USB HDD on esxi comments

Hello

I think about using ESXi however I wondered if I would be able to plug a USB key into the ESXi host material and do appear in a guest virtual computer? just as it would if I connected it to my PC

Thank you

David

USB virtualization is not yet available in ESX/ESXi 3.x or 4.0.

Maybe in the future releases.

VMware Fusion does not a "system tray" but the Interface of VMware Fusion has a status bar.  Take a look at: VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > VMware Fusion help > navigation in VMware Fusion > overview of the Interface of VMware Fusion

  • Connection speed 2.4 Ghz E3000 and USB HDD

I use WRT160N for my internet and wifi at home. For the storage of the laptop, I use Seagete Free Agent 2 TB USB 3.0, which is nice by car.

So I desided to buy E3000 and use as storage server, router, internet and wifi.

I install everything, he went peaty smoot.

During installation, I noticed that 2.4 GHz wifi shows only max 150 Mbps, but 5 GHz 300 Mbps connection speed (I use wifi mini card dell 1510 on my Dell laption, supports the 2.4 and 5 GHz).

I tried different things to the 2.4 GHz to display connection 300Mbps speed (disable 5 GHz option, set the mode to "N" only, always use WPA2, etc.), but without success. When I connect to the old WRT160N, I can see 300Mbps speed of connection.

Can you advice what settings should I set up, so that I can use connection to the E3000 300Mbps?

The second bit I want to share and comment on is the access speed to the reader of the UBS.

When I connect to the reader directly on my laptop, I am limited to 32 MB/s (256Mbps) read/write speed (the laptop is USB2.0, so it seems normal).

Now, when I write of the E3000 max speed wifi I do is about 3 to 3.5 MB/s (24-28Mbps) and when it is connected to the local network (100 Mbps) speed is about 4 - 4. 5 MB/s (32-36 Mbps).

It seems slow, peaty compared to the speed of the USB. 5 GHz wifi rate shows 300Mbps connection 144Mbps speed/2.4 Ghz (which is 18 MB/s), so that the router should be able to keep read/write rate highter.

Is this a problem E3000 or this is the max I can get material in there?

    1. it's a router not a storage attached to the network power house. If you want a NAS with high performance get a NAS. The USB HDD is more for practical reasons, then for high performance. Drive speeds you see through the router are good enough for a device like this. Check what CPU you have in your E3000 and which processors they use in NAS devices that are able to provide data of 250 Mbit/s from a connected USB device and you will see that it is a completely different League...

    2. the 150 Mbps is a rate of 20 MHz. The connection uses only a band of 20 MHz and not a 40 Mhz. This is usually due to one of these two reasons:

    a. many pilots (for example Intel Centrinos) wireless equipped with 20 MHz preconfigured on the band 2.4 GHz. It will link ever more quick then 150 Mbps, unless you change the configuration of the driver.

    b. most / all new routers observe interference of signal on the tapes and automatically returns to 20 MHz mode, if they find too much interference. If you have many other access points in your proximity 40 MHz would mean more than twice the interference on the connection. Any other communication on stuck on 40 MHz channels would interfere with your communication. With a lot of traffic interfering on the range 2.4 GHz, you would see very low real rates if you forced 40 MHz in this case.

And your neighbors using 802.11 g wouldn't really appreciate your bandwidth hogging. Because of the limited number of channels without overlapping on the 2.4 GHz band a router running on 40 MHz basically use 2/3 of the total available on the entire 2.4 GHz band available bandwidth. The execution of 40 MHz in a neighborhood with many other access points is all just a terrible idea...

  • USB HDD as a data store and storage of VMS and new virtual machines

I have a server Esxi 4.1 with 1 TB RAID 5 storage and 3 virtual machines. The storage is full and no space for another HARD disk, so my question is: would it be possible to use a USB HDD as a data store and could be included as a storage for new virtual machines or the VM? If so, could someone let me know how to do it because I'm not able to detect the HARD disk on the host itself.

No, it is not possible to use a USB drive as a data store.

To me, it seems that you have a problem with the USB port and the computer does not recognize the USB HDD correctly.

  • Satellite R10-101: 300 GB USB HDD does "jump up" automatically

    Hello

    I have a Satellite R10 - 101 Tablet PC.

I wanted to back up my hard drive by copying an image of my entire hard drive on an external USB hard drive.

I got a 300 GB hard drive on a Windows XP SP2 desktop machine, mounted the drive in a USB2 enclosure and the player properly connected to my laptop.

However, whenever I connect drive USB2 HARD it does not 'jump' automatically and whenever I want to access it I have to go to disk management and to reactivate (it always seems offline).

I have no problem with my Ipod 60 GB (with video), or with usb flash drives.

I unchecked the box in System/Device Manager / USB Root Hub that says allow windows to turning the unit off. I also tried to reassign the drive letter of the USB2 HARD drive but still no luck.

