• Is - it possible/supported to join a vCenter Server Appliance for a Small Business Server 2011 Active Directory Windows?

• UCSM / VMware vCenter Server dependencies for vDS

  I'm still trying to wrap my head around the differences between the vDS created via UCSM / VMware vCenter integration and the traditional N1K.

  If correctly, the vDS UCSM (1.4) does not require the VSM device which is necessary with the N1K.  And if that is correct, is there any dependency on vCenter?  If vCenter falls down the vDS will continue to operate normally as made them act as the VSM?

  There is a dependency on vCenter, similar to N1kv (software) and UCSM vDS (hardware), applies to both methods of implementation. However, if vCenter goes down the current state of the operation continues. When a change occurs on the virtual machine, that is where should be upward a vCenter race.

  Concerning best practices, I was that it is better to have everything on the vDS for operational reasons. You can then apply and manage the kernal ports in the same case that VM vNIC. QoS, etc... There is a nice documentation on www.cisco.com/go/designzone data Center on this topic.

  I don't know what you mean by "support assistance. Assume that you are referring to vCenter Assistant support.

  To receive by e-mail monthly reports, you must do 2 things (as long as you have vCenter Assistant support installed and configured):

  1. Enable proactive Support
  2. Subscribe to send monthly reports.
     1. In a Web browser, log vCenter Unit Assistant support.
     2. On the details tab, enter your email address and click Save.

• vCenter Site DR for SRM

  I have just completed my upgrade to vCenter and ESXi 5.5 and now I'm looking to deploy a second vCenter in my DR site in preparation for the deployment of the SRM.  Can someone point me to a configuration or a document on best practices?  I don't know if I have to do an installation vCenter linked mode and how to manage the database.

  Yes, you're right.  You'll be standing up a new instance of vCenter server, which will include its own database.  During installation, you can create a group Linked-Mode.  Then, you can manage each vCenter from a single pane of glass.

  I'm about to upgrade my vCenter 2.5 to 5.0 on a 64-bit VM. For now, I leave my host to 3.5 update 5. When I install the license server, can I bring over the old file from my old server vcenter 2.5 license? Also, if I do a new install of 5.0 and point to my database server, I have to use the data for this upgrade migration tool?

  When you create an import or export tasks and select a vNetwork Distributed Switch in the choice of the network for the virtual machine target, the task begins but does not immediately with the following error message: unknown error returned from agent vCenter Converter. This problem appears when you use the wizards to import or export or the convert Command Line Interface (CLI) tool to create the task.

  Solution: Select a network to the computer virtual target that is not a vNetwork Distributed Switch.

  We had this problem a few weeks back and see how this problem exists since last year, vCenter 4.0 Update 1 or 2 this address?  Thank you.

  There is no mention of the issue on the VMware vCenter Converter vCenter Server 4.1 release notes. The release notes can be found at http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_vcc_42_rel_notes.html

  I don't see the same options of configuration of email alert in Horizon see the version like regular operations manager.  Is there a guide I lack?

  It took awhile to sink, but there are two UI.  the vC Ops admin console and the custom console from the "view of the Horizon.

  You need a database to contain the vCenter Server information. It may be SQL/Oracle. By default, an installation of SQL Express happens if you do not want to install a complete SQL Server blown - it will have maximum but limits work for smaller infrastructure.

  Exact wording of the documentation:

  vCenter Server and vCenter Update Manager require databases to store and organize the data from the server.

  Each instance of vCenter server must have its own database. vCenter Server instances cannot share the same database schema. Several databases of vCenter Server can reside on the same database server, or they can be split between multiple database servers. Databases Oracle, who have the notion of schema objects, you can run several unique vCenter Server instances in a database server if you are the owner of a different pattern for each instance of vCenter server, or use a server of Oracle database dedicated for each instance of vCenter server.

  You don't need to install a new server database for the vCenter Server installation to work. During installation, you can point the vCenter Server system for the supported existing databases. vCenter Server supports IBM DB2, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases. vCenter Update Manager supports Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.   Yes, you can clone it to back it up. So far, that your network settings are correctly configured you can turn on in disaster scenarios.

When I look in the specs for VMware View Prime Minister, there is a vCenter for included desktop computers.   The license of vCenter in vSphere for desktops can only be used with Office workloads.  So to answer your question Yes licecnse included vCenter is identical to vCenter Server standard, it can be used only with Office workloads.  If you use server workloads, you can buy a vCenter license.

  VCenter Linux is for new deployments only.  I don't even think that we support a lateral transition... as if you had an Oracle DB for vCenter and then improved to vCenter 5... the old vCenter Windows turned off and turned on the device Linux to use the existing Oracle DB.

  Also, note the vCenter device only supports Oracle and DB2 as an external database... so if you use SQL Server, which is not even an option for you.
