vCloud 5.1.1 to vCloud 5.5

We run vCloud 5.1.1 on top of vCenter 5.0 U1a.

What is the right way to spend these versions 5.5 and 5.5 vCenter vCloud?

I am hoping to avoid vCenter 5.1 as an intermediate step (the SSO in 5.1 Service is terrible and was fortunately re-written in 5.5).

You need to vCenter 5.1 level and POSSIBLE to 5.1 just enough long for vCloud Sync and upgrade you to newer versions on-board devices.

the upgrade of vCD will be error if you have not supported vcenters in the database of vCD.  Take care of this first and vCD is the first element to be upgraded.

vC 5.0 - 5.1

POSSIBLE 5.0 - 5.1

upgrade of the edges

You should be a configuration settings for 5.5 support

vCloud Director to 5.5 upgrade

-upgrade POSSIBLE to 5.5

-upgrade vCenter to 5.5

complete the alternative... to deploy a new kit entirely from 5.5 installers and work from there.

  • MCAK for vCloud Director 5.1

    Hello

We use the most recent MultiCloud since vCloud Director but now look at upgrading to vCenter vCloud Director 5.1.

I had seen a mention of help soon with version 5.1 of vCD, but did not see if it is available, or in what version it will be.

Would you be able to give an indication of support for this version, please?

    Kind regards

    Paul

You should have no problem with the latest version of MCAK vCloud Director 5.1. All the features of the IAC has been verified. What is not yet supported is 5.1 VCD API, so you would not be able to take advantage of the new features of the product/API with the adapter IN VCD (although you can always write your own custom using HTTP requests process to call the new REST API directly).

  • What is the smallest model of VAPP available that can be used with vCloud Director?

    Hi all

See this post from Christophe Decanini showing how to get the object of vCloud:VM VC:VirtualMachine - https://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-24307

Here is the script code; entries are 'vm' of type vCloudVM (vCloud virtual machine) and "vcServer' of type SdkConnection (connection vCenter):

    var managedObject = new VcManagedObjectReference();
    managedObject.type = "VirtualMachine";

  • 6 ESX access no VM network to vCloud

    Hello

I am a student in the Netherlands. I study and learn more about ESX, VDI, RDS etc. we use vCloud to provide a test environment to install these applications and hypervisors.

Because I have no homelab I use vCloud to learn more about VDI. The process that I took was install ESX in a paralytic with Open-E DSS as iSCSI storage. ESX installation is complete as it should be and the Windows Server 2012 VM in the TIME that I was trying to push vCenter as a virtual machine on an ESX host. Is installed as it should and I got an ip address + port number to access the page. Unfortunately I couldn't access the vCenter page nor could I ping the virtual machine. I can access my ESX through enforcement of a vSphere.

    What I tried:

-Install multiple NICS on the virtual machine. I used different network adapters E1000 or VMXNET3 but that did not work.

-Install a Windows 8 VM to see if it was a problem of vCenter vCloud 6. Neither the VM W8 got access to the network.

I think it's a restriction on vCloud network administrator does not yet know. It's the first year, they used vCloud as a working environment for all students.

  • VMware vCloud Director with the NSX Manager installation process.

    Hello world

I recently planned to deploy VMware vCloud Director (so NSX Manager will be deployed, as part of the process) on an existing environment (existing virtual machines running, virtual switches,...).

Customers use their virtual machines because they are in production.

I was wondering if the deployment / installation of NSX Manager would cause no downtime or disturb the workflows running or even break the VM interconnections?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lawrence B.

I looked at many tutorials, and indeed nothing should happen so that deploy a controller or something else. My concerns were about this "else", as the virtual switches and so on. I guess that the NSX will show existing resources such as the existing virtual switches (and so forth) already configured with vCenter?

What vCloud Director does is interact with NSX via API.  Calls are exclusive to VXLAN (vdnscope-# resources in the API) and demand to deploy or update an edge.  vCD is not 'show' resources discovered by NSX.  You configure NSX and vCD makes an API call and said ' I want a Board connected to the port groups A and B "or"I want a new vWire of this VXLAN instance.

Is there a document with the "best practices" for the deployment of vCD?