In addition, when you boot the pc with Acronic True Image to backup my HARD drive embedded it does not recognize the USB HDD...

I have the latest BIOS and all windows updates, my laptop supports these external hard drives type of?

I can try to make it work automatically (e.g. be visible like a F:\ for example when it is plugged into the usb port)?

To make it more interesting, I have the problem on both Satellite R10-101 models which I admit, but my other laptop computer dell Latitude 4 years ago recognize the USB2 HARD drive automatically, please help!

  • External USB HDD 320GB 10 error code

Hi im having trouble with my 320 GB external hard drive I bought about 2 months ago and has worked very well to the top and up to now, where it seems to want a driver who I was not provided with the hard drive because it is plug-and-play and does not connect to my computer just returns the error code 10 on all my computers can someone help me find this driver or help me with this problem out as I noticed many people seem to happen with the 250 GB and 320 GB hard drives at the moment?

    Hello

You suggested that this drive worked properly.
One question; have you used the option to remove USB device?

Sometimes the USB could not recognize the USB device because the device was removed without using this option.

Maybe this will help: go to Device Manager and remove the USB ports. After restart of the operating system to reinstall the USB ports. Then check if the USB HDD works.

  • Satellite M30-604 external usb hdd boot failure

    Hello world

Hard drive problems seem never to end for me.

I have a satellite M30-604. Recently my Hitachi HDD crashed. Now, I am trying to boot from an external hard drive via usb, but I can't.

    (a) I use a ViPower 3.5 "(model VP9258T) enclosure external usb 2.0"
    (b) with a Seagate 200 GB hard drive.
    (c) I used the recovery cd to install windows on the seagate
    (d) the bios (v1.4) seems to support the external device to start
    (e) the internal hdd crashed is deleted (it's internal hard drive space is empty)
    (f) the bios sees the drive and recognizes it as a USB

I think it should work, but when I turn on the computer, after a while, he says: "0201: failure IDE #0"
and gives me the options to run the program installation or start-up.
When I choose boot it gives me the window with "boot in safe mode" screen, 'last known good configuration' etc, but nothing of the work options (it restarts and gives the same again).

    Any ideas please?

    Hello

My research on this subject has led me to believe that it is not possible to boot an operating system of attached USB HDD XP. I read several posts on various usenet groups on this issue, and the consensus of opinion is that it is simply not possible.

Several suppliers of BIOS claim allow a USB HDD to be suitable for start-up purposes but I still have to attend such a machination succeed with XP.

  • Impossible to safely remove external USB HDD - ejection of mass storage device problem

    Hello

I have a 250 toshiba external hard drive. "When I go safely remove device and click on stop, guests me that ' ejection of mass storage device problem and try later.

Is there a reason for this? As I have heard it is dangerous to pull the cord without stopping it first.

This happens usually when something is always access to the USB - HDD.
Yes, it s dangerous to pull on the cable, because you can lose some data and the file system may be damaged. But if you have a situation where you need the drive to take with you and want to just get out the cable to the USB port there is a little trick to disconnect the security apparatus:

Do right click on 'My Computer'-> click on Hardware-> click "devicemanager"-> go into "diskdrives"-> then you need to click on the drive that is your USB - HDD-> with the right button and then click on 'Properties'-> in the menu properties of this drive, you must go on "policies" and click on "optimize for quick removal"-> and then click OK and exit this menu and all-> perform a reboot-> closing information fact. :)

After that, it s safe for remove you your drive even if it s not ejected. :)

    Welcome them

  • External USB HDD PX1269E - 1 50 cannot be recognized on computer

    Hello

I recently bought an external hard drive, Toshiba 500 GB external USB Hard Drive PX1269E - 1 50 I want to use it on my Pentium 4 3.6 ghz memory 1 GB 400 GB internal hard drive and motherboard ASUS P4P800.
I installed Windows XP Profesional SP2 on this PC.

We have 4 pc at home and he answered on any of this.
The next problem is that after I pluged in the USB 2.0 conector, nothing happens? In the close computer store, I asked the seller to try it on one of their computers and the seller pluged it in one of the laptops and my external hard drive has responded immediately!

After the test to the computer store, we have purchased a pci usb 2.0 card because we thought it was the problem of usb, but after installation of the usb hard drive adapter has failed, either.

    What could be the problem?

    Hello

The dealer has tested the HARD drive and it worked.
It seems the exterior works of HARD drive and can be recognized on the computer.

In my opinion it s is not a HARD drive problem. For the most part this external HARD drive needs more power that can provide a USB port. My brother uses external USB HDD and it was delivered with a cable from USB 2. His HARD drive must be connected to the 2 USB ports on the laptop.

I think that if you have a single USB plug cable, so you should use an external power supply for the HARD drive or try to connect it to the USB hub with external power supply.

    Maybe it will work
