LM - vCenter backup and Migration
All,
Save the LM database using this command: OSQL s localhost\vlm e q "backup database labmanager to DISK = 'lm_backup.bak'" then turn these bands.
And I also have vCenter using SQL backup backup then turn to tape.
Is that all I need to fully restore the functional environment of LM?
There are concerns of the moment?
They need to be backed up at the same time?
What else would I need to backup?
Can I just restore the LM and still have one with success of the restoration of LM?
If all you need is to restore the databases, that'd do it
but don't forget that Lab Manager is not only a console to restore, she 'depends' on the configurations you make in the servers ESX storage configurations, etc. Another thing to keep in mind is the configuration of a virtual machine created in the environment, sometimes, they create a set (a lot of) clones, I thing isn't easy backup, unless you configure a backup agent in virtual machines, or replicate/clone LUN with all files
hope that it points you in the right direction

Error in the process of backup and migration
Hello world
We buy a new server in our office. I want to migrate all virtual machines of old server ESXi to new ESXi server. I installed a Veeam Backup & Replication Free Edition to take backup of virtual machines or quick migrate between ESXi hosts. All the VMs were transferred successfully from the old server to new server, except 1 Server (TFS). I have an error in TFS server backup and transfer. When I want to transfer TFS or a backup of it, the error "the file < indeterminate finename > not found" occurs.
I turned off the VM TFS and started the backup procedure, but I got the same error. I tried to use another third called vmProtect Acronis backup tools. With this tool, I got the same error, but in the format clearly. The error is:
Task ' back to ' local folders "could not: ' cannot create a backup.

Backup and restore of vCenter server 4.1
Currently, vCenter 4.1 is installed on Windows Server2003 enterprise is in what host 4 are added. Now, I want to backup of vCenter server and restore on new installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Mercenaries R2 64 bit OS.
Please help as how it is possible thanks to windows 2003 migration to windows server 2008 R2 64-bit.
I wrote a post on how I migrated my vCenter to a new server

You might be able to grab a few snippets from there on how to overcome all the data/databases to the new box without actually going live on it (changing the IP, etc...)

I don't have a 2nd computer. Is it possible to migrate an external backup, and then on a new drive hard mac?
Use Time Machine or a clone to copy to the outside.
Clone - Carbon Copy clone (Often recommended because it has more features than others)

VCenter downwards and no backups
Hello, I could be walking in an environment where the Vcenter server is down and there may be no backups. Ive been told there are problems with the certificates and the database. Now, I don't know the details right now, but it's wondering what I have to do if I need to put in place a new Vcenter server and there is no backup of database and certificates are bad?
I don't know some info. There are about 6 hosts running ESXi 5.1. There are on the run from 30 VM. There is a HA cluster and Vmotion is configured. not sure whether the DRS.
If I were to set up a new server Vcenter with new SS and the new database. Can I just add the ESXi hosts on the new Vcenter server without being troubled for the virtual machine?
IM basically worried configs Switch network, storage configs and lose this info. Some virtual machines may need to connect to one network rather than another. This information would get lost and my VM would lose network connectivity if I just added the new Vcenter Server? Or ESXi hosts with all this info it would be fine and come?
I don't like on Performance data or the user, or permissions, roles which can all be setup again.
Reset the HA cluster should not be a big problem as im assuming that the Cluster info would no more even if the hosts have this info?
I hope it made sense
Thank you
Hello
You must be totally fine with a few re-estabilishing a new vCenter from scratch and connecting hosts ESXi back once again and then just by creating a cluster and placing it there as well as the good configuration for DTS/DRS/VCA, etc.. This will not affect running Virtual Machines somehow - but just to be safe, I recommend to do this out of hours
The only thing you will lose is:
- Resource pools
- Annotations of VM
- Custom folder organization
The rest is retained within the hypervisor itself - if the virtual machines have been on standard vSwitch, you're good. If they were on distributed vSwitch, you want to export the configuration of a current ESXi host, then apply together via Exim vCenter again. Some useful links about that: VMware KB: export/import/restore Distributed Switch configs using vSphere client Web and: Distributed vSwitches and vCenter fails, that & #039; s the deal?

