vCenter DB SQL migration problem...

I am migrating the vCenter DB SQL to a dedicated SQL Server.

He already uses SQL Server but on the VM as well as the installation of vCenter.

Displacement of the DB and align the ODBC on the connection failed start service vCenter, so I decided to re - install from scratch.

I did installing vCenter ODBC for the DB link and should be encouraged to use the existing database.

There is no "happen so I had to go back."

Any reason, why this did not happen for me?

Pete.

  • vCenter and SQL 2005 Express on the same physical machine

I'm new on the VMware environment and am a little concerned about my VMware infrastructure and design.  I have 3 boxes physical accommodation 15 virtual servers.  I have a 4th server that hosts the database SQL and vcenter.  I am wondering what are my chances of having vCenter and SQL 2005 express installed on the same box?  That suggest VMware as best practices concerning this configuration?  If this configuration is ok, what are my options to protect myself in case the box with vCenter and the SQL database dies?  Thank you

VMware sets a limitation to 5 guests and 50 wen invited you use SQL Express. I run it with 6 guests and 48 guests (incl. models) on the same machine as the server vcenter. That's not what I want to keep and we will change to a standard SQL 2005 on a separate server from SQL (which we had with SQL 2000 and before VI3).

But I didn't have one problem with this configuration, again.

With both on the same server may lead to a conflict: SQL 2005 requires IIS but vCenter uses ports. So I installed it but disabled.

I think also that separating the two tracks faster that have it all on the same box.

    Hi Prabhu,

Probably, you must specify the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. Like the following:

    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$TIMESTEN_HOME/ttoracle_home/instantclient_11_1

  • vCenter Essentials, VM migration

    Hi people,

I plan to have 3 Dell R710s vSphere Essentials running.  Can not afford a SAN unfortunately, so discreet DAS RAID'd volumes SAS that it is.

My question is; It is possible to use vCenter to migrate one turned off power VM directly from one VIRTUAL server to another?  I know that we can certainly migrate a live machine without SAN and/or vMotion, but I am currently concerned only with virtual computers moving between VHOSTs in an attempt to avoid the awkward FastSCP road for major virtual machines offline...  We currently use VMware Server 1.x and 2.x and it is easy to shift machinery directly between hosts using Windows file sharing - of course not an option with vSphere, ESXi /...

Also, I intend to install vCenter on a separate physical box, but I'll also install Symantec BackupExec by some agent is needed, as well as VCB - all on the same box (Win Server 2008 R2 Standard x 64).  Is this sound OK?

    Thank you very much

    Alistair

With vCenter, you can migrate cold, doesn't matter if you have storage shared or not.

The VCB with vCenter together on the same machine seems acceptable. Maybe with the increase of data you backup with time a separate machine may be necessary.

  • LM - vCenter backup and Migration

    All,

Save the LM database using this command: OSQL s localhost\vlm e q "backup database labmanager to DISK = 'lm_backup.bak'" then turn these bands.

And I also have vCenter using SQL backup backup then turn to tape.

Is that all I need to fully restore the functional environment of LM?

There are concerns of the moment?

They need to be backed up at the same time?

What else would I need to backup?

Can I just restore the LM and still have one with success of the restoration of LM?

If all you need is to restore the databases, that'd do it

but don't forget that Lab Manager is not only a console to restore, she 'depends' on the configurations you make in the servers ESX storage configurations, etc. Another thing to keep in mind is the configuration of a virtual machine created in the environment, sometimes, they create a set (a lot of) clones, I thing isn't easy backup, unless you configure a backup agent in virtual machines, or replicate/clone LUN with all files

hope that it points you in the right direction

  • SQL database Migration problem!

    Hello

I am migrating the database SQL 2012 for vcenter 5.5.  It worked fine, but I can't create jobs of Roll-up on the new SQL Server, because the vCenter database uses the custom schema 'Raphael', cumulative patch-work scripts fail to run because they are written to the default dbo schema.

I don't know how to change them all to work with the custom schema.

    Any ideas?

Hello, you can update the sql scripts used to create the jobs of roll-up, see this article VMware KB: update rollup jobs after the error: the performance data are currently not available for this entity -you can see the location of the sql jobs based on your OS, change and update accordingly to recreate

  • SQL Server VM with vCenter database storage migration

vCenter Server 5 and ESXi 5.

Hi all. Have vcenter server on a physical machine. The database server is VM with SQL Server 2008R2. Need recommendation of migrating data to another store. The storage systems are different. And can not be shared beetwen 2 servers. HP MSA 2012 SAS Enclouser and HP EVA 6500.

I think you only good option is to take note of the host in which your VCDB VM is saved. Turn off vCenter (it won't work anyway once the DB is taken offline).  Then use VMware Converter to migrate the virtual computer from the data store either.  Once the VM has been upsized, turn the VCDB VM, turn on vcenter, ensure that everything works and then destroy the 'old' VCDB VM.

