Variable/conditional Actions and a table of contents slide

The Adobe eLearning Summit, I sat in class Advanced Action Joe and Lily, and I saw how we could add a checkmark (or indicator) to a table of contents slide.  I should take better notes, because I'm working on it and not get anywhere.  My logic may be simple.  So here's what I did.

(1) I have created a user for Chapter 1 (v_chap1) variable and set it to 0.

(2) on the 3 blades that make up chapter 1, I have an exit Action on where v_chap1 is incremented by 1.

(3) on the Table of content slide, I have a hidden check box (named: check mark).

(4) the box is controlled by a conditional action where if v_chap1 = 3, then show the check mark.

Of course, it did not work.  I place the variable in a text on the blade of my OCD caption, to see if he could increase and it is not, it remains at 0.  So basically I'm stuck at step 2.

Any help would be appreciated.  I'm on: v6.0.1.204

It's crazy to get me to explain as well advanced and shared actions within an hour. Have a 6 hour workshop ready where this kind of use case is one of the subjects, but never have the opportunity to do so. Too bad...

Begin to wonder if online training would attract enough participants? Suppose not.

Preparation of a book of recipes for advanced actions, and this will certainly be one of these use cases. Problem is not the content but the format of the book and distribution, this is where I'm totally stuck.

I have this model TOC ready for 6 and 7, but I offer it for free any more as I did for CP5 and 5.5.

Take a look on: http://blog.lilybiri.com/template-for-reusing-script

And my blog has a lot of use cases.

Some tips: never use an action on the release, see: http://blog.lilybiri.com/events-and-advanced-actions

  • Table of contents slide, click and nearby

    Hey there!

I use 7 Captivate and I want to know if there is a parameter or a way to close the table of content panel when you click on a slide that contains it?

So basically, I would like to open it, click the slide of my favorite, and then closed content slides table. Is this possible? Thank you!

Lieve is correct that you can not use by clicking on the item in the table of contents as an event to close the table of contents.

However. as you jump to a slide, you CAN use the on slide enter this slide to trigger an action to close the table of contents.

  • Page numbering and the Table of contents

I have a book containing 23 document files. Document files contain the page numbers in the footer.

One of the document file is a generated table of contents (TOC). Unfortunately, the generated page

the number in the table of contents do not match the numbering of the pages in the files. Here are the details:

    • The title page, in a file by itself, is not numbered
    • The frontmatter, distributed in five cases use lowercase Roman (i - xvi)
    • The body of the text in the remaining 17 files is digital (1-243)
    • The generated TOC uses cardinal numbers of the book as a whole. For example,.
Chapter I is numbered correctly in the footer from page 1. However, he is listed in the table of contents
as starting on page 19, because this is the file real 19th in the book. I put the document numbering
This file from 1 properties and properties of Page numbering for the book as a whole to
      be "continue."
    • The style of the table of contents entries is correct. In other words, the frontmatter uses a tiny Roman and the
      chapters use Numeric

I tried to regenerate the table of contents, but this did not help.

Does anyone have suggestions on what is the way prescribed to do?

OK, I continued to read and this is what I found:

Set the numbering style in the document, and not in the book that we told you. Format > Document > numbering. Choose Arabic or digital. Repeat for the various chapters.

Save and close the chapters. In the book file, click with the right button on each chapter and choose Configure XXX. This is where tell you the book to continue the page numbering or restart at the 1.

Once this is done, update your address. From there, if there are issues, we rely on the logic of the Fm we use every day, and each of us can help you solve.

  • How can I have items in my favorites and my Table of contents?

I want 1 and 2 headings in my table of contents and 1-7 to my favorites. I tried to do a second table of contents with headers 1-7, but even if I chose nothing, it updated my original OCD I want.

Make first a second style of table of contents. For the table of contents which is conform bookmarks enable create PDF bookmarks, but the framework with these outside the cropped page.

  • Is it possible to create a unique table of contents slides?

I've got 1 quiz that consists of 6 different videos and accompaniment of groups of questions. Is it possible to create a slide in which I could link to each slide, instead of next to the head of reading and always visible?

I would like to be able to have a Table of contents on each slide that would lead to this slide, then the quiz would be separated into "Module 1 - video, 1-Questions, Module 2 - video Module, Module 2 - issues, etc., etc.

    Is this possible with Cp5.5?

Yes it is possible, but there are a few wrinkles that you work.

