Users on a computer cannot share printer

Users of this computer cannot share printer

Hi PhilMartineau,

1. you receive an error message/code?

2. are you on a domain computer/House Group?

Printers that are directly connected to a network and not connected to a computer are available to anyone on the same network. These printers must have a network port or wireless connection that allows them to connect directly to the network.

I suggest you to refer to the help article and check if it helps.

For the customer's network, they have a desktop running under WindowsXP system wired into a WRT120N router, with Windows Firewall disabled on this computer. The printer connected via USB has sharing enabled, but not from other computers on the network (all connected wireless, internet access works well) can even see each other, much less the printer is shared by the main Office XP. Network Magic is installed on the main desktop computer, but I do not use it to do anything. Should I uninstall it?

Other computers on the network include:

Two new laptops running Windows 7

An old laptop running Windows XP

An old desktop running Windows XP

Yes, the firewall is already turned off. For some reason, it did not work using the default workgroup name, so I changed them all to a new. It works fine, now.

  • Cannot share printer or files of Office XP Professional.

I can see other computers on our home network from the Office XP Professional, but if I am on any computer I don't see XP Professional PC.  A problem I have a shared printer on the computer and no other machines can add it.  Initially, I had the printer on another XP PC at home but changed to XP Professional.

This problem was driving me pot for weeks after I added a new (used) XP Pro PC to my network.

Finally found my solution on Daniweb

    Run regedit.

    Go to my Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

Find name restrictanonymous and if the DWORD value is 1, change it to 0.

As I said it worked for me, but your mileage may vary.

  • cannot share files from my Vista computer

I have a home network with 4 PC on it. My main PC is a Vista desktop computer, it is connected to my router. The other PC is connected wirelessly. I have a laptop with windows 7. and 2 other desktops with xp installed.  My problem is the following... I have no problem to share files and folders off my public folder on my Vista machine with the rest of the network, but for some reason, I can't share files or folders on my home network on any other place on the Vista PC.  I have an extra hard drive 500 gig installed on my Vista PC I want to use it as a central backup for all of my network drive... but for some reason that I cannot share any files or folders on this drive. I have no problem sharing the drive with other users on this pc... but I can't do it shared on the network. I tried all the conventional techniques of sharing, but no luck. I just get a message that the network resource is not available. It appears on my network under the PC, but it is not accessible. Initially, I wanted to share the entire disc... but advised him to be just a folder in the drive to share rather than trying to share the root of the drive... but still no luck.   What Miss me?

Note: this is a problem with all of my machines in network... not a single one of them can access this drive.

  • I get a "cannot install printer because a policy has been enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 driver ' how can I install my printer?

I have a HP Pavilion dv6500 running Vista 32 bit. I just bought a new printer, a HP Photosmart C4640, when I tried to install and connect I get a message indicating that it cannot install printer as a policy has been activated this block driver NT 4.0. I have run all updates of software and drivers, but still get this message. I've been at this for almost a week now. I've been doing the HP race with regard to aid. I am VERY fusturated at this point and desperately need help. What should I do to make this work?

    Hi jessheffernan2003,

This problem occurs because Windows Vista does not support the installation of kernel-mode printer drivers. Windows Vista only supports installing user mode printer drivers.

To work around this problem, try to get and install a printer driver as a user on the Windows NT 4.0 computer. If you can not get the particular user mode printer driver, try to get a driver printer in user mode compatible with the kernel mode printer driver which is hosted on the Windows NT 4.0 computer. To get a printer driver updated for the print device, contact the manufacturer of the printer.

  • New Win 7 computer cannot access the IP address of the network printer. Help, please.

    Greetings,

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE: we have found the solution to this problem, we, and that I posted an explanation as well as two ways to solve the problem in my 2nd post on May 5, 2015. Scroll down to it for the solution. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not allow the OP to mark one of their own messages as 'the Answer' so this thread continues to be listed as "no answer" when he actually answered me.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The original message follows...

