VCSA upgrade considerations

We are currently on U2 5.0 and go to 5.5.  I guess that you always first want to vCenter Server and that is why we seek to implement the vCenter Server Appliance.  Thought that if there are problems with the implementation we still have the old Server vCenter to fall back on (no worries on the reconstruction of the database).  The question I have is am I correct in my thinking to upgrade process to VCSA and I can implement third-party plugins such as VSI EMC unit?

I don't think that VSI plugin is still out for web client.

  • First laptop upgrade considerations.

    I am considering a new laptop of not more than $1500 for w/color correction effects, if some first Pro CC video editing effects. I'll upgrade my current laptop that is about 5 years old, a Sony Vaio laptop, VPCF215FX, 6 GB of RAM, 16 "display, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540 M w/1 GB. A couple of years, I've replaced the internal HD with a Samsung 850 PRO 1 TB SSD. Here's what I'm thinking...

    1. Get a new system with minimal cost for SSD or HD and simply swap my existing owned 1 TB SSD when arrives the new system. This will save on the cost of SSD.

    1. As I get with 6 GB of RAM today, it is normal for me to go for only 8 GB or 16 GB maybe. Maybe if I get 8 GB, be sure that I can add 8 later if you wish.

    1. I currently have a 16 "display which is tight... should I therefore avoid 15" game systems, such as the Dell laptops... great prices their but they are only 15 "poster. The 17 "Dell Inspiron with processors that have less cache of what I see. ASUS has two systems of 17 "I found, noted below.

    I don't do 4K today, just 1080 p.

    For the 17 "options, I see the following systems from ASUS...

    ASUS ROG GL752VW- DH74

    http://store.ASUS.com/us/item/201510AM170008067/A18486

    (with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 M 4 GB)

    ASUS ROG G751JY- VS71 (WX)

    http://store.ASUS.com/us/item/201603AM300000146/A18486

    (with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 M 4 GB)

    I think that this last above G751JY allows a second HD so I can add the SSD. I don't think that the GL752VW has a second option of storage.

    Is the NVIDIA 980 M good for first? I can't find it on any official Adobe recommended lists of GPUS.

    I'm curious to know if you think I'm doing good considerations here? Don't forget, I'm not a pro, yet in any case user and 4K is not necessary... I have no 4 k doesn't equip, no plans for everything.  Thank you.

    the gtx 980 m is overkill for your HD projects and the gtx 960 territory m is quite slow. the gtx 965 m would be nice, or the gtx 970 m if you plan to use a large number of gpu fx and lumetri color. the new series of 1000 gtx for laptops should be out in a month or two. they will be exaggerated to HD as well, but can help to reduce prices on the gtx 900 series mobile phones.

    as you shop around to watch carefully for the i7 processor, it's the HQ model and not the u. the model U is half the speed, but is sometimes almost the same price as some of the cheaper models of HQ. I would try to get one with 16 GB of memory. If you get one with 8 GB with upgrade plans, you may need to check if the laptop comes with 1 stick of memory of 8 GB or 2 sticks of 4 GB. some laptops asus and msi have signs of fast to easily upgrade memory access and storage. You can download and watch manuals or videos of youtube for notebook computers that you plan to see what types of upgrades are possible.

    I'd also look for a laptop that can hold two storage drives. one for os/apps and other media projects. some laptops have a small 128-256 GB ssd + hdd 1 TB, which would be good for the program installation and you would just swap hard disk of 1 TB for your ssd pro 850. You can also get a usb external 2.5 box "disc to activate the 1 TB hard drive in a storage/backup usb drive. You can use newegg for laptops of filter specifications as the processor i7, 16 GB of memory, screen size, models 965 m and 970 m, to quickly refine your search for laptop computers.

  • Upgrade of the VCSA Server 6.0 question

    So I've published partially in another thread, but now think it's worthy of its own question and explanation.

