vCenter provide a novell / netware domain

I am currently planning the installation of vCenter/vSphere in a field by which the do didn't ActiveDirectory - they're still running novell / netware.

I'm not too familiar with netware - I know it is LDAP, but vCenter will integrate with it for authentication services? Or do I just run my user accounts locally for vCenter?

Thank you.

Today, its only ActiveDirectory.

  • Novell Netware 4.1

I have havve the possibility of converting the Novell Netware 4.x server.

I have a knowledge on Novell Netware and you can get limited support.

What is the way of the least risky to convert the server in a virtual machine?

    Concerning

    Marius

We do have a product that allows to convert from now novell netware.  However...

You can buy Portlock Storage Manager of http://www.portlock.com and then you can image the NetWare server and restore it in the newly created virtual machine.

Portlock Storage Manager creates an image of the server. All you have to do is create a new machine virtual with disks of the same size (or slightly larger) and that you are restoring. Set up the NetWare server and modify the commissioning. NCF using the LSIMPTNW. Driver for the controller SCSI LSI of HAM. For the NETWORK card, you will need to change to the PCNTNW. LAN driver. Don't worry about the fact that it shows the speed of 10 Mbps, it's just a driver and the transmission of the data as fast as ESX can do.

  • Having problems setting up a 5.5 vCenter Server VM in a domain configuration...

I'm trying to implement a vCenter Server VM (new installation, no upgrade) without an Active Directory domain that is available.  I was able to do this successfully in the past with 5.0 and 5.1, but now with 5.5 I have problems.

Installing SSO works fine and displays warnings expected that the server is not on a domain and the certificate will be bound to the INVESTIGATION period.

When I then try to run Setup from the inventory Service, it fails when you try to connect to the SSO:

"Could not connect to vCenter Single Sign On.  Make sure that the Search Service URL points correctly to the vCenter Single Sign On the instance that you installed.  If vCenter Single Sign-On is installed with an IP address, make sure that the IP address is specified in the URL.

5.0 and 5.1, in order to get this installation runs correctly, I would like to enter the IP address in the URL (as it says in the error), and he'd be fine.  So the address provided for the Research Service URL is https://< ip_address >: 7444/lookupservice/sdk

I tried several variants for the fields of FULL domain name and URL of the Service search without success.

Can someone confirm a successful for 5.5 off-field installation?  And if so, try to direct me in the right direction?

I end up doing work, it turned out to be an order of operations issue.

I tried to install SSO, then service inventory, then Web Service, then vcenter Server.  And on a domain, this order actually worked well.  For some reason any, when not on a domain, they must go SSO-> Web Service-> Service-> vCenter Server inventory (this command works in both scenarios, just to be clear).

  • Installing vCenter 5.5 on a domain controller for Win2k12

    Hello everyone,

I hope someone can help me with what I'm trying to do in my lab at home at little cost (laptop running nested esxi). As suggested by the topics, I try to install SSO, Web Client, the inventory Service and vCenter Server on a Win2k12 that will be a domain controller. What I've done so far (in addition to pull my hair):

    1. install and activate Win2k12

    2. install vCenter using Simple installation

    3. change ports for LDAP / SSL to 3899 and 6369 accordingly (instead of 389 year 636)

4 adding roles DC, DHCP and DNS

5 try to promote the domain controller in a new forest = FAILURE because the required ports are already in use, in particular send me questions is 88 port used by the kdc vmware service. As soon as I kill / uninstall VMware SSO, I can promote the server to a domain controller, but then I can not connect to vCenter more.

Any idea / help will be very appreciated!

  • VMWare vCenter Server Appliance / 2012R2 Windows domain

    Hi all
I've recently updated my domaincontrollers to R2 2012 WIndows, and I installed vCenter on a vm through the ovf appliance. After you have configured the vCenter in the web gui, I can join the domain successfully and the virtual center appears in the field. After a restart of the virtualcenter, I'm not able to find the field in the client to vcenter under permissions. (version vCenter: VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-5.5.0.5101-1398493)

Someone at - it a tip on how to fix this?

