Using SSI compared to Dreamweaver library items.

Murray, who was told to SSI - Server Side Includes in another thread. But when I go to one of the books I have on Dreamweaver, the author says that my hosting company like SSI much because it uses more system resources. In response to this, Dreamweaver creates library items.

Is there a reason to choose one method over the other?

Murray - is there a reason didn't you recommend library Dreamweaver elements for common components across many pages?

Thank you

Certainly, but completely irrelevant. A site really dynmaic with PHP and MySQL
for example, we even more resources, but after all that is a
Server is for. If the server goes down on his knees just because of a
SSI little or some scripts then you should change the host.

Server processors need something to do. Static HTML pages are boring. ;-)

SSI and similar techniques are processed on the server, while the elements of lib
more or less a few replacements are made in DW. If you change something,
you will need to download subject pages again, while with SSI you just downloaded
a single file that has been modified and the server takes care of the rest. Of course
These side Server includes / replacements occur on every single request,
but as said - that's what a server is for. You pay for it, you can use it.

    Hello
Working with CC Dreamweaver library items was easy before. Now, all of a sudden, something wrong, and I hope that someone has the solution. Example:
I select a piece of a document, click on the button new item of library (in the active tab) - a new library item is done, but it skips the part where I make a name just automatically names Untitled1, etc. 2. Right click and rename then is impossible (?).
And make a library from scratch item is the same - DW automatically gives him a name of file Untitled 1, 2 etc. and name change is impossible.
What's happening on Earth? Please notify

The 'Name' column appears before the column 'Size' in the active panel.

In your video, I could see that the name column is reduced. Please, expand it to display the name of the library item and edition/name it.

  • Alternative to Dreamweaver for Incontext Editing library items? How to change the similar elements?

I have a handful of items in the library that I use on my site to make it easy to update content repeated, for instance on every page there is direct contact.  These are the same on every page, so I used a library item to quickly update all the pages, when a change needs to be done.

However, I have now started to use InContext Editing.  When I change the contact information on one page... it is not updated the rest of the pages.  Then, I went in the library item itself and tried to do as an editable region, but this isn't an option.

I am a newbie to DW so any help would be greatly appreciated.  Can anyone suggest a technique in which I can update replicated bits of content on the entire site using ice?

    See you soon

Sorry but there is no function like this available via InContext Editing.

Tell us - you are the person using InContext Editing, or did you do that for your client?  If the first, then you would do well to drop the items in the library in favor side Server includes.  You know about them?

  • Editing library items

After editing a library item and update all files and templates that use it locally, I do so have to download all these files and templates? Is there an easier way to update the remote site with the changes?

    > After editing a library item and update all files and models which
    > use
    > It locally, I do so have to download all these files and templates?

The two items in library * and * models only affect local files. After changing
and save either, then you need to download all the files that have been
affected by this change. None of these have a use outside the
Dreamweaver (e.g. on your server), except to the share with someone
on the other. So, yes - you must download local files that have been changed.

    > Is there
    > an easier way to update the remote site with the changes?

Yes - use-SSI. Those are what you think-
change a file, a download file and all the files on the server that make reference to
This file to reflect the change. Use of DW Help F1 and Google to learn more
    on them.

  • Trouble with library items not updated

I built a site in DW CS4 using a library item to the content of the header and footer. The content of the footer has remained constant, but there is a countdown in the header which should be updated periodically, which I was able to do successfully in DW CS4. I just upgraded my computer Windows 8.1 and DW CC (worm 2014.1.1 build 6981) and update the library for the header item is more correctly. I seconded the original header element library and he again with a new title and it re-introduced with the Insert on the active Panel button.

After inserting my code looks like this:

    < body >

    < div class = 'wrapper' >

    <!-#BeginLibraryItem "/ Library/header2.lbi"-->

    < header >

<!-some code with all tags properly closed->

    <!-#EndLibraryItem->

    <!-possibly some more...-> content

    < / header >

I also had to remove an extra header tag that DW adds after the end of the library item, which was not part of my original code, when I insert the library item. Even move my < header > tag outside the library item does not make a difference by updating the pages. Is there a reason, he adds the extra header tag and that is also why it is not up-to-date pages? Help, please!

Library items must contain valid code. The problem is almost certainly due to the fact that you have an opening

tag, but not a closing one. Dreamweaver CS4 would not be opposed to opening
tag because it does not support HTML 5. CC of Dreamweaver does, where the problem.

