Users and the Windows 7 parental controls: and how to disconnect a user

I use parantal control time for my two children and have the following questions:

(1) the time limit is too rigid.  The ability to define parts of the day when it's OK to use the computer is fine (so there is no sneaky game at 03:00).  However, the maximum amount of time a day should also be configurable as daily schedules (in the real world) tend to be less predictable, which is the case, apparently, in the land of fantasy of Microsoft.

(2) the office must sign the user at the end of the period (or at least quiese their applications or something).  I am currently assulted with harmonious tones of an internet gambling that my child was in the middle of the cheek.

(3) in any case, I thought, 'I'll go to Task Manager and disconnect them in the user tab.  However, it seems that my being a humble administrator is not enough because it says "access denied."   Why?  The only solution I have for now is to kill individual processes or restart the computer that are not ideal.

Thank you

About Microsoft alone 1 and 2 can be remedied by coding improvements. It may be on the cards or it may not, but I do not know how to report a feature request.

As for 3, I can help you with the simplest solution:
In the task manager's "processes" tab, click on the button [show processes from all users]
The above replaces the task manager of security to run as Administrator profile.
Now, you can return to the 'Users' tab and disconnect the offending user. :)

    * I have already connected to fss.live.com and https://familysafety.microsoft.com. This solution does not remedy the issue.* *.

When you try to use the Windows 7 parental control features, it first asks you to connect to Live.  When I do, I get the 8004B3E9 error Code and it asks me to "connect to account.live.com and accept the terms of use.  However, in doing so, there are no terms of use for me to accept.  I also go to fss.live.come and familysaftely.microsoft.com and no option for the conditions of use is available to accept.  In addition, I tried different browsers.

I can connect on Live.com and view my account easily, but without conditions of use prompt appears for me to accept, so my attempts to use the parental controls are stuck in this cycle, where it won't let me past without accepting conditions that do not seem to exist.

  • Cancel the Option of Parental control password

Using the option of parental control and adding the password, I discovered a password must now connect to my computer, it is not the desired result.
I want to cancel the password and be able to connect without one. NOTE: I have disabled the feature of games on my computer, and ALSO DO NOT need a password for the games.  FROM PARENTAL CONTROLS NOT NECESSARY. INSTRUCTIONS TO DEFEAT REQUIRED.
Your help would be most appreciated! Thank you.

I'm sorry, but you're probably not going to find someone who will help you bypass the passwords in this forum.  There is no way to verify that you are not the very children who are intentionally blocked the computer and if we were to help you bypass the built in security feature we would have defeated its purpose.

  • Instructions on downloading the logs for parental control on the forum

This article explains how to collect log files for parental control that is essential to investigate the matter. The newspaper collected must be compressed and uploaded via a private message initiated by the moderators of the support session.

Here are the instructions on how to download your logs:

    1. download the zip file of FSQuicktrace from this location by choosing the appropriate operating system and the type and architecture you use.  To determine this, press Windows key + R, (the run dialogue box should pop up) type msinfo32 , and then press ENTER.  Under System summary > Type system, it either will tell you x 86-based PC (for 32 bit), - or - x 64-based PC (64-bit).

2 extract the zip file to see a file named FSQuickTrace.exe on your desktop.

  • The use of parental controls to block Youtube will also block Youtube links on other sites from loading?

I'm trying to stop a child direct access to Youtube. My concern is that it must be able to watch Youtube links for the school.   The school has content on one of their pages. I understand adding youtube.com to blocked list prevents the child to have access to this page directly... but it blocks all the content as well, or the child will be able to watch a video, if gave it a link?

    Ribeiro,

If you block YouTube using the parental control, none of the links will be accessible by your child. Because he's going to block it as a whole.

You can allow YouTube to a certain period of time by using parental control settings.

  • password for parental control! How to reset if forgotten.

I forgot the parental control password. How can I reset?

Microsoft can not tell you how to bypass the password. Please see their policy here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/189126

If you have an another administrator account on the system, you may be able to reset the parental control using this account - but I'm not sure, you can reset the parental control password (or if the other account administrator will be able to access the parental controls without a separate password if one has been created for this feature).  You'll have to maybe just disable parental control entirely if you want that the issue that you are experiencing to go further (but which will disable all other controls as well).

Here is a good tutorial on how to use the Parental control - but he doesn't answer your question precisely http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial139.html.

Sorry we can not help you more, but the rules to help move beyond passwords does not allow me to provide and guide or links to something that might help.

    Good luck!
