Using URL's to help chm files

I look at using RoboHelp to produce files/Guides, help and training manuals at the risk of eliminating the repetative job and keep control of the management of versions. However, our application is a J2EE product based on an ASP model can produce us a separate site for the Robohelp-generated help files and have context sensitive help in the application to open a URL in the help via a reference tag files.
That is to say the application has a code for example. entitled "Decree of creation", how would it be transmitted to the files in Robohelp to make appear the right pages?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome to the forum.

This is not a web application hosted on a server? If so I don't think you want to generate a CHM file help, good format would be WebHelp. Why? See the topic below that explains why CHM files do not work on a server without hacking the registry, your clients might not appreciate.

If you then decide to go with WebHelp there are a few topics on my site about the appeal of this form of assistance.

  • executable and help .chm file

I am using a .chm help file to provide context-sensitive help for some VI and control in my application running. I put the path of the .chm file in the path of the help of dialog of the VI documentation and of certain typedefs of control as well as the tag help. Everything works correctly when you run in Labview but when I create an executable file and run it, I get inconsistent results. Some controls to access the help file (question mark in the context help window is blue) while others do not (question mark is grayed out).

How is access to a .chm help file is incompatible in the executable it all works perfectly in operation?

My help .chm file is loaded in my project. I'm using Labview 2011 64 bits.

I rebuilt the application LabVIEW 2013 and did some tests to see if I can recreate the problem.  I can't.  I see the problem only in the executable file that you sent me.  When you build an executable file, however, and want to deploy to the target, you will want to use paths stripped in context help.  The method that I used to do this is as follows:

To create a static reference of VI and use a relative path to set the path to each control.  When I use this method and then include the help files in my executable, I can change the path to the file for the Type Defs programmatically.  This seems to be a better way of defining the type defs, so that the path will be relative whenever respective executable file and its data directory are located.

  • Script error when opening my CHM file

    Hello, everyone.

I'm trying to embed a Youtube video in one of the subjects of my CHM file.

It was working perfectly until now, but now it displays a script error whenever I open it.

I use Robohelp 9 and I want to export using Microsoft HTML Help (CHM file).

    Below, the message displayed:

    CHM file - script error.PNG

I know not how to fix it, because I can not download videos directly to the topic (rules of the company), I have to incorporate all of them. I don't know what this is URL refers to.

I will be happy if you can help me to solve it. Thanks in advance!

The error comes from youtube (ytimg.com) and it seems that YouTube is at fault. You can include an iFrame to the entire youtube page instead of using the YouTube embed code?

  • Why can't I open some chm files?

I have several programs that use for help .chm files. Some of them work, but some do not. Weirder still, for a .chm file (Bluebeam) program works, but others have not. The seller insists that there is a problem with Windows. The size of the file does not seem to make a difference.

I just ran regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx in command-line high (following a suggestion on the web), and he says that he succeeded. No change, still impossible to open chm files.

I'm shocked the third-party application that I showed could not - as it is not in Windows components as far as I KNOW.  Which leads me to think that the "seller" you mentioned is incorrect.

I would suggest copy those files to another computer, you can access and try to view it.  Perhaps with an OS older, says the 'seller' should be able to open them.

  • The application requires two 2 clicks to launch help CHM

I have developed a (popup) online help CHM file for integration in a desktop application. The help does not open when you first click the 'HELP' button in the application. When you click on it a second time, it opens as expected.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

If the CHM works as expected, the problem is in the way in which your application invokes help. Your developers will need to consider the question.

  • Is it possible to change the icon associated with a .chm file?

RoboHelp HTML v11 generating a Microsoft HTML help (.chm file)

Marketing wants our brand image on the icon that is displayed for a file .chm (not the usual page with a yellow question mark).

Is there a setting to change the associated image to the .chm file? (I don't want the image to aid in our software). They want to distribute files .chm separately, but our brand image to this topic.

    Hello

To my knowledge, this icon is from the Microsoft HTML Help Viewer application. It is not anyway I never knew of the change. Heck, even within the Microsoft HTML Help file when you present the CHM, you have two custom buttons that you can activate. And you cannot customize even those.

Sorry, but those are the breaks.

  • Chm file met poster "HTML help" on the title instead of the name of the window bar

Chm file met poster "HTML help" on the title instead of the name of the window bar.

I tried several ways such as:

    1. modify the > project name settings and also set the language to English (United States).

    2. check the name of the title in the .hhp file

    3. use the window while compling.

    4 Robohelp language settings.

    5. also uninstalled and reinstalled robophelp.

    But nothing helps

Title name appear correctly if the same project is compiled on another machine.

When the code in the high hydrostatic pressure and the locale on a correspondence of PC, the title OK is displayed. Or the other way around is also worth the title help is displayed in the language specified in the project IF (and only if) the regional settings of the computer matches the language. Otherwise, the "HTML Help" is displayed.

    Hope this helps.

  • Use of underscores in names of chm file

    Hello world

I fell recently on what follows as a result of a web search...

    Location

    http://alist.Adobe.co.UK/DevNet/RoboHelp/articles/merged_help_06.html

Potential problem with merged projects highlight

    "CHM filenames.
Avoid using underscore traits, the symbol of the hash and etc. in the names of the CHM files that you create. They have been found to cause problems in merger Microsoft HTML help. Stick with alphanumeric characters and no spaces. »

Someone at - he met of the associated problems and if so what exactly?

I am usually inclined to believe that underscores in a filename is a safe practice?

If Pete said traits of underscore should not cause a problem, they shouldn't.

That said, with Colum and Craig having this experience, it seems that it could be a specific problem of RoboHelp. It could also be a historical thing, who knows?

If you have a burning desire to use underscores, I'd say go ahead, but don't forget this thread if you don't hit problems. If not there is not need to use, then users of RoboHelp I suggested that it might be something best avoided.

Do not forget that the issue is only with the merged CHMS too.

  • Hyperlink to the child CHM file

    Hello

It is the first time that I use this community, so please forgive me if I'm not clear enough in the description of my problem.

I work with one large project, where I imported other projects on (as chm files)

    sd1.jpg

I would like to make a link to the imported files, but the result is not impressive!

I tried to do this in several ways.
When I use the sd2.jpg -button I can't find any link URL leading to my project.
Then I tried using drag & drop in the project manager and a link appeared. When I click on it within HR it seems to work, but when I did the Microsoft HTML Help file it no longer works?

Someone please tell me what's wrong?

    Thanks in advance

Hello Helen and welcome to the forum.

Your problem seems that you default your project Source presentation unique value other than Microsoft HTML Help. Go to your pod submission of single Source, right-click on the Microsoft HTML Help layout and select set as main page layout . The next time you link, you will see a remote subject option (see below). This allows to select CHM and choose the topic in this one.

  • Links between .chm files

I knew I'd be back with a situation. When last I posted, there is while testing the hlp to chm conversion, about three months I had multiple .chms talk to each other. It was then, this is now. After transfer to new versions of help files and doing CHMS for real, I can't get links from one file to the other to work. (The merged TOC and index, however, excellent work.) I repeated the steps I did the first time and discussed again the many posts here on the subject of external links. Here's what I did:

    • Merges the files into the project main table of contents, and then deleted the Scriptures of fusion and merges again just to see if it would help
    • Compiling all CHMS in the SSL folder for the main project
    • Verified that all CHMS are in baggage files
    • Check that the files section merged into the main project of hhp lists only file chm with no path names
    • Update of the main project in MS Help Workshop after merge (I read that you have to do somewhere in the notes from Adobe)
    • None of the chm files have special characters or underscores in their names
    • Deleted and regenerated the master of the project files FPC and hhp
    • Sub-CHMS in the master links seem to be coded correctly with no specific location (example: winexp.chm::/Award_Year_g.htm)

These are large files with a lot of topics, but they are not mechanically complex. I use 7 HTML HR. What I'm missing here?

    Thank you

    Beth

    Hi, Beth,

If you don't want to post the URL, you can send me a message through this site private.

