vCenter 4.1 compatibility of database SQL U3

We are running vCENTER 4.1 U3 with remote SQL 2008 R2. VCenter 4.1U3 is compatible with SQL 2008 R2 SP2? I can't find documentation / HCL that lists this information.

Thank you.

Looking through the Matrices interoperability products, it does not appear so.

Only a single vCenter Server Heartbeat license is necessary to protect the components of the vCenter Server installed remotely, including SQL Server. A single license is also used for several UNIQUE for vCenter Server services protected authentication servers. A license is required per instance of vCenter Server.

    3. set up new DSN (SQL Native 11 for 2012 R2?) pointing to vCenter server

    Hello

    It's confusing.

This looks like a 2nd review SQL for Oracle 12 c.

    What is this new SQL Beta - 1z1 - 071 - 2 SQL - Oracle Database SQL 12 c

    Can someone explain.

OK - I guess I should have held off a few hours before my previous answer.  I just got an email in the Certification of Oracle program manager. Now, I have inside information.

1Z0-071 is a SQL new test and the role it plays is between that of the review of databases SQL and SQL Expert.  Specifically, unlike review of databases SQL, passing it will give proof of the OCA for people who spend. I don't know more than that yet.  The review details page is not available and if the subjects are currently a grey area for me.  I'll probably create a blog on the review, if I can get a few details about it.

  • Database SQL vCenter that is running on the virtual machine within vsphere

Hey guys, I was wondering how many of you are running your database remote vcenter on a virtual machine inside your vsphere environment? We always ran the vcenter db on a physical remote outside the vsphere group box, but I am considering the upgrade to sql 2008 R2 and I already have a virtual sql server computer running within vsphere.

Pro/drawbacks to be aware of the db running on a virtual machine?

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

We rotated our SQL database in a VM for a while now.

Some advantages are for example the wide use of HA and the ability to easily extend if necessary resources. In addition, if you use backup as Veeam software a restore takes only a few minutes from a physical configuration.

There are a few things when you have to keep in mind:

-Make sure that your SQL VM database begins before your vCenter (the service does not start if it cannot reach the database), even if it can be fixed manually it might be something you want to keep in mind

-If you use the distributed switches power risk since data is stored in the database, of course there are solutions for this (keep the traffic on a standard switch management)

-If you use HA make sure you modify the priority of restarting HA for the virtual machine (you don't want a reboot suddenly)

    Hello

I'm trying to set up a server vcenter for my view infrastructure. I configure vcenter as a virtual machine. Ive created the virtual machine ran updates this is joined to the domain. VM is win 2008 sp2 srvr. I want to install vcenter now, but the last time I experienced the steps that I received an error when you try to attach to sql server remotely.  SQL server is running Service Pack 3 to sql 2005 64-bit. should the db be created before installing vcenter? must the odbc connection be installed before installing vcenter?   Thank you in advance!

Yes, and you must have dbo on the MSDB and the VCDB (to create rollup jobs)

must the odbc connection be installed before installing vcenter?   Thank you in advance!

    Yes and tested.

  • Multiple vCenter on the same server database

    Hi all

    I'm migrating vCenter vCenter 5.5 5.1.

Is it possible to use the same server SQL2008R2 for vCenter 5.5 database?

Installation vCenter 5.5 database to the same server vCenter 5.1 will be will damage the 5.1 database? Use different database?

What is the best way to secure the vcenter 5.1 during the installation of vcenter 5.5 database other than the database backup 5.1?

Also does need seprate SSO database?

    Thank you...

I used SQL dissferent account and vCenter was insalled on the new database without problems.

  • Great migrations: move from vCenter 5.1 on Windows 2008R2/SQL 2008 5.1 or 5.5 on 2012 2012 Windows/SQL

In anticipation of the end of mainstream support for Windows Server 2008 R2, I want to migrate an installation vCenter to a whole new server and MS SQL Server.

It is a virtual machine running in my host cluster. There Server vCenter Update Manager, Converter Standalone and some services not VMware that I can handle it myself. ADAM is installed as part of the vCenter Server requirements, and it is also attached to an AD domain where I use AD, single sign - on.

The host cluster is four 5.1 ESXi hosts that are up to date, and helped HA and DRS. They use also switches distributed to all of their network connectivity, including vMotion, management, fault tolerance (although I do not use FT) and virtual machines.

I did upgrades on-site to vCenter before and I replaced SQL Express with SQL Standard on the same server, but I did not move before vCenter. I'd make some drastic measures, as I understand:

    * Complete backups (of course) of SQL in the server itself, ADAM

Installation of a new server operating system and SQL 2012

Withdrawal of databases and reinstall them on the new server

    * Restoration of ADAM on the new server

    Installation vCenter, Update Manager, etc.

    * Hoping the host cluster is mounted on the new server, and nothing breaks

I'm not all that worried about maintaining statistics, so maybe it is possible to install a new server vCenter Server and simply move the host cluster from the old server to the new. I moved one vCenter to another host, but that was before I put in place of distributed switching.

I found this on a related post:

Migration in a new vCenter VMware environment. IT diversifies

This manual seems to echo what I've read so far, I had to disassemble the distributed switches until I can migrate any host to a new server vCenter. Yuck. Well, I've migrated from the standard to the switches distributed without downtime before, so I can do the opposite.

  • Post Vcenter 5.0 upgrade installation of SQL

We are looking to perform a new installation of Vcenter Server 5.0.  Now we have only 3 guests and a few VM so we will install SQL 2008 Express to us operational.  Our question is weather or not, it is possible to upgrade SQL after installation.  We are looking at a few options as SQL goes, but we will probably install an instance on a separate hardware and pointing the Vcenter on this one.  We want to just make sure that this is possible.

Yes, you can detach the database and then move elsewhere, or take a backup copy of the database and restore it elsewhere. Then, point the ODBC connection in vCenter for the new home of the database.

    See you soon.

How I created a Data Source Name (DSN)

    3. The default use "verify the authenticity of the ID connection via integrated Windows authentication.

    4. Connect to the new SQL server database.

How do I install vCenter Server:

    1. Choose the option to use an existing supported database.

    3. By using a local administrator for the service account account.
