Use of obscene e-mail background-data

Since last week, after the upgrade to the new firmware Android (Lollipop?), my e-mail application integrated uses approximately 250 MB of data in the background. I have disabled the option to download the whole email until you open it, but the problem persists. Does anyone else have this problem? It's really annoying because I have a limited 1 GB data plan and I've now used at least 1.3 GB because of this problem :/

Oh, and clearing the backround data so that only the app is on the table that I need to know if I get anything.

Maybe I should just give up the entire application at the moment and just go with some app part 3

Go into your Email Settings menu, tap on the account and under 'Days to synchronize' choose a reasonable period of time (like a month).
