vCenter Server - rename the config files and moving datastore

Our vCenter VMware Server (4.1.0) is a virtual machine. The vCenter Server database is stored on a SQL Server that is also a virtual machine. The configuration files for the server vCenter and file a vmdk are located on a data store and the other vmdk file is located on another data store. This isn't a problem, but the parent folders that store these files have different names and do not reflect the name of the vCenter Server VM. Also the names of configuration files are different for the vmdk file names. I would like to move and rename files vmdk my vCenter Server to another data store and all the configuration files so that the parent folder that stores all the files has the same name as my vCenter Server VM and all of the files in the folder are on behalf of my vCenter Server VM.

What would be the best way to do this? Can I install the stand-alone converter on the vcenter Server and migrate the server? I have a vCenter Server Standard license. Thank you.

as above, use storage vmotion if possible else, you can use vmware converter...

    Hi all

    Is it possible to rename a local file, using the files Panel and have the Dreamweaver automatically update the same name of the file on the remote server?

    Added the link update function, it would be very quick to update a file name in the code, the local site and the remote site.

  • Cannot start web server on the executable file

    Hello

    We have a problem with a Web server - we cannot get to initialize the help of nodes of property or the ini on a compiled executable file.

    As part of our application, we are starting the Web server to publish a status page to be read remotely. This works very well when we are running in the development environment and also when we run an executable a PC with installed development environment, however it will not boot on a PC with just the runtime installed.

    I have attached some of the code that functionally does exactly the same thing in our main application. I used this as my Tester code and built in an exe while trying a lot of different things to fix.

    When executing:

    • The code will sit in the while loop until I press stop.
    • Web server: Active Server = FALSE
    • Out error = ERROR No.

    In the full application the while loop waits a few seconds before throw an error if the server is not started. In this example, I can let the loop running for awhile without leave. Normally, the boot time is<50ms when="">

    It's the ini file to the executable file:

    [WebTest]
    server.app.propertiesEnabled = True
    Server.OLE.Enabled = True
    server.tcp.serviceName = "My Server computer/VI"
    server.vi.propertiesEnabled = True
    WebServer.Enabled = True
    WebServer.TcpAccess = "' + * '"
    WebServer.ViAccess = "' + * '"
    DebugServerEnabled = False
    DebugServerWaitOnLaunch = False

    And it is the Web server configuration file:

    ErrorLog "$LVSERVER_ROOT/logs/error.log".
    LogLevel 3
    The default server name
    DocumentRoot "$LVSERVER_ROOT /... /.. '. "/ www".
    Listen 8000
    ThreadLimit 10
    TypesConfig "$LVSERVER_ROOT/mime.types»
    DirectoryIndex index.html
    LoadModulePath "$LVSERVER_ROOT/modules '" $LVSERVER_ROOT/LVModules "" $LVSERVER_ROOT /... ".
    LoadModule LVAuth lvauthmodule
    LoadModule LVSnapshot lvsnapshotmodule
    LoadModule LVRFP lvrfpmodule
    LoadModule dir libdirModule
    LoadModule copy libcopyModule

    AddHandler LVAuthHandler
    AddHandler LVSnapshotHandler .snap
    AddHandler LVRFPHandler

    AddHandler dirHandler
    AddHandler copyHandler

    "CustomLog"$LVSERVER_ROOT/logs/access.log"'%%u %t \"%r\ hour' % > s %b.
    KeepAlive on
    KeepAliveTimeout 60
    Timeout 60

    As can side note, anyone tell me where the $LVSERVER_ROOT variable is configured?

    I tried the things:

    • Copy a new default configuration file before the entry into force
    • Writing a predefined file (encoded) before initializing config
    • Definition to root before initializing directory (it actually generates an error because the server is not active...)
    • Set WebServer.Active = TRUE several times inside the while loop
    • Toggle the web server in the ini file

    System:

    • LabVIEW 2010
    • PC with Windows 7 running

    Thanks for any help, because it makes me crazy slow!