We cannot sign a new Win 7 (64-bit) computer to a printer ethernet established in our local network of 'working '. We have reached the limit of our troubleshooting skills and expertise assistance.

    Our Local network
    ------------------------
The printer is a Dell 5100cn workgroup laser that is connected via an ethernet cable to a 10/100 workgroup switch 5-port Cisco/Linksys. The switch is connected to the built-in cable Motorola modem / 4 port gigabit router / WiFi access point. There is no server between the printer and the network.

Other computers on the network run also Win 7 and have no trouble seeing and using the printer. Some computers are connected via a gigabit ethernet cable to the router Motorola. Other computers connect wireless WiFi (once again, by the same Motorola device). All computers, including the new ones, are attributed to the same workgroup.

The printer has a static IP address. It also has an integrated Web page accessible within the network via a browser to view the status of the printer. All previous computers can view the status of the printer Web page by entering its IP address in a browser.

    The new Win 7 computer
    --------------------------------
At the Windows command prompt, we successfully ping the IP address of the printer and received a return signal. However, we are unable to connect to the IP address of the printer (and status Web page) with a browser. And we cannot find the printer when install us the printer driver. We have tried to turn off the Windows Firewall and it did not help.

When we install the driver, move us as a 'local' printer and create a new "Standard TCP/IP Port" for her. We enter the static IP address of the printer and name the port. Define us the Protocol to "LPR", enter the name of the queue ("lp") and activate SNMP State with name of the 'public' community and the index "1". These settings have worked very well with our previous computers.

When the time comes to 'choose printer', we select 'have disk... '. ' and use the Dell 64-bit for this printer driver. But it does not work and do not print a test page. We even tried to install the printer as a 'network' printer driver, but it does not, either. In addition, the 'local' method always seemed to work best in the past.

The new computer has no harm to see other computers and devices on the network. For example, there is a NAS connected to the same switch Cisco/Linksys like the printer and the computer can access the NAS via its static IP address. The new computer can also access the internet. He can't use the IP address of the printer. We even tried to change the address IP of the printer, but that did not help either.

Despite the fact that the work - the network troubleshooter Windows command prompt ping indicates that the printer is not responding. What do we lack? Help, please.

    Greetings,

I hope that this will be our last post on this subject. We have discovered the source of the problem and can offer two 'fixed' in case someone else runs into the same situation.

With the help of MSConfig and a process of elimination, we have disabled non-Microsoft services that were running on the computer until we discovered that "Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service V2" was the source of the problem.

    Explanation

    ----------------

Our new Win 7 computer contains a communication module ethernet/WiFi/Bluetooth e2200 Qualcomm Atheros. The manufacturer provides a '' Killer Network Manager '' for this system. Its purpose is to monitor and control the flow of data over a network connection in order to optimize for. For example, the user can choose to give the program A high priority and program-B low priority. This ensures that the program-A is less lag in the network traffic.

The primary market for this function, so far, has been the online game (where the name of 'Killer'). It allows players to channel the bulk of the bandwidth available to their game and away from other programs and services that are running at the same time. A response faster online gives the player the advantage it needs to get "kill him" before someone else.

This system of control of bandwidth has interfered with data packets of return of our network, clearing communication between our computer and our printer printer.

    Difficulty 1

    --------------

The simplest solution for us was to disable 'Qualcomm Atheros bandwidth control' for the ethernet NIC that has been accomplished by going to: Windows Control Panel > network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > change the settings of the card (in the sidebar). Then we clicked on our connection to the LAN (our NETWORK ethernet card) and select the 'Properties' command Finally, on the Networking tab, we have disabled 'Qualcomm Atheros control bandwidth' and clicked 'OK' button to close.

All that was needed after that was a quick restart and we were able to access our printer even with the killer Network Manager and functioning of Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service V2.

Either way, we left the control function of bandwidth enabled for wireless (our) network connection because we do not plan on using this network printer when the computer is untethered to ethernet.