Yes: VMware vCloud Architecture Toolkit: Cloud Computing reference Architecture | United States

The meddle with existing resources, must have dedicated resources for the vCD vendor (aka the cluster in vCenter).  It is better to have that then using a pool of resources to a cluster where neighbour noisy problems can arise.  vCAT above might exceed a lot of that when you read it.

  • List vCloud organization Org VCT, VMs and metadata of a VM field

How can I use PowerCLI to quickly list the organizations vCloud, Org VCT, VMs and metadata of the computer called 'rent virtual field '?

I want to do by using the views, but I can't find information on how to do it, especially the part of metadata.

    Any ideas?

It is simple to find info from metadata.

Make sure that you have imported the following module:

    Import-Module Vmware.VimAutomation.Cloud

You must connect first to vcloud Director with the following command:

    User to be connect-CIServer - Server - - password - org

Then, you need information of VM with the command Get-CIVM as:

    $vmv = get-CIVM | Sort-Object-property name

Then, you need to get the VM metadata information with. ExtensionData.GetMetadata (as):

    Foreach ($vm $vmv) {$Metadata = $vm. ExtensionData.GetMetadata ()}

If the metadata entry is not inserted until the property $Metadata.MetadataEntry.Count is 0.

If not, you can take the metadata information Vlue of the field named location like this:

    $MetaValue = $Metadata.MetadataEntry [[array]: indexof ($Metadata.MetadataEntry.Key, "Location")]. TypedValue.Value

Sctipt together to get the metadata should be something like this: (replace the values of vclouddirector, username and password with your)

    Import-Module Vmware.VimAutomation.Cloud

    Connect-CIServer-Server - of the username-password - org

    $vmv = get-CIVM | Sort-Object-property name

    {Foreach ($vm to $vmv)

    $Metadata = $vm. ExtensionData.GetMetadata)

    $MetaValue = $Metadata.MetadataEntry [[array]: indexof ($Metadata.MetadataEntry.Key, "Location")]. TypedValue.Value

    Write-Host $vm + $MetaValue

    }

    If ($global: DefaultCIServers.Count - gt 0) {Disconnect-CIServer-server * - force - confirm: $false} #For disconnect

    Hello David,.

I read that vCloud Air currently does not support the SRM and the lowest RPO is 15 minutes.

Can we expect major SRM and RPO Times, updates this year?

    Hello

As we previously announced, we are working on a product called Air SRM.  This product is not intended to integrate with the SRM prem, but rather a tool of orchestration and payback for vCloud Air DR plan.  The output of Air of SRM in vCloud DR Air is planned for the second half of this year.

Lower RPO time is an element of the road map, and the target release date is announced later this year.

    3. anyone know if vRO works closely with vCloud Director 5.6? I found 5.5.1.2 plugin, but using this plugin, I can not connect to vCD (in vCO 5.5.2 I have no problem).

    Hello

    (1) Yes, plugin configuration is workflow (this is the approach recommended new plug-ins; the old configuration of Web UI is deprecated and will be removed at some point).

    (2) only the SSO mode is supported; LDAP won't work. Note that the UNIQUE authentication token is acquired in the name of the user logged in vSphere client to Web, so you must make sure that this user has enough permissions to connect to vRO.

    (3) it should be newer versions of this plugin, and compatibility matrix showing which plugin version is compatible with given the vCD. Don't know where it is, however.

When I click Properties. VAPP and comments properties tab, my custom property appears and has a text box for me to change.  The problem is that no matter what I do, the value in the text box never seems to be persistent.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Looks like I answered my own question.

It seems that I can change the ownership of comments customized during deployment of a model.  That's all that I really need so I'll mark this as answered.

Turn of the DRS in vCenter as a temporary solution.  If you can then deploy, this is definitely the storage associated with DRS.

More recent versions of vCenter have improvements to speed up the result returned SDR recommend a data store for the placement of the VM.

  • Move the VM from: vCloud director to vCenter

How to move a virtual machine from: vcloud director to the vcenter even integrated into vcloud Director?

If VCD has no more need of this virtual machine, you can perform steps below.

1 unregister the virtual of VC machine

2 remove the machine virtual de VCD

    3. save the VM in VC

SCR would be an additional tool that would be useful for moving loads of work, but a lot depends on number of cases of use of involved and of the virtual computer.