    Ben

    Hi Marco, thanks for the reply.

    I have this guide was reviewed previously and had done all that he but a small section who gave me a hint of something to try and I have solved my problem, so thank you!

    If anyone is interested, here's the problem:

    The directive DocumentRoot folder in the config must exist or the Web server cannot be started. So basically, make sure that the file points to a folder that exists!

    This leaves two small annoying problems if - you can't see if the file exists (and then create it) before starting the Web server, because you can not query the path to the folder without the Web server running.

    AND

    You can't really define the configuration programmatically file as parameters from the file are responsible for execution, not on the start Web server.

    The result of this is that the config file and the folder root document should be created (and corresponding of course...) when the executable is built / installed on the system. Not a massive headache, but it means do not forget to put things in the build specification and do not rely on software to do the job at startup

    Hello

    Resolution

    Cause

    This problem can occur if an ESX host's IP address is changed while being managed by vCenter Server.

    Check the cause

    To check the cause of the problem:

    1. Log in as root to the ESX host using a SSH client.
    1. In the file etc/opt/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg, find the IP address of the host. The entry looks like:

      10.21.48.121

      Note: for more information about editing the files, see installation in VMware ESX configuration files (1017022).

    Troubleshooting

    If the IP address is incorrect, perform the following steps in order. If the operation does not resolve the problem, continue to the next step. Don't skip a step.

    1. Disconnect and then reconnect the host:
    1. Right click on the ESX host in vCenter Server and click Disconnect.
    1. Reconnect the ESX host in vCenter Server.
    1. Restart the VirtualCenter agent on the ESX host:
    1. Stop the service of vpxa with the command:

      # service vmware-vpxa stop

    1. Open the /etc/opt/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg file in a text editor and correct the IP address of the ESX host.
    1. Start the service of vpxa with the command:

      # service vmware-vpxa start

      Note: for VMware ESXi, you may have to restart all the management agents. For more information, see restart the agents on an ESX or ESXi Server (1003490) management .

    1. Rebuild the VirtualCenter agent on the ESX host configuration file:

      Attention: this step removes all the Statistics counters historical host and the virtual machine. If VMware ESX host is running in virtual machines that starts in a permitted CVS environment, you maybe won't be able to add the host without stopping the virtual machines first.

    1. Right click on the ESX host in vCenter Server and click Disconnect.
    1. Remove the ESX host disconnected from vCenter Server.
    1. Backup the file vpxa.cfg with the command:

      # mv /etc/opt/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg /etc/opt/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.oldcfg

    1. Add the ESX host disconnected to the server vCenter inventory.
    1. Run the following command to view the contents of /etc/opt/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg and confirm that the host IP address is correct:

      # cat /etc/opt/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg

  • [HELP] SMV disappeared after restart of the host - 5.5 ESXI, Vcenter Server to the same host

    I restarted the ESXI using classic Vsphere Client. Now, all virtual machines have disappeared. I tried to connect with Vsphere Client and workstation and the list is empty. I can't access the Vcenter server since it is a virtual machine that resides in the home.

    The data store is a local disk. The data store is still there and the amount of disk space used is correct. I don't see the virtual machines in the inventory. I have re-installed ESXI 5.5, refreshed of store data and what not, there is nothing there. I am freaking out and don't know what to do.

    EDIT: I am able to navigate the data store manually by creating the new virtual machine and select the existing virtual machine following this guide but I'm not sure what is the reason for which the files would be missing or corrupt

    http://techhead.co/VMware-ESX-how-to-easily-recreate-a-missing-or-corrupt-vmx-file/

    When you browse the data store you see the virtual machine and their records?

    If you see the virtual computer files, you can open the folder, right click on the .vmx file and select Add to the inventory. who will get your VM in the inventory.