    Difficulty 2

    --------------

If you don't want the killer running Network Manager on your computer, you may be tempted to uninstall. Do not! Uninstall will also uninstall the drivers needed for your ethernet, WiFi and possibly your Bluetooth as well. We heard that some users have communicated with Qualcomm and were able to coax, on their part, the necessary drivers comm without luggage "Killer". But you don't need to do it, either.

All you need to do is: (1) remove the 'Killer Network Manager' of the '"start up" folder of the start menu of Windows (under "programs") and (2) using MSConfig, uncheck "Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service V2" under the ' Services ' section. Then reboot and you're good to go. The killer Network Manager and his service will not work.

Moreover, the reason for which we did not chose this method, ourselves, is because we see one deserves that available Killer Network Manager so that we can block network traffic to select programs. Solution 1 converts this easy thing because the Ethernet bandwidth control can be quickly activated again if she is ever desired. And we're leaving it enabled for our WiFi.

    Best regards, David-EH

  • My Dell all-in-one 962 stopped printing all of a sudden. The error messages are that the computer cannot communicate with the printer.

My Dell 962 All In One Printer suddenly stopped to print. I get an error message that the computer cannot communicate with the printer. The error message suggests that I unplug and plug back the power plug and the USB cable to the printer and make sure that there are no restrictions of firewall to the printer. I did what was suggested and still no printing. I have resinstaled the printer from the CD software, I got with the computer and also installed the latest driver using the software of the software upgrade wizard.

and also installed the latest driver by using the Software Update Wizard software.

That would not have been the best idea... but it is unlikely that the cause of your immediate problem.

The next thread does not make much sense to me, but it describes a situation similar to what you described and the proposed solution is supposed to have worked.  Try it and see--> http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3528/t/19483019

I suspect that what really happens is that the driver has become corrupted.  In many cases, simply reinstall the driver is not fix things; you have to clean the old corrupt driver before installing the new.  Thus, it is more likely that the part "Uninstall" the related response is what is helping rather than playing with services... but go ahead and follow these directions, just in case.  In fact, I suggest that you run under first antimalware scanners before following the tips in the above link.

If I had not found the link above, that's what I would have suggested (whichrequires that you have Windows XP):

Often, but not always, the symptoms you describe are caused by a corrupt print job stuck in the queue or a damaged printer driver.  However before you clean things up, on general principles, that you can download, install, update and run full scans with each of these two free programs.

    MalwareBytes AntiMalware

    SUPERAntiSpyware

Use the free version, not the free trials of "pro" versions  Pay attention during installation uncheck any prechecked boxes that would install some additional third-party programs.

Do not run the scans at the same time.  Each scan will take a while.  Start one and go do a non-it chore.  Once the scan is finished, leave the program to deal with anything it finds.

Once done, you can keep or uninstall programs, or both.  If you keep SAS, I suggest to change its default setting does NOT automatically when Windows starts.

Uninstall all software from Dell to control panel > Add / Remove programs

Download Microsoft Fixit 50126 impression: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9662904

Close all running applications (anything with an icon on the taskbar).

Run the Fixit routine.  Note: The routine Fixit has two modes, light and complete.  It will run in full mode when you check the box "Reset the spooler to print on values."  This will remove all printers, so if you have any other printer installed, I recommend running the Fixit in full mode.  If you have other printers and you do not (necessarily) want to reinstall them, run the Fixit in light mode (box unchecked).  This may work anyway.  You must restart the computer after you run in full mode; you need not restart after the Chase mode.

After the Fixit has executed and you have restarted if necessary, make sure that the printer is disconnected from the computer and run the installation software.  You will be asked to connect the printer to a suitable place.  You can use the CD that came with the computer or download the software here (which is relatively hard to find, the claims of the main page of the 962 product support it cannot find the drivers)--> http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=R89490

No, you cannot scan from computer to the printer. You have to put original on the glass and you can use the HP scanner on computer software to scan and save a document/photo scanned on computer.