    1. If you jump to a slide in menu after visiting one or several slides of quiz, you must make sure that your slide menu is still under quiz, because if at any time your username happens to go to a slide away from quiz (what Captivate consider 'the quiz') then Captivate locks the quiz at this point and your username cannot continue to respond the questions.  To work around this problem, you just need to make sure you that there is an interactive object in the menu drag or seizure which relates to the quiz as an object has received.  Which will extend the scope of quiz to include the menu slide.
    2. Even if you split your quiz module upward into sections, the extent of the Captivate is concerned, it's just a great quiz.  If your Quiz results slide reports will not display your segmentation in the form of separate results. There are ways that you can get (fudge) this with variables and advanced Actions.  Check out the Lilybiri blog for more details.
  • Problem using a conditional branch and routing table

    Hello world

I need to check the indicator of payload of my entry, depends on that I have to call one another operational branch for each conditional branch.

For example: if my flag is 'E', then I have to call 2 different business services still have 2 different business services.
If I use the routing table, I can't call operational management in it.

I tried to skip logic and I get the following error: [BranchNode1] one branch conditional node specifies an invalid xpath: an error has been reported to compile the XPath: except for XQuery

    Can someone help me.

Ok. With little understanding of your scenario, I guess you will call the same set of services on the basis of the IF and ELSE, but their internal processing would be different.

    What you can do is-

Proxy main - if-> Proxy (local transport WSDL based)--> operational connection
    | - other---> Proxy B (WSDL based transport)--> operational connection

    To develop-

Main proxy's proxy that would receive applications from the outside world. Using conditional branches, route the incoming request to either A proxy or A of the b. Proxy Proxy and Proxy B will be based on the same WSDL (WSDL according to type of proxy) and their transport must be selected as 'local' to keep them invisible to the outside world. Proxy now A and B of Proxy, you can have operational branch and provide the implementation you want.

  • Variables in the table of contents, glossary and Index

RoboHelp can use variables in the table of contents, glossary and Index.
My project needs variables both in terms and definitions (glossary and Index).

    Hi OLH

That is right. But who knows what will happen in the next version. Currently you can use conditional tags for the table of contents and Index, but not of variables. From a development perspective, there are a lot of problems with the help of the variables of table of contents, glossary and Index, it is not as simple as adding variables to the content of the main .htm file. But it would be a great improvement for the next version.

Don't forget to submit an enhancement request and play your part by Adobe to aware of these issues.

  • RH7 topics in the table of contents report?

I have a project that has 11 different layouts: 2 go to WebHelp, 9 go to Word, with the content variable determined by the two tables of contents and conditional build tags. The customer wants minor changes to a few topics in the Word output. The fastest way is to edit Word documents and source files separately, due to the time it takes to generate a new output in Word and then reformat the content to make it good.
Is there an easy way to know about a particular topic, which ToC (or presentation) he appears in? variants of 114 subjects x 11 ToC = a lot of lists to cross-check!

I just discovered a partially useful answer.
In the list of topics RH7, it shows a column called "name of the table of contents. Drag this column as wide as possible, and you can see all the tables of contents appearing in the heading.
After changing topics, I click the Date header to sort by date so that the latest changes appear at the top. Then I see what table of contents that they are, in a view. All what I need now is to print it. I guess there is always a 'Print Screen'!

  • Captivate 9 just all my conditional actions converted to standard actions

This isn't a problem converting 8 Captivate. I spent several hours this morning, creating conditional actions and by assigning them to the learning map that I create in Captivate 9. I save the file several times along the way and also at the end.

Then, I went to lunch and attended a meeting. When I got home and has reopened the case in order to duplicate and modify the existing conditional actions, I found that they were converted to standard actions, and my settings of variables and expressions had been dropped.

I have not a screenshot of what it is supposed to look like - these are actions "and then" which were associated with the first condition. The second condition and all the "else" statements have been abandoned.

I had to have this ready to present to my boss before the end of the day--and I would have, if I didn't all start again. And how do you know if that this never happens again?  ARGH!

SOMEONE HAS THAT HAPPEN, AND IS THERE A SOLUTION?

    Standard Actions graphic.png

No, they have not installed the patch for 9.0.1.320 nor the 9.0.0.230 fix. You are always on the first version that had this bug, resolved by a hotfix released shortly after the first version. This patch is now included in the patch you need to install as soon as POSSIBLE.

  • RHCL do not pick up to the table of contents or index

    Hello

We used RoboHTML 9.0.2 for our documentation. We connecting to our legacy word documents and generate webhelp from those. It works very well.

We do not seek to the script process. We try to use RHCL from the command line to update the webhelp every night. The problem is that the index and the table of contents is not included in the generated file.