  • V5 vSphere Client VI - connectivity to vCenter Server via the non-ideal DNS configuration

    Here's a theoretical question that I fight for an answer at the bottom.   For example, the question is:
    ..
    You have a VI Client in Active Directory (AD) domain n ° 1 with its own DNS, DNS #1 System.
    You have a server vCenter and ESX hosts in AD #2 with its own system DNS, DNS #2 domain
    The vCenter server and esx in AD #2 servers have DNS entries in DNS as follows #2...
    vcenter1. DNS2.com
    Esx1.DNS2.com
    ESX2. DNS2.com
    However, in AD #1 the same servers have entered DNS DNS #1 as follows...
    vcenter1. DNS1.com
    Esx1.DNS1.com
    ESX2. DNS1.com
    The VI in AD #1 client must connect properly on the vCenter server, using the DNS #1 name vcenter1.dns1.com.   It's pretty obvious.  However, what happens when you start a console KVM remotely to one of the virtual machines on VMware ESX Server?  I don't think it'll work.  I think that the VI client is trying to communicate with the service console of the ESX Server hosting the virtual machine by using the DNS entry of the ESX Server that is known to vCenter server, IE esx1.dns2.com, which is not a FULL domain name in the DNS # 1 VI client.
    I need to review this issue for VC2.5U6 with ESX 3.5U5 and an implementation of vSphere 5, even though I think that it is the same for all versions.   Incidentally, I read KB749640, talking about DNS but I don't think it covers where the VI client is a DNS domain disparate with DNS names of the esx servers different to the one known by the VC server.
    I hope the above is clear.  Can develop if necessary
    Thank you, Jan

    ESX host name is esx1.test.com.

    In provided customer vSphre the hostname for connectivity is different. for example: esx1.prod.com, however this name is directed to the same host with intellectual property.

  • Get the former locations of the data files and Redo logs

    Version: 11.2
    Platform: Solaris 10

    When we manage hundreds of DBs, we do not know the locations of all DB files these allows DBs. say a DB goes down and you have all the required RMAN backups.

    When you restore the DB in a new location in the path of the new server, you must run the commands for the data files and ORLs below. But how do we know

    The former location of the data files.

    B. the old location of redo online stores that I can run

    run
    alter database rename file 'oldPath_of_OnlineRedoLogs' to 'newPath_of_OnlineRedoLogs' ;  --- Without this command , the restored control file will still reflect the old control file location

    Hello

    With the help of Oracle 11.2, you can use feature 'set newname for database' using OMF.

    SET NEWNAME FOR DATABASE TO '/oradata/%U';
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    SWITCH DATAFILE ALL;
    SWITCH TEMPFILE ALL;
    RECOVER DATABASE;

    After the restore and recover databases (i.e. before resetlog open) you can do to rename redolog. Just a query column member from v$ logfile and deliver ' alter database rename file 'oldPath_of_OnlineRedoLogs' to 'newPath_of_OnlineRedoLogs ';

    When we use the DSO is much easier to use OMF because Oracle automatically creates the directory structure.
    But when we use the file system that the OMF does not serve due DBA dislikes system generated on file system names.

    If you don't like OMF file system, you can use the script on thread below to help restore you using readable for datafile names, tempfile, and redo.

    I made a movie of 30 minutes or more in WMM, some of the videos that I imported I had to convert to wmv, to import into WMM. Once I went to publish the movie, after the publication of about 1%, an error message pops up saying something like "cannot publish to the specified location. The error that you mentioned usually appears when the source files in the project

  • Rename the vmdk file?

    Is it possible to rename a VMDK file?

    Ive traveled to the data store and can see the vmdk file and also the - file ctk.vmdk but when I right click the option rename is gray.

    So, how do rename you?

    Thank you

    You can rename the vmdk and not rename the object itself, but the vmx file needs to point the the renamed disk files.  It is in this article, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002491, which I pointed out above.

    in the .vmx file, you will see something like

    scsi0:0.fileName = "OpenSUSE.vmdk"
