700 GB, but I know very well that it is a 1 TB drive. How can I get the HARD drive to its appropriate size?

Also, the command "diskutil list cs" shows exactly nothing when I try. He said only "No CoreStorage groups of logical volumes found."

    Please after the release of

    diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

You will be asked your password, that are not displayed to you.

Utility disk and BC Assistant should not be interchanged to manipulate partitions.

  • By Satellite L300 - 18 d - upgrade HARD drive

    Hi all.
I have a Satallite L300 18(d), which I want to upgrade the hard drive on, could someone tell me the maximum size I can fit is?
    Thanks in advance ;-)

Unfortunately, it is not possible to find these info. All you can get is info from users who have version HARD drive on this machine.

For example, a friend of mine bought used last year L300 on eBay, and the disk HARD has been locked by password for HARD drive. We bought new HARD drive. It was 200 GB HARD drive, and everything went well. The original was, if I m remembering well, 120 GB.

    laurencewithau

    Hello @laurencewithau,

I understand that you are looking to upgrade the hard drive on your desktop computer, and I'd be happy to help you in this case!

According to the Specifications of the product, you can update your system with any size of drive hard as much as it meets the following requirements:

    1. It has a SATA port connection
    2. The male power connector corresponds to the insertion on the replacement hard drive
    3. It is the same physical size as the previous hard disk. If it is less, you can always purchase a mounting bracket on the space difference.

For more information about upgrading the hard drive, please take a look at this resource on installing or replacing a hard drive.

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your response!