My question: do you have installed the software and driver on your computer yet? You should do this first.

    Hey @brommmmm,

One thing we know for sure is that your computer and the printer doesn't seem to like. I think that there are problems with your registry that are causing all these different errors, especially since the error log for the program installation continues to point to the registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\Install\ {BCDD692B-17 2D-440-9A1B-501C71D72CC8} for permissions problems. I have a little more suggestions to solve these problems in System.

Step 1: Uninstall your printer software and drivers

Step 2: Run the CCleaner on your computer to fix registry issues:

    CCleaner

Step 3: Unlock hidden Admin account:

    1. Open the display Start again by clicking the Windows start at the bottom of your computer screen icon or by selecting the Windows button in the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl key.
    2. Once the splash screen opens, type command prompt
    3. Once the result of the search for the command prompt appears, do a right click on it and "run as administrator"
    4. Once the command prompt opens type: net user administrator / Active: Yes and press ENTER.
    5. Then, restart your computer
    6. When your computer turns back on, you should be able to log in to the new administrator account that appears. This account will not have a password on it.
    7. If your computer will automatically connect to your normal spending users user account and log on to the administrator account.

    Step 4: Install printer:

    1. Once you are logged into the new account administrator download and run the installation of your printer: HP Deskjet F2400 all-in-One series Full Feature Software and Driver
    2. Start the installation of your printer.
    3. Once the printer installs successfully log on the administrator account and log in to your normal user account. The printer should now be installed on your normal user account.

Step 5: Disable the hidden Admin account:

    4. Once the command prompt opens type: net user administrator / active: No. and press ENTER.
    5. Then, restart your computer

Please respond and let me know if everything works now. Fingers crossed!

    (1) when I try to print, there is a mistake that the document cannot print.

    OR

    (2) when I try to print, the printer icon appears that the document will print, but nothing happens.  When I right click and open the Active printer, it shows that it is "printing", however the number of pages displayed is n/a.  After 2-3 minutes, the document simply disappears from the print screen, as if it printed.

I went through the troubleshooting steps on my hp PC help & support, I have read the forums for hours and tried various fixes, I went through the center of solutions hp printer troubleshooting steps...

The final diagnosis is that the computer is unable to 'find' the printer. Here is some additional information:

I was able to print occasionally during the troubleshooting process (see below for more information)

All the drivers are up to date.

Computer and the printer are connected to the same network wireless in my house.

Whenever I have manually print the "HP Network Configuration Page," it shows that the printer is "ready".

    Windows defender is OFF

    The Windows Firewall is DISABLED

3rd party firewall Vipre has been RUNNING, with the same results to be

What follows can offer anyone a clue as to the problem:

Four times during this process of troubleshooting, I completely uninstalled printer and then reinstalled using the updated driver and instructions on the hp Web site.

Whenever during the installation process, the computer does not find the printer, and I have to manually enter the IP address of the printer.  Then, the computer does not find the printer, and the installation continues.  Until he comes to the end, when it is completed at 98%. Then, I get a message:

"Rediscovery printer detected problems. Maybe your PC is not able to track changes in the online status of your printer. If you use firewall software, make sure the port UDP 427 is unblocked from your printer at 192.168.0.5 for your PC. To resolve the problem, try to feed your printer market. »

(of course checked summer port and the printer power is turned and the...) I followed all steps completely).

Then, I give myself a choice or continue installing the software without connecting to the printer, or to continue with the installation of the printer.

When I tried the first choice, install the software without the printer, then I went back later to install the printer. During the installation of the printer, I'm at the same point at 98%, with the same message.

I also tried to install the printer in any case and it ends up all right, and then the printer worked for a day or two. But after a day or two, I'll be once more cannot print, and I will either receive the error message, otherwise it is not only print (SEE the BEGINNING OF THIS POST).

I've tried everything I know to do and no message forum or troubleshooting is now offering me any new information.

    Can you help me???

Have you tried the 'updates' on this page?  There is a couple who look like they would help.