Essbase Perform backup, recovery, migration of applications and task automation
Hello world
I am very new (actually starts) to Essbase and try to learn it from the documentation and examples available on the web. At my work, we just plan to use Hyperion Essbase for planning and budgeting application. As I am the Oracle DBA if the installation tasks and admin fall on my shoulders. Can you please refer me to the documentation, Note or reference to Essbase backups, recovery, migrating applications, automating tasks and optimization. Or a starting point I can explore the part of the administration of Essbase only.

vCenter Essentials, VM migration
Hi people,
I plan to have 3 Dell R710s vSphere Essentials running. Can not afford a SAN unfortunately, so discreet DAS RAID'd volumes SAS that it is.
My question is; It is possible to use vCenter to migrate one turned off power VM directly from one VIRTUAL server to another? I know that we can certainly migrate a live machine without SAN and/or vMotion, but I am currently concerned only with virtual computers moving between VHOSTs in an attempt to avoid the awkward FastSCP road for major virtual machines offline... We currently use VMware Server 1.x and 2.x and it is easy to shift machinery directly between hosts using Windows file sharing - of course not an option with vSphere, ESXi /...
Also, I intend to install vCenter on a separate physical box, but I'll also install Symantec BackupExec by some agent is needed, as well as VCB - all on the same box (Win Server 2008 R2 Standard x 64). Is this sound OK?
Thank you very much
Alistair
With vCenter, you can migrate cold, doesn't matter if you have storage shared or not.
The VCB with vCenter together on the same machine seems acceptable. Maybe with the increase of data you backup with time a separate machine may be necessary.

Problems of restoring a backup of Windows Vista backup and restore program
I recently had to completely reinstall Windows XP, then the Vista upgrade, to fix a problem with updates of Microsoft.NET and ATI graphic driver. In may, I made a full backup of my laptop using Vista resident backup and restore program, using an external hard drive to store the backup. When I learned that I had to reinstall the operating system, I did another backup in August (but not complete) using the same program. Just after this backup in August, I did the reinstallation of operating systems, with the help of the phone of Dell. My original problems are solved.
When I was ready to use the restore the Vista program, I had to choose among the two sets of data (May to August) about which I wanted to restore on my laptop. I chose August, thinking that it would be later. However, in Outlook, all my saved e-mail messages are gone, I have no e-mail address book and any current calendar entries. These are the only things I noticed up to this and are not, but I have not checked all the files... they are large enough.
The folder on my laptop which normally contains my Outlook data files shows only a file Archive and the very small current .pst data file for 7 messages in my Inbox.
It seems that the backup of August was important to may backup and maybe most of my Outlook data are in the may backup. How to get data from two backups in my laptop? When the backup is a folder with the same name, you have the opportunity to write about it, not copy, or copy it and have 2 folders.
I tried to copy all the data from the external hard drive in the folder of Outlook data on my laptop. It will eventually be several files, and Outlook reads only the more recent, so I don't always get access to the data that I hope is here!
Can someone please? My life is in my calendar, I lost years of e-mail addresses, and much saved messages that contain important data. Thank you!

Backup and restore in Control Panel broken
Hello
I just replaced an aging C: / hard drive with an SSD Samsung and cloned my OS 64 bit Windows 7 overall. I used data migration the Samsung app.
Everything goes well except in emergency control panel and restore does not work. Screenshot see attachment. Clicking in the pane does nothing.
I ran sfc/scannow, and he did not find any breach of integrity. VolumeShadowCopy is in automatic mode.
Can anyone offer any words of wisdom?
Thank you, SuperNiceNina.
Hello Gerry,.
Yes it is the service Windows backup that I put on automatic to get Control Panel Backup and Restore works again.
After your post I put it to manual and it always of the functions.
I thought initially that Auto was the best in that sense, it runs automatically. What is the functional difference between manual and automatic startup type settings?
Thank you very much.

