  OK, I managed to set up one of my flash drives to use readyboost and now I sorta need help with the other. When I go to the section of readyboost on properties of my flash drive it says "a cache already exists. Please remove this cache since this device before creating a cache on this device. The flash drive is empty, there is nothing in the record to the flash drive. However when I go to properties it says it has 100 MB of space that does not appear in the folder. Its a SanDisk Cruzer 4 GB. Can someone help me with this please.

  can I use my 1 TB WD external hard drive (fat32) for readyboost... I have win 7 home premium (64-bit) & 2 GB of RAM right now I get a message saying that this device (1 TB drive) cannot be used for readyboost... but I can easily use readyboost when I insert my 4GB kingston USB...

  To see the true performance increases you'd be better by upgrading the amount of RAM you have. I am surprised that you have Windows 64 bit with only 2 GB of RAM...

• Pavilion dv6000 PCMCIA use

  I have the machine in the subject, with an Intel core duo processor and upgraded to Win7. The upgrade was very good so it's performance, I think it could be better. In the near future I'll replace the hard drive with an ssd.

  This laptop has a PCMCIA slot I used for nothing, so... Is there a particularly good recommended card which would contribute to this pavilion perform better or provide a useful feature?

  In recent days, gather more information and looking for options, that's what I found:

  * The slot is actually a form of 54mm Expresscard, but accepts the small 34mm; It is good because it allows a 32-bit data transfer faster than standard PCMCIA, which was 16-bit. It is important to know what protocol is used to map and avoid USB one, because it is the slowest.

  * There are ExpressCard cards for almost any kind of connection with various functions, which include TV tuners, video capture, card readers, etc.

  * A card Expresscard SSD can be used for the storage or Readyboost (up to 32 GB per connection). Info Windows, Readyboost works as if have one more big main disk with more space used for the process. Supposedly you can use a card Expresscard SSD OS drive, leaving the disk for storage; Keep in mind that Windows 7 to 80 GB more.

  This is very interesting, and what you find is helpful, unless you are interested in improving the performance, like me. Unfortunately, a memory or a storage Expresscard is one of the most expensive, they are more expensive than a real SSD; unless it uses the USB protocol, but it is too slow.

  ReadyBoost is limited to 32 GB, using a card Expresscard apparently is so logical. But Windows says that if you have a real SSD as drive, he can not use Readyboost. so, at best, a mixed use with a moderate performance increase. Given that some SSD brands are already less than $1 / GB, what would be the best use for your money?

  I thought that Windows saw an Expresscard memory as more ram, but I found no information about this use; I'll ask Microsoft and suggest that an update of Windows provides for such use. Maybe it's not possible, because the RAM sticks have specific operations, but people mix sticks, and sometimes they work. However, it should be a matter of software and, perhaps, a BIOS update that would accept years SSD or sustainable Expresscard, as RAM memory. For me, it would be the best solution for increased performance; Imagine, our 4 GB machines, suddenly jump 36 GB!

  Thus so 2 options:

  * Unless Microsoft or HP provides updates for function of ram, the best option for the money would be to replace the hard drive with the desired SSD and use Expresscard housing for something else.

  Or

  * If you don't want to do a "deep" surgery, get a 32 GB Expresscard with the faster protocol and use with Readyboost.