The simple way to solve this problem is to remove the

opening score from your library item, and move it to the parent page.

Your page will now be how a complete section of

and library item will also complete items. That will certainly solve the problem of update library item.

  • View Design view library items

When working on library items in Dreamweaver is possible to connect temporarily for CSS files, they will be eventually connected to when they are placed on the home page.

It is useful sometimes to see items from the library into design mode. I know that you can place the CSS link in the library item code page, then delete it before you post my question is the following.

Can I combine all items in library in the world to my CSS file without putting the

    " < link href ="... /... ' / css/atoz.css "rel ="stylesheet"type =" text/css"/ >

code in each element of the library?

So as I said please visit all library items (in Dreamweaver) with the style sheet x.css for example?

When I'm working on a library item in Dreamweaver there any CSS style because it is not attached to a style sheet.

What I want to do is view library items in Dreamweaver design view and not have several links to the CSS file in the final document.

Take a look at the function of design time style sheet (Subcommittee) in DW, that was created for this purpose.

    http://help.Adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/CS/using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7e17a.h tml

Subcommittee means you can tell DW to open an item from the library in Design view and look at with the style CSS applied as if the to the CSS file was present.

If you get the best of both worlds:

    (1) display an item .lbi file entirely style library in Design view

    (2) no temporary tags (as a solution when editing), which must be deleted later

  • How to convert the side Server includes in the library items in DW CS4? Also change page website to .html .shtml files?

I inherited our Web site created in DW with server side includes the column header, footer and navigation.  I don't know that anything on the server side includes.  I have a hosting company for the online site.  I don't know what that is a 'local web server' and did not have a set on toward the top on my computer - I know.

I want to remove the server side includes the code <!-virtual = "" / head.htm #include '-> out of the body of the pages of the site and insert the code for the server side includes (the footer, header and nav). "  But I also want to be able to continue to make global changes to these files.

Can I convert a server side includes the elements of library, and if so, how do I do this?  I'm still not real familiar with library items, but I know that I can make changes to their topic and make them take effect globally within the site.

And can I change all of the web pages that are now all appointed to .html .shtml.  And can I change the names of files in the window of the local files in DW?

Thanks, I'm trying to achieve its manageable site for my level of knowledge in DW.

Instead of dumbing down of the website which apparently works, why don't improve you your skill set and get warm & fuzzy with Server-Side Includes?

Installation of Apache on a Windows computer will take you about 10 minutes.

    http://www.wampserver.com/en/

SSIs are much more effective than the library items.  Lilies require you to republish the entire site whenever you change an element.  SSIs fill changes on the side server so that you don't need to republish the entire site whenever you edit & publish a SSI.  On larger sites, it is a huge time saver.

Rename to .html .shtml files is not necessary to use library items. In fact, you can use SSIs and Lily on the same .shtml pages if you wish.

  • Update library items are slowing down for great site

    Hello

I'm working on a large site (several thousands of static pages). A large part of it is old and was created and edited in BBedit. We have now several "subsites" that were created by a provider using templates and library items in Dreamweaver. These subsites are the root of the main site and the folder templates exist at the same level as the root of the subsites. Not very clear? Here is an example.

HTML is the root of our entire domain and is the site which I've set in Dreamweaver
/ html/templates/contain all models for all subsites
/ html/ukaliq/is 'root' for one of the sections

Here's my problem. When we want to change a model or a library item, its usually not site wide. It generally refers to one of the sections, but Dreamweaver wants to check the entire site for cases where this template or library element is used. It takes an unbearably long time. I know that it is used only in the folder "ukaliq" but I can't tell Dreamweaver to only check this folder. I can? I tried to create a new site for each of the sections, but since they are not really subsites, it creates problems. These are: templates do not appear as part of the site (they have a higher level) and the subsite is really just one distinct and different from the main site. It cannot exist without links and the content of the main site. The root is not really root.

I can tell Dreamweaver to the only control of library items and references to models in a single folder?

    Thank you!

Thanks for the reply. I got scared that it would come to that.

  • Replace the library with another library item

I created a new footer which is used as a component of the library throughout my site and I would like to replace the old library with the new item. I know that I could copy the code of the new element of the library in the former, but I would have preferred to keep the old file even. This kind of thing was easy in GoLive, is there a way to do this in DreamWeaver?

    more-simple
the library folder of the files, right-click on the old .lbi Panel dw and
Rename it to something like filename_old12 - 08.lbi
Click on no to any update
Then rename the exact file that former name did the new library item.
-> Then dw menu edit-> library-> pages of updated items

  • blanks around the library items

    Hello
I have a problem annoying with DW 8.0.2 for Mac OS X. whenever I update a library item that is framed by spaces in my code, white around it will fade, whenever I have apply the changes to all the pages containing the library item. For example, the code looks like this before the update:

    ... "Please <!-#BeginLibraryItem" / Library/register_here.lbi "--> < a href ="... /... / cgi-bin/UMapps/register.pl "> here < /a > <!-#EndLibraryItem > - to get..."

    and as this then:

    ... "Please <!-#BeginLibraryItem" / Library/register_here.lbi "--> < a href ="... /... / cgi-bin/UMapps/register.pl "> here < /a > <!-#EndLibraryItem > - to get..."

Now the spaces around the library item disappeared...

I could include spaces in the library item, but that would prevent me from using it in a context like this:

    ... "All other customers please <!-#BeginLibraryItem" / Library/register_here.lbi "--> < a href ="... /.. / cgi-bin/UMapps/register.pl "> register < /a > <!-#EndLibraryItem > - here."

Is this a bug, or y at - it means to DW to keep spaces?
    Thanks in advance!

    Korbinian

I would, if Server Side Includes were not considered a security problem by our (admittedly a bit paranoid) sysop...
Apart from this, the possibility of using library items is one of the reasons why I use Dreamweaver and I could be
wrong, but I don't remember having this problem using version 6 (which had other bugs, that's why I've updated...)

Regarding design flaws: put several library items like these on a line in a paragraph with an alignment justified, and you will get the lines that contain a word at the beginning of the line, a comma and a single word ending in line, according to the
width of the browser window, which may not be a big deal, but can be easily avoided by not using not s...

Oh well, thanks for your suggestions anyway! I think I'll have to go with the s for now...

    Quote:
    Posted by: newsgroup user
A much better work around would be to not use all the elements of library - replace
their side includes server and then you won't have to worry about this.

    > Apart from the obvious flaws, that everywhere where a * break
    > space *.
    > should be?

    Who would those be?

  • Library items: desperate!

I scoured the web, help documents and everything else for several consecutive hours, now, and if I don't get help soon, I could just go crazy.

Shading (go to 'the problem' If you don't sympathize):
I was to make a site with a text editor, and I decided I really needed a way to include the HTML common in multiple pages; you know, like when all of the pages use the same banner, it is a great idea to be able to just change a banner in format and have the banner update for throughout the site. So, I saw things in Dreamweaver library as the ideal solution. So, a few hundred dollars later, I owned Dreamweaver CS4. It was not easy, but I decided that I really need this feature.

    This brings us to

    The problem:
Well, then I understood how to create library items (this isn't rocket science) and it's all good.
The problem is when I go to insert a library HTML element in an HTML page.

When I try to insert a library item in the code, for example, let's say something like this:

    < p >
(I want to insert it here)
    < /p >

Instead of put in within the < p > tag that you (or at least I) imagine, it comes out like this:

    < p >
    < /p > (ELEMENT of LIBRARY of CODE HERE) < p > < / p >

To me, it looks like library items simply refuse to be nested in the HTML tags.
The reason that this happens is totally beyond me, and it destroyed my attempts to put a library item inside my Web page, which seems completely the device of the network of libraries. After all, what is HTML code when you can't put it in your page!

For another example, see this spooky before and after:

    < p >
    < span >
(I'm trying to insert the item of library here)
    </span >
    < /p >

    It gives me:

    < p >
    < span >
    </span > < / p >
    (CODE OF THE LIBRARY HERE)
    < p > < span > < / span >
    < /p >

So please, if you have a glimpse as to why this might be happening, please share.
    Thanks for reading,
    -Chase

Alan, thanks for your post man.

I think that I set it for the time being.
In my view, it was to put things a

tag that belong there, so now I feel stupid.
Delete even if I still have huge problems with the way in which the elements of library and around the screw with the white space around them without good reason, and worse yet, now I'm having a nightmare connecting relative. This isn't the "practical" solution I was hoping it would be.
    Thanks for the help anyway.