Question about MSD + upgrade and migration applications
Hi all
I am running:
TMS 13.2
TMSPE 1.0
The two co reside on a Windows 2003 server, pointint in an external box of SQL.
We also organize TCX 2.3 on our Exchange.
Now that our server guys have * finally * installed the service pack required on the Exchange, we are ready to migrate to TMSXE but also to upgrade the TMS and TMSPE.
So we want ot go to:
TMS 14.2.1
TMSPE 1.1
TMSXE 3.1
In addition to migrate a Windows server 2008R2 TMS + TMSPE.
I know the different individual guides to upgrade as well as the dependencies between TMS and TMSPE/TMSXE versions. I'm hoping to do the upgrade and migration all in one and am hoping to get some tips on the best order to do everything.
My first question - decomission the 13.2/TMSPE server 1.1 TMS, that I can install TMS 14.2.1 and TMSPE 1.1 on the Windows Server 2008, they point to the relevant databases and allow upgrading from there? Or do I need install the new versions TMS/TMSPE on the old server, first of all, upgrade the databases and then migrate?
Second question - before all this, I run the TMSXE migration tool to extract the data 2.3 TCX, uninstall TCX of Exchange, TMS upgrades and then install TMSXE 3.0/3.1 at the end?
As all this is running on the virtual machine I'll instant just in case. Advice on the issues listed above, or general advice about these upgrades would be appreciated
Hi Nick, IMHO, I suggest you first migrate your 2.3 TCX to TMSXE 3.0.2 by this TMSXE 3.0 installation guide, and then pass the TMS and PE later.
Yes, VM snapshot backup option before any upgrade is fine.

EBS R12.2.4 db backup and restore
Hello
I need to make a database backup for security reasons. How I had to do in EBS? with expdp (.dmp) and a restoration with impdp (.dmp)
or what is the process?
Thank you.
Luis.
Hello
Do not use the import/export for backup and restore. They are generally used to migrate a database to a new server or as an alternative to an upgrade of database.
You must use RMAN after enabling archivelog mode.
It allows you to perform backups hot, cloning of the database and many other things.
If you don't/can't use it, you can make a cold backup of the database files.
Kind regards
Bashar

Create a new vsphere environment 6 and migrate virtual machines to esxi existing 5.1
The current environment has a cluster with 5.1 esxi hosts and vcenter server 5.5-controlled.
I would like to create a new environment vsphere 6 with new hosts. Again I mean a clean install of vCenter server 6 and esxi, implementation of the new cluster, etc.. So I won't be able to migrate virtual machines running in 5.1 esxi hosts to the new environment.
What would be the appropriate steps to make this right?
Thank you.
Take a look at this KB on how to move an ESXi host at another vCenter vSphere: VMware KB: move a managed ESX ESXi host to a vCenter Server to a different Server vCenter
And if you are using vDS, you should look here: KB VMware: ESX/ESXi host with vDS passing a vCenter Server to another

New Vcenter server and host add
Hello, we are planning to create a new server Vcenter. Had a bunch of weird issues with Vcenter. Vcenter 5.1 on Windows running. have not decided if we will use the VCenter, or create a new virtual machine from Windows to Vcenter again but I don't think that will count for my question.
My plan is to turn off HA and DRS on the old server Vcenter, then remove a host from the old server Vcenter, and then add this host on the new Vcenter server. Then just repeat the process for each host.
My question is, should I turn off any virtual machine running on the hosts before removing the old server vcenter?
If I remember correctly you have not, the virtual machine must remain in place and running, no connectivity should be lost and users should not not the difference. We plan to do this off-peak hours, but there are always a couple of vm that are used 24/7. It would be therefore rather not have to stop first.
Thank you
Hi defrogger
Yes, it's the right way to migrate a new vCenter ESX Server.
Disable HA/DRS and then disconnect the ESXi, vCenter server and plug them into the new vCenter.
By disabling the DRS, you will lose the Resource Pools. So its maybe you assign only manual DRS.
Another thing that many people forget are the options of the virtual machine on the cluster options. they have been set up again on the new cluster.
BTW. There is a guide of vmware:
