Upgrade to Fusion 3.0 killed/permissions to my XP VM

Stupidly, I decided to test the water today with Fusion 3, after finally resolving a long Mac permissions issue date, I had a guest VM running in different user sessions. I upgraded to Fusion 3 and as soon as I started it, the left menu displays a message "error". The right menu displays a message that says:

"No authorization to access this virtual machine.
"Configuration file: Users/scott/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP/Professional.vmwarevm Windows XP Professional.vmx.

So, I thought it must be a problem to upgrade when you have an existing VM installed under Fusion 2 etc. So, I uninstalled Fusion 3 and reinstalled Fusion 2.06 and much to my horror, I am now getting same message molten 2.06. Of course install Fusion 3 changed something in my virtual machine. The question is what changed and how to fix it so I can go back? Thanks for any advice.

Open Terminal.app

CD Users/scott/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized.

sudo chown of R - the + username+ "Windows XP Professional.vmwarevm"

user_name is the name of the user who must have (if you change username Scott scott). Log in as a user and run the virtual machine.

I upgraded from version 1 to 3 and not had to do... so quite the anomaly. It will be useful.

  • Problem with the mapping of the keyboard after upgrading to Fusion 7

    Hello

I noticed that the keyboard layout has changed in the comments after the upgrade to VMware Fusion version 6 to version 7, even if nothing has changed in the settings "Region and language" in comments Windows 7.  Keys that have changed are "------' with ' < ' and ' | ' with ' > ' everything is OK. The keyboard is configured in Italian

All the world has noticed the same problem?

    Have you solved?

    Thanks in advance.

The problem has been resolved by the technical support of vmware with a workaround. They know that the question on the keys is interchangeable in the VM after upgrade to Fusion 7.

Their development team is currently working on this issue on the priority. This will be fixed in the next update.

However, they have a work around for the problem of keyboard. Following the instructions below to map the key manually in VMware Fusion.

: Note make a note of the interchangeable keys in Windows before you enable the mapping of the keys.

    1. click on VMware Fusion-> preferences-> keyboard & mouse-> mappings of keys

    2. make sure that 'Enable key mappings' is enabled

    3. click on '+' sign at the bottom

    4. press the key that you want to send from the text box Mac keyboard

    5. press the key you want to receive on the VM in text box

Note: You can also use the combination of change, control, Option, command if necessary.

  • Upgrade to Fusion 4 VM (graphic simulation?)

IM fusion VM 3 running on a PowerMac G5 with OSX, I am interested in upgrading to fusion 4 because of the statement of up to 2.5 x faster graphics.  However, I am interested to know if VMfusion 4 always simulates graphics using Ram instead of being able to access the graphics card on my Mac.  Can anyone say about that?  Someone at - it updated and seen a great improvement in graphics?  I mainly use it for 3d, Rhino and Solidworks modeling

    See you soon

The graphics speed "acceleration" varies according to your needs; I guess with some functions, it will be quite a bit faster and with others, it won't be. I have no experience with Solidworks.

The best way to know is to install the trial of Fusion 4 - mind that you back up your VM before you try it out and ensure you keep your Fusion 3.1.3 images so that you can go back to Fusion 3 If you are not satisfied with the Fusion 4.

  • Upgraded academic fusion 3

    Hey guys,.

I tried to buy an academic upgrading to Fusion 3 - this is supposed to cost $ 19. I have a (commercial) version of Fusion 2 and want to upgrade to Fusion 3 academic version. However, if the upgrade and academic discount add to your cart, I find myself with the following:

1 VMware Fusion upgrade from Version 2.x and 1.x to VMware Fusion 3

    • Mac OS X

    • Electronic download

    $39.99

VMware Fusion 3 - academic discount

    • Mac OS X

    • Electronic download

    $39.99

    Promo Code:

    Total part-time $79.98

It seems that something was wrong, the total price is not reduced. What I've done wrong?