    I have 2 sites with a 5.5 VCSA deployed to everyone and now you can add vRA to the environment before adding I want to back to 6.0.  What I see is a general idea that when there is doubt separate the PSC to vcenter.  So, how do VCSA 5.5 6.0 VCSA with external PSC?  I saw a mention of the change in the environment before moving on to 6, but I think it's all installations of windows based; as I can't find any external sso type unit for version 5.5 (identity server has failed).  I decided to try and deploy to 5.5 and 6.0 PSC vcsa then cross the vm KB 2094888 but no luck there.  I try not to use inventory backup / restoration of the tool, but it's the only option that I can find.

    So, to sum up how to 5.5 VCSA VCSA with external PSC 6.0?

    Offers built-in level only vCenter Server Appliance U3 5.1 or newer and 5.5 with SSO are supported. vCenter Server Appliance 5.1 U2 or more don't are not supported. vCenter Server Appliance U3 5.1 or newer and with external SSO 5.5 are not supported. A supported upgrade path is planned for a future release.

    Replace the certificate turned out to be a little more work than expected. I created a new certificate (signed by our internal CA) with subjectAltName DNS =(vcenter fqdn) and = (vcenter ip) IP. According to the documentation for VMware, we only need a few commands to obtain these certificates installed, but nevermind:

    / usr/sbin/vpxd_servicecfg change chain.pem rui.key certificate

    has failed with error VC_CFG_RESULT = 650 code ("vCenter Server is unable to re-encrypt its various configuration settings", see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2057248). I also replaced the certificate of service inventory according to the documentation, but the vmware-vpxd service would not start again. The /var/log/vmware/vpx/vpxd.log file has an explanation:

    [- info "utilvpxdVdb"] [VpxdVdb::SetDBType] DSN connection: VMware VirtualCenter with vc username

    [- error "commonvpxCrypt"] [VpxKey::Decrypt] broken crypto: error: 0407109F:rsa routines: RSA_padding_check_PKCS1_type_2:pkcs decoding error

    [- error "commonvpxCertificate"] [VpxdCert] Unable to decrypt the password: key to encrypted data application failed (probably the wrong key)

    [- error "utilvpxdVdb"] [VpxdVdb::SetDBType]: database error: ODBC error: (00000).

    [- error "Default"] Error obtaining configuration information from the database

    [- error "vpxdvpxdMain"] [Init] Init failed: VpxdVdb::Init (VpxdVdb::GetVcVdbInstId (), false, false, NULL)

    In other words, the database password cannot be read. Since the VCSA, the password is available in clear of /etc/vmware-vpx/vcdb.properties we can just run vpxd Pei to encrypt the password again in the vpxd configuration file. This does not solve the problem with vpxd immediately although:

    [- info "utilvpxdVdb"] [VpxdVdb::SetDBType] DSN connection: VMware VirtualCenter with vc username

    [- info "Default"] [VdbSchemaLoader::LookupSchemaFromDB] Schema information and responsible for DB index

    [- info "utilvpxdDbSchemaHash"] [VpxdDbSchemaHash::GetSchemaFilename]: sqlDir: / usr/lib/vmware-vpx/sql /.

    [- error "commonvpxCrypt"] [VpxKey::Decrypt] broken crypto: error: 0407109F:rsa routines: RSA_padding_check_PKCS1_type_2:pkcs decoding error

    [- error "commonvpxCertificate"] [VpxdCert] Unable to decrypt the password: key to encrypted data application failed (probably the wrong key)

    [- error "linuxvpxLdap_linux"] [LdapBackup] A new attempt to link (1/10 attempts) in 10 seconds

    Now the problem is with the LDAP (SSO) password. We will re-encrypt that hand as well. Start by getting the SSO return of decryption password using the old key:

    grep "^ mot_passe =' /etc/vmware-vpx/instance.cfg.certChange |" Cup-c 9 - | TR-d '-' | Base64 d | Python-c "import sys".

    data = sys.stdin.read)

    data_len = len (data)

    I'm in range (data_len):

    sys.stdout.Write(Data[data_len-i-1])

    " | OpenSSL rsautl-/ssl/old.key inkey - pkcs - decrypt

    Then re - encrypt the password with the new key:

    echo - n decrypted word of past | OpenSSL rsautl-/etc/vmware-vpx/ssl/rui.key inkey - pkcs - encrypt | Python-c "import sys".

    data = sys.stdin.read)

    data_len = len (data)

    I'm in range (data_len):

    sys.stdout.Write(Data[data_len-i-1])

    " | Base64-w0 | SED / = / \ / g ='

    We put this value encrypted as mot_passe = in the configuration etc/vmware-vpx/instance.cfg file.