You must login to webclient using [email protected] and navigate to the SSO configuration. Select your ad that you added and make this default domain. This makes the announcement should appear in the menu drop-down.

  • vCenter tip only on a domain controller?

I have 3 domain controllers (Windows 2003R2) no virtualized and then 3 x 4.1 ESXi hosts that also have a VM virtualized vCenter.  Access to vCenter is controlled via Active Directory.

I would like to take his retirement one of my old domain controllers, so I moved all the roles of it etc. as usual, then close to see if everything has failed.   I'm still 2 other DCs/GCs.  All computers in Desktop/server/user services are still working fine, but vSphere stopped accepting logons and gave me this in the event log.

The directory server doesn't have to update the ADAM serviceConnectionPoint object in Active Directory. This operation will be retried.

    Additional data

    Object SCP DN:
CN = {40130314-98b1-4511-977f-3c890bf33946}, CN = VCENTRE, UO member servers, DC = fal =, DC = local
    Error value:
58 the specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
    Server error:
    (n/a)
    Internal ID:
    3390067
    ADAM service account:
    AUTHORITY NT\SERVICE NETWORK

    User action

If ADAM is running under a local account, it cannot update the data in Active Directory. Remember to change the ADAM to NetworkService service account or a domain account.

If ADAM is running under a domain user account, make sure that this account has sufficient rights to update the serviceConnectionPoint object.

Object publishing ServiceConnectionPoint can be disabled for this instance of the attribute msDS-DisableForInstances parameter on the publication of SCP configuration object.

It seems to me that it is only by looking at the DC I had off ready to retire (called DC1 while my other are DC2 and DC3).  How can I make sure vSphere is not bound to a specific domain controller, as I guess that's what's happened here?

    Thank you
    Andy

  • Displacement of the ESX 4.0 host a VCenter server in different Windows domain

    Hi people,

Current situation: two ESX 4.0 host controlled by a VCenter 4.0 Server (Cluster) within a Windows Server 2003 - field. All the user access control is done with the users in the domain of the old domain. The cluster and all the VMS are running fine without any problem.

There is a Windows 2008 domain. We want to set up a new server VCenter 4.0 inside the new domain and move both ESX 4.0 hosts to the new cluster / VCenter Server 4.0.

What is the right way to do it without block me out Vcenter / ESX?

    1) implemented the new vcenter one create a cluster

    (2) removing both the old cluster ESX servers

    (3) joining the two ESX servers to the new cluster

    (4) granting the domain users from access to the new domain to virtual machines...

    Is it really that easy?

Should which accounts I include both ESX hosts to the new vcenter/cluster? The root-password? We have forgotten, but there is a way to reset it (single user mode), this shouldn't be a big problem.

Thank you for your kind support,

    Wolfgang

You must add the hosts to the new cluster through their DNS names and supply the root password when prompted.

Make sure that select "piggyback pools of resources of the host" If you want to keep your pools on the new vCenter. To do this you must enable DRS in the new cluster too.

  • Installation of vCenter 4.1 as a domain user

I installed vCenter one several times but already when I installed vCenter I ran the installation as an administrator and checked "use the SYSTEM account" option during installalation. I recently read a document of security on vCenter and he mentioned vCenter installation as a domain user that has local administrative access on the computer where is installed vCenter. To test this feature, I created a user in Active Directory that is running on Windows Server 2008 Standard and attempted to add this user to the local "Administrators" group of the server vCenter will install on (not in the ad). When I tried to add the user I got an error message stating that "user X is already a member of the"Administrators"group.

I did a google search on that error message and found out that basically unless you use what is called a small group it is not possible to add a user domain user to a local group. If this is true then everyone is how to install vCenter without using the SYSTEM account. My goal in this configuration is to install vCenter and allow users to connect to vCenter using it AD user name and password. I would like to Manager user rights using a combination of groups of ads and roles of vCenter. This environment is small and uses SQL Express as the backend vCenter.