    Best,

    Tom

Academic discount has worked well for me. It seems to me that there are two things wrong with the shopping cart that you posted:

    1. I think it contains a full version of VMWare 3 (University), not the upgrade.

    2. I think you have to have both of them in your cart - otherwise, how do you get to $79.98?

All you have to do is go to http://upgrade.vmware.com/vmwarestore/academicstore.html and then click on the right button that says 'Buy Upgrade'. As long as you have not one of these "no serial number recorded" do issues as I had until today (and many other people have had trouble with), this will add the correct item to your shopping cart. (If your cart contains other stuff too, you can remove it.)

  • Considering the upgrade to Fusion Version 3.1.3 (416484), OS x 10.6.8.  Advice?

I bought a MacBook Air in 2011, with the latest version of the Fusion.  I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and have never had any problems with it.  Lately, some new apps do not work on the BONE, so I am considering the upgrade to Yosemite or El Capitan.  I am concerned to make my system unstable, and some of the things I read on the blogs on El Capitan and Version 8.0 do not increase my confidence.

I OS X 10.6.8 and Fusion 3.1.3.  The MacBook Air is the Intel Core Duo 2.13 GhZ processor and 4 GB of RAM.  Can anyone give me some advice regarding the stability of the various upgrades of version for the OS and the merger?  In addition, there are issues related to upgrading the version of merge with Windows 7?  TIA

You need to upgrade the host operating system - Apple to not support 10.6.8 more, so you are exposed on the net.

The biggest challenge that you have is that all the new OS versions (i.e. support) really want 8 GB in the machine for a solid performance, so unfortunately, it is a simple minimum configuration for a modern machine.  but because of security issues, an upgrade is always a good idea. You might as well go to 10.11 - the system requirements are the same as 10.9 and 10.10, and there a lot of stability and security bugs.   To make it work OK with 4 GB on that CPU, you'll want to close all other applications before you start merging and stop melting when you use do not.

Here is the order of the steps, I suggest you:

    (1) make a full clone of the system to an external drive.  Time Machine is not enough, both because on this corruption operating systems silent vintage can slip, and Time Machine is not reliable for the backup of virtual machines at all.  I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner, of www.bombich.com.  Mike is a great guy, and that the software has saved my bacon many countless times.

    (2) stop - no suspend - all your virtual machines.  Delete snapshots, you might (I'm not sure if had Fusion 3 snapshots, but if she did, removed at 100%).

IMPORTANT: If you use the former FileVault 1 (which is what came with 10.6.8), you MUST disable it before upgrading.  Check system preferences/security/filevault.  If it was turned on, make another clone after deactivation.

    3) upgrade your host operating system.  That will turn off a lot of your software (including Fusion), as incompatible.

    (4) upgrade of all other software including Fusion to the current version.

    (5) start the virtual computer and upgrade the virtual hardware and VMWare tools when you are prompted.

    (6) make sure that the virtual machine has only 1 GB of RAM and 1 core assigned to it if you can.

  • Cost of upgrading to Fusion 7 on the site of the United Kingdom is the same as the purchase of new copy

    Hello

I noticed that the Fusion 7 upgrade on the UK site costs £49,94.

It's the same price as the purchase of a new copy that I see.

I thought the update price would be lower than the price again, or have I missed something?

    Thanks, Paul

Ah, it's showing the price of upgrade correctly now - just hope that nobody upgraded early and paid the higher prices.

  • Need to upgrade to Fusion - help a user stupid!

    Hi all

I recently move my iMac to Mountain Lion and my Fusion v3 does not work anymore. I know.. probably should have checked that first.

I thought I could easily buy an upgrade, but I can't find my key product anywhere. I cannot open the merge to find and it didn't register with VMware.

Someone at - it indexes about either find the key in the application files or to force the application to open?

    Thank you!

