Use of an SSD RAID 0 on laptop

I'm curious to know if would all benefit of performance... or barrier... If I took the party of the ability of my Asus laptop gaming to create a RAID 0 on two fast SSD occupying now the two bays for discs HARD internal, instead of the approach of conventional to use an SSD for the page file, programs and the OS and the other SSD for all the rest. Could a single volume that has more than 1 GB per second of data with ALL that SURPASS two separate SSDs when you use body?

The only problem I see is that with your OS/apps on RAID 0 recovery if problem is extremely difficult, normal recovery tools do not work on RAID volumes.  This is the main reason why I don't him did not.

I know she would give a better score PPBM but only on the partition disk i/o.  My cell similar to G750JW (two non-RAID SSD) to happen probably my time for export for the second score of SSD of ~ 75 seconds to something close to half of this ~ 38-40 seconds.  I seriously doubt that he would do anything to change the 3 other scores because they are designed to be intensive with (MPEG2-DVD without GPU) CPU or GPU (MPEG2-DVD with GPU) or a combination of the two (H.264).  I really don't think it's worth the problem or otherwise I certainly would do it.

    Hello

I would like to install an msata SDD in my laptop, I know that I have an empty msata slot, but it is intended to be used for fastboot files (according to my manual). If I put my own 256 GB SSD there, it will be usable for startup?, or I can also store files user on it?

Thank you very much in advance!

    Dear customer,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query on the Forum from the HP Support

The mSATA port on the motherboard can be used as a cache drive to a hard drive with an operating system installed on it for him to give a performance boost.

Cache drives are mainly used by people who cannot afford a large SSD to install their o/s and the most frequently used on programs.

I'm sure that the port of mSATA is used strictly to cache of a HARD drive with an operating system installed on it and we cannot use mSATA as first SSD to store files on it

  • Can I replace HHD with SSD in G570 4334 laptop computer 43344JU

    I have a laptop of Lenovo G570 4334 43344JU. It has a Pentium Intel B940 2.0 GHz processor,

Conditioning LGA1155, Chipset ID 1 49. And the HARD drive is a HITACHI 320 GB SATA II 2.5 INCH HTS543232A7A384.

Windows 7 Ultimate is installed on this computer.

I want to replace the HARD drive by an Intel SSD 240 GB. Is it possible to replace only the current with HARD drive

for example, an Intel 530 240 GB internal 2.5 inch Solid State Drive without changing the other hardware components such as the drive controller?

    Hi lor1cal,

    Welcome to the Forums.

Yes, it is possible to replace the stock 2.5 "SATA HDD to a 2.5" SATA SSD.

To put you on the SSD, you can:

1 clone stock HDD to the SSD with Paragon Backup & Recovery Home 12 (free trial) or:

    2. perform a clean installation on the SSD using a Windows 7 bootable disc. If you do not have a bootable media and you only have a license key, you can get a Windows 7 ISO on this Web site. To create a bootable USB key, see this guide.

    Hope this helps

  • How to install and configure an SSD 256 on my laptop HP ENVY 17-3290NR (3D)?

I'd appreciate some advice how to add an SSD 256 (Samsung 840 Pro SSD 256?) to my laptop HP ENVY 17-3290NR (3D).  The laptop came standard with a 80 GB mSATA + 1 TB hard.  I would use the SSD 256 as the stand drive and install the operating system and programs on this drive and store all the data of the 1 TB HD.

What should I do with the mSATA SSD 80 GB? Where should I install the SSD 256? HD slot-1 or slot-2?  Thank you in advance for your help and instructions on how to proceed.

  • Adding a Cache of SSD drive for my laptop

I posted earlier about this and got a response from Hüffer... Maybe I misunderstood, but installing the msata ssd is proving to be more complex and more complex that I read in response to Hüffer.

When I install the SSD and start the system, I not give me the ability to choose which drive to boot from.  Instead the system tried to start, fails, seems to take a dump, and then try again.   If I use the ESC key and to open the OS boot manager, it still does not offer the possibility to choose the player and fails, but this time said he's trying to do an automatic rebuld.  (or something of the sort).  At this point, I interrupt him and force it to power down.

I tried to research the issue elsewhere, and it seems that the AHCI mode that the system works is the source of the problem.  My Intel RST not have her option "speed up" which I believe is necessary and offers instead 'performance '.  Here is a link to one of the better posts I found on the subject: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/How-it-Works-Intel-SSD-Caching-148/

At the beginning of the post, you will see pictures of what the Intel RST should look like your SSD when adding.  The first photo shows it with five buttons with one of them being "accelerate" and notes that this picture below:

"Launching the Intel RST software and click on the 'Accelerate' button." "If the button is not present, you or the other are not in RAID mode or one of the other conditions have not been met.

I found a setting to what happens to the bios on a windows system 8 and it offers the option to enable raid.  My conclusion is that it is what I have to do to add the msata ssd in my system as a disk cache.

    So... my question...

My conclusion is correct?  Or maybe the answer is that my system does not meet some other requirements to use the SSD msata as a disk cache.

My system is a Touchsmart from HP Envy 15-j003cl Notebook PC.   I found the reference in the Device Manager there the "Intel 8 series / C220 series family Platform Controller Hub ' and I read a decription of the hub there is hope that he does not support what I want to do.  (http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/datasheets/8-series-chipset-pch-datashee...

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

To enter the RAID configuration, you must first go in the BIOS (F10) and turn on legacy startup and disable secure boot. Then you can enter the RAID configuration. You press ctrl-I (capital I) when you rewind until you get in the RAID configuration. You want to do the separate no RAID drives. But first let's see how they are defined by default. Go into the RAID Utility and do not change anything. Just report what you find.

  • How to enable the AHCI for SSD on M6-1010TX laptop computer HP

    HELO

Have tried to install an EVO of 840 Samsung 240 GB SSD on my laptop of M6-1010TX with WIN7x64 i5/4 GB and running.

The SSD seems to work OK, but I when I run Samsung magician this is a warning that it must be set to AHCI.

Also, most of the menu items are grayed out and unavailable in Wizard, so I can't see or adjust all parameters. I don't even know if the TRIM work.

There is no possibility of setting to AHCI in the BIOS. (In fact there is no provision for seting pretty much anything in the BIOS)

I've seen a remedy to a similar problem on this forum under 'How to enable AHCI for HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k015dx Sleekbook' which offers to upgrade to the latest version of Intel RST, which is supposed to give favor SSD attitude to go with the 7 series Intel chipset.

I already have the updated HP version of installed RST (2012-05-04 11.1.0.1006), but the Intel site has versions up to 13.1.0.1058 in date 27-05-2014.

Anyone know if these later versions of Intel are safe to install?

PS - I 840 Samsung SSD EVO running on 2 HP ProBooks's a little older, and they run like lightning.

A simple setting in the BIOS to enable the AHCI is available on these. Why not in the new M6?

    Thank you

OK Hüffer---> we have a update

I had the opportunity to re - install the SSD drive this morning.

It seems that you were mostly correct, but there is also a bit of a conflict between the Samsung software and HP hardware.

When I re-installed this time I connected the SSD in USB BEFORE installing the software (Samsung instructions say to connect AFTER insalling software). This has resulted in much better recognition of the SSD and all the options are now available in Sasung magician.

EXCEPT - 1. He always warns AHCI mode being "Deactivated (IDE or RAID).

    2. it does not recognize the SATA 3 Interface

HOWEVER - it seems to work quite fantasmagorically FAAAAAAST

Samsung Benchmark gives random read/write speeds about 30% above their maximum rate quotes

These reference speeds are about double what I get from the above, 2 HP ProBooks who have SATA 2 interfaces, so it seems that the SATA3 interface actually works correctly.

I am now very happy with this performance (but I wish that AHCI warnings were not there)

So the secret seems to be to connect the SSD drive first and do believe not all alerts when the evidence says it actually works OK.

Thank you once again to Hüffer,

    Hawkeye

  • Best practices for the SSD + RAID?

What should be the size of parity when running 2 x Samsung 850 SSD Pro connected to a H710P in a R720xd PE in a matrix RAID 1?

Do not find as much information online information for this...

Is there a whitepaper for it? something that could tell me the best settings when executing the SSD on the PERC H710 (p) - essentially all the configurable parameters when creating a DG/VD.

    Hello

    JW
What should be the size of parity when running 2 x Samsung 850 SSD Pro connected to a H710P in a R720xd PE in a matrix RAID 1?

RAID 1 is not a type of parity and you do not set a size of parity. I think you're talking about the size of the stripe.

The size of the band does not have a big difference on a RAID 1. The size of distribution is most important when you spread data on multiple disks. The size of the stripe can have an impact on the performance of the table by spreading the data on the disks or by limiting access to the data to a single drive. By changing the band size, you can do your berries of access time or improve sequential access times. Smaller block sizes are generally better for sequential reads/writes as they spread usually given on several drives, and larger sizes of band segment are generally better for fast access times because the data, you have access to are usually on a single disc.

In short, unless you are going to hire a consultant to analyze your use of data to recommend settings then I would leave it on by default. Change the size of the default distribution segment only would probably be useful in an environment of database with use of compatible file size and a RAID level across several drives.

    Thank you