As you can probably I'm not an expert AD so if there is something that I was completely misunderstanding do not hesitate to say.

    Thank you!

    The steps are correct.

Sounds like you have a GPO that block users in local administrator:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756802.aspx

Or if you have some duplicate SID...

How did you create the Windows Server? Perhaps with a clone?

  • vCenter server join to the domain after installation

    Hello

I have a windows 2003 with sql Server 2005 in the WORKING Group on this server, I installed virtual center 2.5 now I want to migrate to vcenter 4, but first I have to join to the domain.

Can perform the join to the domain of this server without problem?

    Thank you

    Fabio Storni

Yes it should be no problem to joing your Windows 2003 virtual machine to the domain - this will not affect your VC server.

  • Need to know how to turn an old server Novell Netware 3.12 in a virtual machine on Vmware Workstation 5.5.3

I'm a complete newbie to this. I have an old network of Novell server a 3.12 server and a ms - dos workstation running Novell client software. The underlying operating system on butterfly os server and workstations working MS - Dos 5.0. The material is old and fails at some point.

I need to put everything in virtual machines. The ultimate goal is to run the Novell server in a vmware player on Windows Server 2003 and run the Novell Workstation in a vmware player running on a Windows XP workstation, so that the old, unreliable material can be discarded.

My VMware software is VMWare Workstation 5.5.3 build-34685. The operating system host, such as reported by VMWare Workstation, Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600, Service Pack 3 is.

I have a backup of the entire drive of the Novell server in a tar archive.

I've never done anything like this before, and I have no idea how to even start.

I'll need a lot of help.

    What I do first. ?

3.12 is a version really old - I'm not even sure that it will work?

    .

In any case - first try to create a 'new' installation of Netware 3.12 - if it works you can use as a reference.

    Try to set

    guestOS = "netware4."

    in the vmx file

  • VCenter deployment issues 6 - domain SSO

    Hello

I have a problem my head around defining the domain of SINGLE sign-on in my new vSphere deployment package 6.0. I have a domain active directory (server.local) and installing vCenter 6, you are prompted for the SSO domain name (default is vsphere.local). What I want to know, it is important that name and what is the impact of the choice or change default name? The reason for my question is the following:

    1. we have a vSphere/vCenter 5.5 for our domain infrastructure deployment and the application that uses vsphere.local as the domain of SINGLE sign-on.

    2. I am deploying a new environment 6.0 vSphere/vcenter for a new VDI environment.

    3. I will deploy a second 6.0 environment vSphere/vCenter for a second VDI environment.

    4. I will use more connected between two vCenter environment 6 because I want to keep totally separate.

In factoring, is it safe to use vsphere.local for my first 6.0 deployment even if I use vsphere.local for my production environment 5.5 already? If it is OK, then is it OK to use vsphere.local for both of my 6.0 vSphere deployments, even if all three environments will be authenticating against the domain active directory domain.local? The domain authentication UNIQUE write anything to AD or just authenticates against it so that I can use the same SSO domain in three distinct environments without negative impact?

Any help with sort my confusion with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

Yes, it is safe to use the same domain name SSO for multiple deployments of vSphere, even if you use the same Active Directory domain as a source of identity. Don't forget that before vCenter 6, you are not able to change the domain name from SSO for anything other than the vsphere.local and this has never been a limit to how many vCenter Server can be deployed and configured to use the same Active Directory domain.

  • How to join vCenter to the domain?

Some manuals of vmware said this required field of vCenter to operate, while some have said that vCenter can work in without domain name working group. In any case, when I try to add that the installed Virtual Machine where vCenter is installed on the domain and reboot, I can't not to connect to vCenter using the VI Client. vCenter IP is also not to ping requests.

After the connection to the host ESX IP directly with the VI Client and VM vCenter for network access back to the Working Group, I am able to access and ping the vCenter. Why is it so?

    I'm glad it helped!

    Please award points if apropriate...