You can retrieve the license file 'file Support/VMware Fusion/license-merger-30-e1-200902' and it will be there, as for example: Serial = "1A2B3-C4D5E-6F7G8-H9I0J-1K2L3M"

  • After the upgrade to Fusion 4.02 flip and alt - tab in W7 aero does not work do not

After that I upgraded to merge (after the use of Fusion 3) 4.02, Windows 7 aero flip and alt - tab show black screens instead of their normal screen content. I did not have this problem with Fusion 3.

Aero flip I feel only shows black boxes, not content, this very interesting feature of rendering useless. Similarly, using alt - tab, the content does not appear. An example of what I get when using aero flip in my virtual machine is shown below:

    Hi halcwb,

You have upgraded to 4.1 Fusion?  A number of 3D rendering problems have been addressed in this update.

  • Cannot open the VM after upgrade to fusion 4.02

    Hello

My VM - then Fusion 4.01 race me thre was an availeblae update. I chose the upgrade and after that the window with VM shows my VM with a brand of climbing on this 'error '...

During an attempted "Flie - Open" I can't select the file of the VM at all

Trying to open the virtual machine from the finder I just get the message 'cannot open '...

I had once an error that the file has been assosiated to a totally different application - but I am unable to reproduce this error

Someone knows how to solve this problem, or at least get my 4.01 fitness to work

I was able to get the error... yet once while choosing and right my machine VM vmware

"The document 'MyVM.vmx' could not be opened. VMware Fusion cannot open files in format "Steinberg VST mixer settings" "

It seems that the Mac OS X Launch Services Database is messed up.

Try to make the folder the files that constitute the Virtual Machine in a Document Package by adding the .vmwarevm extension and see if it will then start in VMware Fusion correctly.

Otherwise, you can use a program like RCDefaultApp to correct extensions .vmx association and or .vmwarevm.

  • upgrade required Fusion 1.1 to 2.0.5 lost initial virtual machine environment and Windows data... no help on a recovery?

Thank you for taking the time to read.

My brand new MacBook Pro came pre-installed with VMWARE Fusion intentionally, so I could run a Windows XP environment to migrate from the 10 years of content from Outlook to Entourage. Everything worked very well when one day, VMWARE said that I had to upgrade. I did and have not been able to run a Windows environment since. My Outlook and Windows configuration data is not available and I have 4 attempts to vmwarevm. When I try to load the original VM, I get an error/warning message: "this virtual machine is obsolete." It's the guest who has begun the process of upgrading to 2.0.5.

I need access to my first setup of Microsoft Office and Outlook. no indication on how to access my previous data would be great.

Thanks for any help at all!

    Kind regards

    Jeff

The error"The VMware Tools resume script did not run successfully in this virtual machine. "is the crux of the problem here...

I could try to delete the files from the virtual .vmss machine and see if you can connect.

Right-click on the Virtual Machine window computer virtual library > show in Finder

Make a right click the .vmwarevm bundle > Show Package Contents

In this window, trash all .vmss files, and then try and turn on the Virtual Machine.

Note that this is the same as pulling the plug on a physical pc stuck/frozen.

Let us know if this helps =)

UPGRADE VISTA TO WINDOWS 7 - FAILURE!

I bought W7 upgrade to Vista Home Premium. Downloaded all the files but the s/w does not load... tells me that I don't have clearance on the desktop or is it write-protected... I am administrator and that you have full control... what to do next?

Sounds like you downloaded the. BOX files - Setup1.BOX, Setup2.BOX and a. EXE file. If so:

DVDS from files .box - if you downloaded the. EXE &. ZONE files (3 total) follow these instructions to make a bootable from download Windows 7 DVD:

    http://www.TomsHardware.com/Forum/1392-63-Windows-upgrade-bootable-guide-having-issues

Another option - download the ISO file, it is easier to turn into a DVD.

If you purchased Windows from the Microsoft Store, you can log on to your account and select the correct level of bit for download, and download the ISO file.