The error message may indicate that you do not have the quite exact link syntax. For example, if your subjects are stored in the subfolders in the target help file, your hyperlinks need account for this. Thus, a typical hyperlink might look like this:

Click here to see another topic

To make sure that you specify exactly the track information:

    1. Open the target help file.
    2. Display the required topic.
    3. Right-click and then on the shortcut menu, select Properties.

In the property sheet that results, you can copy the path out of the address field information and adjust if necessary.

  • Should I add the .jpg files to HTML Help topic-file list?

My help topics embed images. These image files should be included in the .chm file, or must I include in my package file separately?

    Hello

    What program do you use?

Your question of Windows is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited to the msdn forums. You can follow the link to your question:

  • 8 64-bit Windows cannot open chm files

    Hello

I have a user who cannot view help files .chm on their 64-bit of Windows 8 computers. Here are the help files that reside on the local hard drive (C:\Program Files\...) and NOT on a server share. At the opening of these (double clicking the .chm file or opening with F1 in the application), they are displayed with a message "Navigation to the webpage was canceled".
This seems to be the same problem that tons of people have on their files downloaded .chm or shared, but for this one user is for all local .chm files.
    I tried the things:
    1. HHReg using asks to move the MaxAllowedZone to 2 (which I don't expect to have an effect since it is the LOCAL files that don't work)
    2. HHReg application using Add the path to the .chm for the UrlAllowList entry file.
To further complicate things, my own 64-bit of Windows 8 machine can open files .chm perfectly without any problems. Granted, I'm a software developer so I have a ton of programs installed (including the HTMLHelp Workshop) which can be fix this problem for me? I don't really know why it works for me and not for the single user.
    So, anyone have any ideas?

The only thing that worked for me was to uncheck "always ask... at the opening of this file... "When you first open the file. Subsequently, the popup no longer appears, and you can read the content of the CHM file.

  • In RoboHelp 2015, are there changes with regard to the CHM files?

I would like to know if there is a significant change for CHM files.

The only option that I use for output is Microsoft HTML Help to generate CHM files. I can't use other (WebHelp and etc.).

Well, I use the demo version of HR 2015 but I did not notice a significant change regarding the CHM files.

The dynamic filter is not applied to it. I am currently using RoboHelp 9, so I ask you to these changes because I'm thinking that if it's worth changing HR 2015, because I use the output HTML, I only generate CHM files.

I am trying to compare the two versions and I try to note their differences, but if you know some that it would be useful for me.

Sorry if I make mistakes, because English is not my mother tongue. Thanks in advance!

    Hello, Camila

Your English is very good! Yes, dynamic content filtering is only available with the latest reactive HTML5. Available for CHM output functions are mainly dictated by Microsoft because the format of HTML (.chm) help is their owner specification.

RoboHelp has added a few things on top of the base CHM (skins for CHMS, glossary and browse sequences, etc.), but you won't find many features more modern in CHMS because Microsoft has continued to develop a long time ago.

That said, while the CHM format may not have a lot of bells and whistles that you hope to, the new 2015 RoboHelp has many other advantages that make it easier create and justify an upgrade.

  • Included in unused files. CHM file

    Hello

Please do someone can shine some light on why when I run using HTML Assistant ssl for a table of specific contents, every single image and the subject of my project file are included?

Bottom line, it's that I need only some topics of my project file to build the help a.chm file which should be about 7 MB on the disk, but fate to 30 MB. I used a tool for compiling (FAR) to * which continues and it appears as all the images and other subjects of the project that is not necessary for the. Chm file are included. It's a real embarrassment, because it sure. Chm must be less than 10 MB.

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Greg

It has always been the case that with WebHelp and CHMS that all topics are included in a version unless excluded by using a construction tag.

In more recent versions, there is an option to exclude topics not referenced. If you select it will exclude any subject which is not in the table of contents or Index and does not all links of the other headings. The only way that subjects would find if this option was checked not to would be by a search.

In your case the solution the cleaner would probably create a construction tag Exclude and then apply an expression of construction only includes topics not exclude tag.

That is covered in the help online. Come if you need assistance.
