Upgrade to 4.1 VMware tools 8.3.2 cause the print spooler restart
I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.
After having modernized our guests from 4.0u2 to 4.1, I improved the tools on my virtual machines. The next day on the virtual machines Citrix PS4.5 users had tons of printing problems. These servers also had poor performance and restarted thoughout the day because the constant spooler restarts chess CPP triggered.
The solution was to remove the tools from these hosts and re - 8.3.2 vmware install tools 4.0u2 (4.0.0 build 261974). All other virtual machines seem to be fine with the new tools of 4.1. (I also tried to remove just the fine print of the 8.3.2 driver tools without success)
I report to VMware Monday and post what they say. I just wanted to see if someone of another running Citrix or Terminal Server VM has the same issues.
Thank you.
We had similar problems of VERRRY as you did and resolved in this article:
We had to enable VT - x / AMD - v option in the bios AND active the option "use Intel VT-X/AMD-V for the instruction set virtualization and Intel EPT/AMD RVI for MMU virtualization for our VM
We had problems with Server 2003 Enterprise with 8 GB of RAM (so using the/3 GB switch in the boot.ini file) our Exchange 2003 server.
This machine works now head and shoulders all the rest - we're still testing the rest of our virtual machines to ensure they remain stable after changing the CPU/MMU virtualization settings. So far so good!
I really hope that helps you! 14 hours STRAIGHT was devoted to this, including yelling, throwing objects, cursing vmware etc...

I could not install my printer because the spooler is stopped. According to Windows help, the problem can be solved by administrative tools. But the biggest problem is: the Administrative Tools folder contains anything other than "Windows SuperShell Modules. The Service order through which is accessible the print spooler service is NOT there. Is there another way I can make the spooler running?
Hi francisco a.sanchez,.
I suggest that scan you SFC on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.
The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows Vista installation CD.

Wrong message 'VMware Tools can be updated' for the virtual machine within ESXi 4.1
These VMware tools in my guest operating system keep on the list "VMware Tools can be updated" and the yellow exclamation point.
Host operating system is ESXi 4.1.0 build 348481
VMware Tools version is 8.4.8 build 491717
It is not on the files with the extension.001 as described in the following article
I checked and there is no file with this extension.
I think that VMware tools is unable to read or to compare the correct numbers. Or is there another reason?
Reply to my own post:
The answer, in fact the procedure, is inside this article:
https://communities.VMware.com/docs/doc-31365
For some reason VMware Tools is not installed correctly (for example files from previous versions are left inside the hard disk). So I have to do a manual cleaning before you reinstall the tools.

"VMWare Tools: unmanaged" is displayed on the summary VI Client.
Hello
I'm building a Virtual Appliance using VMWare Studio 2.0, with Ubuntu 8.04 - 1 as the guest operating system. This unit will be certified 'VMWare Ready'... If all goes well...
The problem is the VMWare tools are reported as "Not run" in the client summary VI. Anyone know if this is acceptable? What are the downsides to it being 'unmanaged '? VMWare tools that were installed were the default values for this particular os guest, who are the open-vmware-tools.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

As the author of the test VRVAP matrix / guidelines, I am happy to answer:
"Unmanaged" is a valid state for VMware Tools and indicates that some other mechanisms that the classic "interactive/scriptable" VMware Tools installer engine is responsible for maintaining components ' tools '.
It's what I expected to see most of the new virtual appliances, subject to the evaluation/validation via the ready program virtual VMware.
Usually the State "unmanaged" is triggered by one of the three cases:
VMware operating system specific (OSP) served as http://packages.vmware.com Packages
Open VM tools
VMware Studio 2 supplied with OSP
The salient bit is at the end of the TC 2570 VMware Tools - General.
The basic set of operating system components invited side feature called "VMware Tools" MUST be present, activated and functioning properly. Additional information defining this requirement are covered in case of test 2571 by 2579. The version number and compilation VMware specific ABI to use Tools are not prescribed.

VMware tools does not start on the comments
I would be recognizing a few tracks on this problem, the VMTools won't start;
The server VM/host: Linux 2.6.18 - 92.1.22.el5PAE #1 SMP i686 i686 i386
Comments: Linux 2.6.18 - 92.1.22.el5PAE #1 SMP i686 i686 i386
Anything not appearing in the newspapers when I try to start the services;
status of /etc/init.d/VMware-Tools
VMware-guestd is not running
/etc/init.d/VMware-tools start
Checking connection to hot acpi OK
Starting VMware Tools services on the host:
Switching to host config: OK

Before running VMware Tools for the first time, you must
Configure it to your kernel running on the
following command: "/ usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl".
Config tools... He'll try to compile tools for your kernel, make sure you have the kernel and GCC installed headers. If the compilation fails, there should be a build any - any for the "vmware tools" somewhere on this site...

