USB ports don't automatically recognize my external hard drive

And I can't find a way to recognize either manually.

I rebooted, I checked the Device Manager, rinse it and repetition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if it's important but... the HDD is a 1 TB of cavalry.

  • Backup Win XP does not recognize my external hard drive

Windows XP Backup Wizard does not recognize my external hard drive and does not list it as an option for storing backups.  I suspect a registry problem because the backup wizard previously recognized this drive and saved on it several times before I was running ARO 2012 for cleaning the registry errors.  I can always open the player in windows Explorer and see the files it contains, but Explorer Windows XP now lists the drive as an "expansion disc" instead of a 'removable disk '.  When I right click in windows Explorer and open 'properties' for this drive, it shows it as a 'local disk' instead of a 'removable disk '.  The drive is ok when I click the button 'Remove hardware safely', and it reports "safe to remove hardware" after I click on "USB storage device - Drive (J :). ».  Help!

I used Aero2012 to clean up the errors in my registry that's because my computer is desperately slow, especially when you start (8-10 minutes) and also with internet explore (move cursor to previous typos when you compose a new e-mail message).  Is there a safe way for me to speed up my computer?

  • Backup and restore does not recognize my external HARD drive.

When I try to use the ms backup and restore it only recogniza my external HARD drive.

Is that possible reinstall or repair?

    Hello daniloalvesmaciel,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

First of all, I could check and see if the hard drive is listed on the Windows 7 Compatibility Center. Clickhere for a link to the Compatibility Center. If it's on the Compatibility Center, then check out the web site of the manufacturer for updates or drivers.

Then check if you see the external hard drive in the Device Manager.
    To check these options:

    1. click on the Start button to display the Start Menu , then selectControl Panel .
    2. the Control Panel window opens.
Now click system and security from this window.
    3 Scrollfor Device Manager.
    4. click on the Device Manager.
    5. to view material click on any category and the associated list of installed hardware. For example. Click on hard drives.
Right click on the external hard drive. You can see the different options likeUpdate driver software, disable, uninstall and properties etc.
    6. click on Properties to display the details of the hardware. Click theDriver tab , to view the details of device driver.
    7. then on the software update driver to check and see if you have the latest drivers.

Then check again and see if you can save on the external hard drive.

If this is not the case, try to map a drive to the external drive. Can you back up now.

Please respond and take stock of your problem.

    Sincerely,

  • USB 2.0 profits do not recognize the external hard drive: Matsunichi model DM189

I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1125nr, running Vista Home Premium 64 - bit with Service Pack 2. When I plug my: matsunichi dm189 60GB drive external hard - driver has not loaded - poster Device Manager as unknown device USM - works fine under xp sp3

I thought about it. If often, we try to solve the problems of jump to the 'mountain' rather than from the "mole hill" - which means find the obvious solution rather than jumping to some exotic solution.

In this case, I plug the USB cable into the hard drive: Matsunichi then plug it into a USB 2.0 on my XP desktop computer and the hard edge has been recognized and the drivers installed.

Whenever I tried to connect the hard drive: Matsunichi (already connected to the USB cable) to my laptop Vista OS based, nothing worked.

HOWEVER, I tried to plug the USB cable in the Vista OS laptop based FIRST, and then plug it: hard Matsunichi THEN push the USB CABLE, everything has worked. Vista the: Matsunichi has recognized as a USB mass storage device and loaded the driver without problem. GISH.

Logically, since the HDD: Matsunichi pulls its power through the USB 2.0 port, it simply "Boats" on the power and Vista sees the device and load a generic mass storage device driver.

Why does not load Vista as XP but requires the USB cable plugged into a USB 2.0 port 1, who knows.