    Thank you

    Hi Rajneesh,

    Sorry for the late reply.

    I'm so clear.
You have migrated your database on Oracle 11 g and everything seemed OK.
Then, you tried to copy the database to Oracle 10 g with the Assistant export to SQL developers.
    Your main problem is
    Error (48,13): PLS-00905: object DBO_PMS_DB. SQLSERVER_UTILITIES is not valid

The SQLSERVER_UTILITIES package can be referenced a lot, so an invalid SQLSERVER_UTILITIES can cause a lot of dependency problems.
I don't know why he could not compile, but you can identify and fix the problem using SQL Dev to access a SQLSERVER_UTILITIES Oracle 10 g package and recompiling / addressing aspects.

    Hope this helps

  • Migrate from VCenter 4 SQL Express to SQL 2005

    Hello

I installed VC on SQL Express and you want to migrate the database to a separate server running SQL2005.  Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to do that?  I tried the folllowing, but it failed:

    1. install VC on serperate server and create the database on SQL 2005 - I did it for all the stored procedures would be copied

    2 Backup SQL Express

    3. 2nd stop install VC

    4. restore the backup from SQL Express to VCDB on SQL2005

5 ensure the VCDB SQL2005 and MSDB peuvent vmuser as dbo

    6 vc origin stop server

    6. change the DSN to the original VC server to point to SQL2005 VCDB

I used sql authentication and logs of the DSN on the VCDB SQL2005 very well, but when I run the VC Service, it fails to start with event ID 1000, which is a very generic message saying that windows does not have the information needed to display the details of the message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Vcenter 5.5 migration. to 6.0

    Nice day

I'm about to do a migration of Vcenter 5.5 to 6.0 and I have a question in my envirenment I have an ESXI5.5 inside I have vcenter due the problem I have with disk space and memory, that I can not migrate in the same machine, so my question is possile that I install the new server with Vcenter 6.0 and I copy the database for Vcenter 5.5 in the new Vcenter 6.0 database?

    Thank you very much

    Concerning

Yes, you can install a VCSA or Windows of VC-based fees.

Or make a migration as above then upgrading the new VC at 6.

To put your old hosts in the new Victoria Cross, you can re - connect to the new Victoria Cross. If you want to upgrade to ESXi 6.0 check the HCL to ensure that they are compatible with the VMware Compatibility Guide - Search system V6

  • Sharing warehouses of data between two vCenter and VM migration

    Hello

I have 2 groups. One is in vSphere 5.5 (ClusA - 6 esxi) and the other is in vSphere 6.0 (ClusB - 6 esxi). Each cluster has own LUN (we have systems of storage EMC vnx 5500) and own vCenter. The goal is to migrate all virtual machines of 5.5 to 6.0. I thought to present (share) the logic of ClusA in ClusB unit number, so I have vCenter_ClusA stop the virtual machine, remove them from the inventory and the vCenter_ClusB add to the inventory of the virtual machine.

    Issues related to the:

Can I simply unregister the virtual fron 5.5 machine environment and enter them on environment 6.0?

Sharing LUNS between 2 cluster can be a problem? Consider after that the ClusA migration will be stopped.

This configuration would cause corruption datastore because two separate vcenters access to the same data store?

Thanks for the reply and sorry for my bad English!

    Please help me!

You can share data warehouses between the vCenter/cluster without problem. And on the task to unregister / register, don't forget to stop the VM on the old cluster before cancelling the registration of the stock.

Here's a blog showing that you can store data shared between the clusters/vCenters: with vSphere 5.0 and HA can I share data across clusters warehouses?

    Hi guys,.

I have a project to move our of vCenter company database in SQL 2008 R2 Cluster at our new farm of R2 SQL 2012, is it as simple as:

    1. backup of database

    2 restore database in SQL 2012 R2

    3. set up new DSN (SQL Native 11 for 2012 R2?) pointing to vCenter server

  • vCenter 4 & SQL with authentication Windows - errors in the event log

I worked on a new installation of SQL 2005 & vCenter 4 and chose to follow the guidelines of good practice and have the configuration of authentication Windows for the DSN and vCenter services.  After a few small problems, I have everything works fine, however there are a lot of Application events generated on SQL Server as follows:

    Event type: Failure Audit

    Event source: MSSQLSERVER

    Event category: (4)

    Event ID: 18456

    Date: 10/20/2009

It does not appear to pose any real problems, but I don't want my fill with these Application event logs and ideally I want to go to the bottom of him so I know nothings actually bad before it prepares for production.

I know that this was a mistake that has been received (similar in any case) when you don't have your SQL Server set to mixed authentication & attempted to use SQL to your DSN account, but do not know what it is now.

    Any help appreciated.

    Doug.

OK - managed to solve my problem by solving another...

Noticed that graphs of Performance seen in vCenter threw an error - restarted the Management Services Web service on the server vCenter vCenter, solved the graphics Perf error and stopped SQL event logs generated too.
