VCenter Server 2012 5.1 U1

I try to install vCenter Server R2 2012 and I have absolutely no chance.  I tried to use sql 2008 and then when it does not work I tried with 2012.  Same "error".  I put it in quotes because I made you a mistake, the installation program just hangs.  It freezes every time "Installation of directory services.

I tried in a workgroup, same problem.

Joined to a domain and I tried again.  Same question.

I can't understand it at all.  If someone can point me in the right direction or has experienced this problem please help.  I googled for hours and can't seem to find someone who has this problem.

Thanks in advance

Services are created during the installation, but they will not start. When I try to run the installer again, it generates this error log. I hope that there is an easy solution for this.

vCenter Server 5.1 is not currently supported on Windows 2012. However, given that the support for Windows 2012 has been added for vCenter 5.0 Update 2, I expect to see this with one of the next vCenter Server 5.1 updates.

In any case, take a look at for example http://vniklas.djungeln.se/2012/09/14/installing-vsphere-vcenter-5-1-on-windows-2012/ which explains the dependency of the service vpxd and how to vCenter Server 5.1 running on Windows 2012. Although this may work, please carefully consider whether you want to use in the production environment.

Well, I would consider making the following if you have an existing database of VC.

    -Take the DB backup file.

-Install SQL and restore the DB on the new server.

-Install the VC and connect ODBC etc...

  • SQL Server edition full for vCenter Server 6.0

    Hello

Just learn that vCenter 6.0 does not support SQL Server Express.

We intend to use SQL Server 2008R2 as the database of vCenter Server 6.

We would like to ask for your opinion if we should use the full 32-bit or 64-bit SQL Server Edition?  For SQL Server Express, 64 - Bit is used, I think that we need to use 64 bits one, is this correct?

    Your opinion is requested.

Just learn that vCenter 6.0 does not support SQL Server Express.

The Windows 6.0 vCenter dropped the integrated SQL Express, BUT instead, it comes with a SQL database vPostgres shipped to replace it with similar restrictions. You don't need to install your own SQL server if you're ok with these limits. See the following article:

vSphere 6 - clarify misinformation. VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

Databases are supported for installing windows SQL 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014, Oracle 11g and 12 c as well as the possibility of using an embedded database vPostgres on windows vPostgres is limited to 20 guests and 200 VMs. Upgrades where SQL express is installed will be converted to vPostgres. The vCenter Server Appliance supports the vPostgres shipped to full scale, the host of 1000 and 10,000 virtual computers and is the database recommended for vCenter server unit. Oracle 11g and c 12 external databases are also supported for this version, look for these to drop in the future releases.

It is also possible to keep an existing SQL Express DB when you perform an upgrade:

VMware KB: Upgrade vCenter Server 6.0 without migration of the SQL database to vPostgres

If you use your own SQL server to go with a 64-bit version and stick them on products VMware interoperability Matrices.

  • VCenter Server to a new server transfer

    Hello
I'm doing an update from the 2008 to the 2012r2 server.  I was wondering how to spend my vCenter server.

We are running the essentials package.

I thought just build a new server, the connection my hosts in vCenter and then close and delete the old server?
My thought process is correct, or is there something else I need to do along the way?

    Hello

The important thing to know with vCenter is the majority of your important information in the SQL database. You're right, install a new instance of vCenter on your new Server R2 of 2012 is the best way to go and make sure that you connect to your existing SQL DB.

What version of vCenter/ESXi are you running? 5.5? There are a few other things to consider before proceeding, as the backup of your configuration of SSO and service inventory? Do you use things such as tags in the web client? Is your particularly complicated configuration of SSO? If this isn't the case, then you can probably not bother with their backup and restoration.

If it were me, I'd do the following as a rough plan:

    (1) save the SQL DB to be 100% sure.

    (2) off your old server.

    (3) configure the new server with the old server's IP address. Make the necessary DNS changes.

    (4) 2012 R2 server Setup again.

    (5) for mounting and you are prompted, use an ODBC connection created in your existing SQL DB.

    (6) all the components and installation vCenter.

    (7) test of

There would be other options to restore SSO / inventory if you want too.

The plan to uninstall or disable the new server, restore your DB back backup and power on your old server.

Happy to help you further if necessary!

There is a difference between the vCenter Server and vSphere editions. Also the article you posted was for vSphere 4.

  • VCenter Server Update

In an environment with hosts of ESXi and vCenter server, ESXi 5.0 hosts have been updated to update the 2 just now. Everything works fine, however, Server 2012 64 bit does not appear as an option when you create a virtual computer in vCenter with the vSphere client. Research indicates prerequisites 2 update is necessary to do so, that is applied to the ESXi hosts. The vCenter server has not been updated and it is not possible to still go to U3. ISO has been uploaded to the vCenter update 2 with modules. What is the procedure to update the vCenter server. The update can be checked before hand and guests must stand, so I wanted to just get a sense of the update. What is the executable launched just for the new ISO? The installation as an update or new feature will install? Guests must go down? Thank you very much in advance for any help.

Yes, simply run the installer of vCenter and media when prompted on the vCenter server database, select upgrade the existing vcenter Server database... your virtual machines will not be affected and do not need to be moved to another host.

To configure DNS on the vCSA change the Type of address to SLAAC-IPv6 first and you can add DNS server address and the host name.

  • VMWare vCenter Server Appliance / 2012R2 Windows domain

    Hi all
I've recently updated my domaincontrollers to R2 2012 WIndows, and I installed vCenter on a vm through the ovf appliance. After you have configured the vCenter in the web gui, I can join the domain successfully and the virtual center appears in the field. After a restart of the virtualcenter, I'm not able to find the field in the client to vcenter under permissions. (version vCenter: VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-5.5.0.5101-1398493)

Someone at - it a tip on how to fix this?

You must login to webclient using [email protected] and navigate to the SSO configuration. Select your ad that you added and make this default domain. This makes the announcement should appear in the menu drop-down.

  • To another server to Vcenter Server

I am currently in the process of planning a move / upgrade vCenter server, the current version, we are on East 5.1.0 would you recommend to install the same version as a 'move' and then making a separate upgrade regarding the jump since 5.1.0 to 5.5.0?

Is the current version of the machine I'm on vCenter Server R2 2012 / SQL 2012, I hope go vcenter server to another machine by keeping the database in place but wanted to know if it would be wise to simply start the installation for 5.5.0 on the new machine and then report it to the previous database, or would it cause problems?

    Hi Zade,

In some cases, I see that if you install vSphere 5.5, pointing to vCenter old DB 5.1 can be a problem. I recommend you to install vCenter 5.1 on the new machine, make sure that everything is good, then proceed to the upgrade to vCenter server 5.5.