I created a quick test with all our normal parameters project, and it works very well from the GUI of RoboHTML. When I indicated that I wanted to import the table of contents and the index of the working paper, I was asked to enter a new name for each. So for the Index, I have an empty index generated automatically with the same name as the project ("Demo_Wrapper"), which was initially marked as default. I have another clue, which bears the name I gave ("DW_Ind"). This index is up to date and complete the correct information. I have a setup similar to the table of contents.

We cannot understand why everything is fine in the script generated webhelp outside these aspects. For example, the skin is correctly copied everywhere.

Any help is more than welcome.

    Thank you

    Steve

    Hello Steve,.

    You can follow these steps:

    (1) open RobohelpHTML and double click the release you want to generate RHCL (launch Robohelp HTML 9-> under single Source Layout Pod-> Double click on WebHelp)

    (2) Webhelp settings window, under content, choose your default content categories

    (3) choose your table of contents Index & Drop Down Menu and save changes

    (4) generate WebHelp output of command RHCL, table of contents and the Index should appear this time

    Note: Assuming you generate WebHelp

    Hope this helps!

    Thank you.

  • Script errors in the table of contents in RoboHelp 9

Hello, all. I can usually find the solution to my problem by searching for existing threads, but I can't seem to find a solution this time. I recently upgraded to RoboHelp 7 to 9.0.2.271. I published WebHelp locally and checked the files in to a Team Foundation Server to be deployed in a test environment. Locally and on the QA site, the output seems fine for me and the table of contents works as expected. However, other users on Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (I have IE8) are getting script errors when you try to click on the pages of the table of contents.

I compressed my files the and dropped on a shared and player asked a user to copy on his machine and open the start with his browser page. He always gets the script errors, while another user can open locally without any problem. This makes me think that the problem is not in RoboHelp files themselves, but I'm not sure.

To further complicate things, in this environment, another server of QA, the table of contents and Index are empty! This is obviously a separate issue, but I'm stumped. This problem occurs in IE 6, 7 and 8. It does NOT occur in Firefox or IE 9.

    Any ideas?

This problem has been resolved with a response from another discussion:

Re: RH8 > WebHelp > TOC will not be rendered in IE8 via HTTPS - Fix/workaround solution?

If the table of contents/Index/Search does not work in IE7/8/9 via HTTPS, try the following steps

    1. Go to https://acrobat.com/#d=WqbdTq-2R79ToU08-zfBEw
    2. Download the IESearchIssue.zip file. Unzip it.
    3. It will create an IESearchIssue folder. It has two subfolders
      1. RH8.0.2
      2. RH9.0
    4. If you use RoboHelp 8.0.2, go to the folder RH8.0.2.
    5. If you use RoboHelp 9.0, navigate to the folder RH9.0
    6. Navigate to the \RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock folder and rename the file whutils.js in whutils.js.bak
    7. Now, paste the new whutils.js already copied into the same folder.
    8. Now again generate webhelp output the required project.
    9. Host it on your server and check if it works.
  • How to choose chapter numbers in table of contents headers?

Each new chapter title is in a table of one row and two columns. Column 1 contains only a large number (numbered style called ChapNum) against a shaded background and column 2 (shaded) contains the title of the chapter (Heading1 - which is NOT numbered; only the style of column 1 contains numbering.)

The only exceptions are the Preface (a title 1) chapter and the table of contents itself (which uses TOCTitle so it will not appear in the table of contents). For both, the shaded column 1 uses a style called ChapNoNum.

Layout a sideheads. first page of each numbered chapter looks like this:

    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     |                          |
    | 1   | Heading1.
    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     | text text text text text |
    |     | text text text text text |
    |     | text text text text text |

    |     | text text text text text |

    |     |                          |

    |     | TABLE OF CONTENTS |
    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     | Preface... 1.
    |     | 1 getting started... 3.
    |     | 2. more things... 5.
    |     | 3 troubleshooting... 9.

    ----------------------------------

But the table of contents contains only the Heading1s, which are not numbered. How to include the ChapNum in front of the title 1 in the table of contents? (I tried to use graphical boxes on master pages, instead of the rows in the table on the page body, but have not found the answer it.)

    Any help is welcome.

Table of contents specified only captures paragraph formats. Chapter numbers are not specified in the table of contents, so they are not captured. To capture the number and paragraphs of title, you must specify both formats in implementing TOC. For race number in the title, you must assign a paragraph format in the entrance of the number in the table of contents; This will cause the title to the number on the same line.
