Yes they can, so you must only be sure to have enough bandwidth network and speed between them will not affect the performance of VC.

  • vCenter Best Practices Database

I'm looking for the VMware documentation that tells me that if it is advisable to keep the vCenter and vCenter database on a different machine in the production environment.

My about 500 VMs infrastructure and I currently have the DB and vCenter on the same machine.

I keep DB on a separate machine is better than having the single point of failure and I think that's what vmware recommends.

However I'm looking for the Vmware documentation that points.

I went through the best practices database link in the doc that you shared.

strange, that VMware has not mentioned clearly anywhere if it's good to keep the DB and vCenter application on separate computers.

Documentation need concrete who can back up.

    Thanks for your update :)

  • vCenter 5.5 Database Migration

    Greetings,

I anticipate the need to migrate my database to vCenter 5.5 to a 2012 of SQL Server to another. I saw the full documentation on SQL Express to SQL migration, but nothing for this particular case. Does anyone know of a document for this?

  • vCenter 4.1 update vCenter 5.1 database?

    Hi all

    I have another question:

I made a backup of my database sqlserver 2005 vCenter 4.1.

I want to restore it on the new database of vCenter 5.1.

    Is this possible?

vCenter can update the database up to 5.1?

    How can I do this?

    Thank you in advance

    Bertrand

Ago, so create a new virtual machine and install SQL 2008 on it. Import the backup from the comics, you had taken and then on the VC machine, start the installation of VC.

You will need create the ODBC connection before you start

After that, just follow the normal installation steps - the link below will help

  • Should I upgrade vCenter VC4 and database used?

We are running a cluster of ESX 3.5 SP4 and want to migrate to vSphere in the future.

We believe that the first step should be to vCenter for VC4 first migration.  We would like to know if there will be a problem for VC4 to manage ESX 3.5 hosts?

In addition, if we use MS SQL Server 2005, to buy another license for it.  Do we need a processor or just a CAL 5 license?

In addition, if we choose to SQL Server 2005 Express, is there a potential showstopper?  Just as there is no plan database maintenance SQL Server 2005 Express... etc

    Thank you

Yes, it would be better if you update your database first - he will do things to choke. Regarding SQL express, with only 6 guests, it should be good to use as your database for VC - if your shoot environments or you have plans to expand, increase the number of hosts, then I would be to move to SQL-

  • Update Manager - error connecting to VMware vCenter Update Manager - database temporarily unavailable or has network problems.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, I triple checked that I can connect on the VCenter server using the account Update Manager DB owner on the Update Manager database. I can connect to SQL using the native client ODBC SQL 2008 under the same account. But we get the same error of several machines when we install and run the plugin VCenter.

    Any ideas?

If you use Windows authentication to connect to the database, you have to change the user who initially on the virtual center of the Update Manager service. You must put the name of user and password of the user that can connect to the database (by default Update Manager beginning with the Local System account. During the installation if the vCenter Server is on Windows 2008 I think you must also use the FQDN of the server vCenter (or ip address) to be sure it get the right address (something to do with IPv6 on Windows 2008). At least it worked for me.

I do nto see average on the client to fix this, so I am at a loss.  Under the Summary tab, there is a link to allow the virtual machine to be manageed through VCeneter, but this is just a link to the download of vcenter

    Any help much appreciated

Yes, the user interface is very limited functionality beyond the functions of simple power of your guests.  You will need for the program installation/configuration/manage your VI using the vSphere Client.

  • Performance history missing after the movement of vcenter database

I recently moved our vcenter remote SQL database to a new server. The move of the SQL database process went well. After that I moved the database update the DSN on the server Vcenter, and the connection successfully tested.

I thought everything was fine, until I tried to look through some performance stats and noticed that I had no story in history. I can see all the stats from before I moved the database and I can see real time statistics, but I do not see that anything recorded in day or week view since his arrival in the database. It's almost as if she's not writing the statistics in the database. I've attached a screenshot of what I see.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

A note, I moved the Express database from SQL 2005 to 2008 R2 SQL server. After setting on the new server, I changed the compatibility from 2005 to 2008. Not sure if this has something to do with it.

    Thanks for your suggestions

  • Is it possible to run vCenter Server and AUVS in the same database?

Hello. My client has vCenter Server and VUM installed and running in the same database. Yes, the same database (not only same server database) and the same ODBC (ODBC VUM is 32-bit only).

My question is whether it is supported or not and I would like a source VMware information, not only "it works fine for me".

I can't find any definitive info on this VMware. Only something to wave in the installation and upgrade guides about or not to run in the same database ' ' (I guess they mean 'server') and it seems that the recommendation is to separate them for the 'large environments,' whatever that means.

The environment vSphere 4.1 is currently, and there are about 20 guests and 150 virtual machines.

If it is not supported, I guess the best way to go is to reinstall both from scratch?

    Thanks in advance!

    / Anders

Yes, it is a supported configuration.  Since VUM and vCenter using different tables, you can share the same DB

The database of the update manager that you use can be identical to the vCenter Server database. You can also use a
separate database, or you can use existing database clusters. For best results in a large scale environment, you
must use a dedicated Update Manager database that is located on one computer other than the
    the vCenter Server system database.

  • locations of vCenter and database?

This I can (or what is the best practice) put vcenter and sql database in a single site (site A).

and in another place (geographically) the hosts and guests (site B)?

My question is about the work of sql, do you think it will work very well, or performance will degrade and will be slow and Ahmed?

    Thanks to you all.

As written, you need enough bandwith Announces low latency (to avoid the disconnection of the hosts).

But is possible, and for "small" remote or branch office is usual.

  • vCenter database availability

    Hello

I'm creating a separate instance of vCenter to support my view environment. We will use SQL Server 2008 for database of vcenter. We're going to use for the view vCenter Server SQL Server will not be grouped. What kind of consequences that will have when say MS Updates must be installed on the SQL Server, and the server must be restarted?  I'll ask my DBA team to restart only this server during the night if necessary.

    Thank you

    Mike

Sorry I assume that the vcenter and the database are the same server. like wise, it's the same thing. but it's better to stop the vcenter before restarting the db server so that vcenter would not try to make something funny when the DB is not available.

  • Move the database on its own server Vcenter 4

My current Vcenter Server 4.0 has the Vcenter Server and database SQL 2005 on the same computer. My performance is EXTREMELY slow, as in there more than 15 minutes for the client to connect, Vsphere load inventory and discover plugins until I'm able to use it. Once loaded, clicking on the servers and things within the client is very slow. So I think that by moving the database of its own machine, it will increase the performance of the vcenter server. I was looking in the vcenter admin section, and I can't find a way to 'clear' to tell him to look for the database on a different server.

Does anyone have any documentation on how to move the vcenter database to another server?

    Thank you!