The print spooler error and upgrade to Windows 7
Upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7 will correct itself a print spooler that won't start? We tried every problem under the Sunwithout success and received quotes from costly service charges because the warranty has expired. We finished are trying to solve the problem of print spooler. Since we are interesting in the upgrade anyway, this could be the best fix apart from the purchase of a newer computer.
Hi awa9701,
Yes, because of the upgrade to Windows 7 should fix print spooler.

Is it possible to prevent the VMware Tools to try to reach the update server?
I'm under 8.0 on a Win 7/64 host. I usually install tools in a virtual machine that has no network connectivity. When I start to install the tools, he's trying to connect to the update server to check if it is current. Is it possible to have tools simply boot and install and not try to connect? Thank you.
I don't have a VMware Workstation 8 running at the moment, but IIRC the update settings can be configured in Edit-> preferences.

upgrade vmware tools with orchestrator
I still have many armies ESXi 3.5 although I updated my environment to ESX 4 3/4. The task of rehabilitation for the vmware tools upgrade does not work for virtual machines running on esx 3.5. Can orchestrator automate the task of upgrading vmware tools on a host ESX 3.5 and reboot the virtual machine. Does anyone have an example to help out me with? I know probably possible, but I have just install Orchestrator and did nothing with it yet. I was thinking that this may be a task well start with.
vCO server comes with a plug-in of VC4.0 with which you can configure some hosts/VC only 4.0 and later versions. In order to run workflows on ESX 3.5 hosts, you need to install the plug-in, VI3.5 there in vCO/extras/plugins server. The file has the extension VMOAPP, you can change to .jar then check out the plugin VI3.5 .dar file. After installing correctly, you can then drill library of built-in workflow, for the category of the VMware Tools, which you can find the upgrade tools workflow. It would automate the up-gradation of the tools, as long as the toolsAutoUpdateSupported is set to true in the virtual machine. In addition, this API works successfully if the tools are not updated. For ESX 3.5 hosts, you must run the workflow in the VMS VIM3 management category.
Hope it will be useful.

Home - openSUSE Tumbleweed
Client: Windows fully implemented 8.1 update
VMware WS 11.1
"Its been the cased for a while when I go to upgrade VMware Tools on my Windows (initially created using WS 10.x) 8.1 I get the message"VMware Tools"unavailable (in gray) installation, the Reinstgall or upgrade tools. No other VM I have this problem - including Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, and Windows Server Technical Preview. All the VMS to Linux isn't this - indeed I have never seen in any version of WS.
Has anyone else seen elsewhere. Is there a solution?
Mystified.
Instead of guestOS = "other" please select the guest OS Windows in the virtual machine settings to see if that solves the problem.

I used to use VMware Workstation 10 and recently upgraded to VMware workstation 11. However, whenever I try to install a newer version of VMware tools, it will fail with message saying something like "VMware Tools can be installed in the Virtual Machine.
Yes, I am trying to install VMware Tools within the guest operating system, but I get this notification for all my virtual machines, I'm running.
I'm under 6 Virtual Machines simultaneously and they run on Windows 7 32 bit OS and configured with 4 GB of RAM, 1CPU, 100GB HD + 5 GB second HD for the swap file, NO printer, no sound card.
For each virtual machine, I changed about 50 + key of Windows registry and detect the values to hide from all the programs that they are running on the virtual machine.
I assume due to records, I changed, it confuses VM installer who it is not running on a Virtual Machine. Then I tried to change all these registers changed to send it back to the original value, yet I is always the same message.
I must be missing either some registry values or values that I restored is false. But I don't know which is the case.
I can simply delete all my Virtual Machines and start again with the new virtual machine, but I don't want to repeat this process whenever a newer version of the VM tools out. and installation of windows and search and replace registry values for each virtual computer is full of works.
So, here is my question. Anyone know how to force the update / install VM tools in my virtual machine?
P.S. I added under scripts in the file .vmx for each of the virtual machines. I don't think it would cause the problem but just in case I include it.