    Today, vmware-vpxd will start correctly (I rebooted just to be sure) and the VCSA Upgrade Wizard migrated from the instance, including the complete inventory, without problems. Now all that remains is to find How to install customized VCSA 6.0 SSL certificates.

    Hi, I am running Windows XP and I would like to install Windows 7 in order to play DVDs.  I pay for the upgrade?  I am not very computer, is - this easy to install so free.
    Thank you

    First of all, you need not to install Windows 7 to play the DVD.  WinXP is perfectly capable of reading DVDs, as long as you have a DVD drive and the drivers appropriate devices and Codecs installed.

    Yes, if you want to upgrade to Windows 7, you will need to buy at least a license upgrade.  However, the "ease" of the upgrade process is relative, based almost entirely on your level of knowledge and skills.  In general, the process is fairly automatic: just observe the instructions on the screen.

    You should, before you continue, make sure that your computer is able to support Windows 7, and that the manufacturers of all connected devices (printer, scanner, webcam, etc.) have provided drivers for devices on Windows 7 for these items will continue to work.

    Crashed my MOBO and I'm trying to replace the mobo and processor to upgrade the system.  I was running XP and is considering upgrading to Windows 7.  Since I have to reload Windows XP and the loss of everything on the hard drive, I plan to replace the HD.  Can I go directly to 7 or what I need to load XP first and then upgrade?

    First, you must decide whether to buy Windows 7 as an upgrade CD or a full commercial license holder.  A full retail version costs more than a version upgrade.  However, if you buy Windows 7 with full commercial license, you will avoid potential problems, as there is certainly no need to re - install Win XP.

    A clean install is always preferable to an upgrade, and in all cases, it is not possible to upgrade directly from Windows XP to Windows 7.  Even if you use a CD 'upgrade', you will need to perform a "Custom" or new installation of Windows 7.  A custom installation replaces not only Windows XP. It also replaces everything on the hard drive.

    In the past, you can use a CD to upgrade - to perform a new installation of a newer operating system.  For example, if you inserted a CD with version upgrade of Windows XP, the process could find a precedent (and real installation of Windows 98).  If this search detected Windows 98, the CD would be upgrading Windows 98 to Windows XP.

    If the search has not detected a previous installation of Windows 98 (on a new hard drive or recently formatted), it could prompt the user to insert his old CD of Windows 98.  After checking the validity of the Windows 98 CD, the CD 'upgrade' would continue the installation of Windows XP - as a new installation.

    According to the Microsoft website, all editions of Windows XP are eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 - so if you use Win XP on your PC, Microsoft recommends that you buy a package labeled "Upgrade".  However, I don't know if the previous procedure will allow you to perform a new installation of Windows 7 on a new hard drive.  If this isn't the case, you might need to reinstall and validate Windows XP first, simply to confirm your eligibility for the upgrade version.

    Hi marsykes,

    Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

    Microsoft has already stated that the Windows 7 upgrade package will allow you to upgrade to Windows XP, but you need to perform a new installation of the program (the upgrade disks can do a clean install). Microsoft has already certified that the updated Package will include a disc each for 32-bit and 64-bit in the same package. Windows Vista users can do an 'upgrade' on top of their existing operating system and save their current program settings, but Windows XP users will have to format the hard drive and start from the beginning with the same DVD disc software.

    IHaving tried to solve a recent problem that occurs with Windows Update (error Code 80070490) I read and try different things that have been suggested on this forum. It appears after trying the SFC, there are a few problems with the registry that cannot be resolved automatically. I tried the automatic Microsoft difficulty he 50202 but that does not solve it. I tried a system restore, but there is no restore point before the update I managed successfully to do (31 October 2009). So finally, I tried the repair facility that suggest the majority of people. I've had this laptop since February 2009, and Vista was preinstalled. I have the DVD of resettlement for Vista Home Premium 32 BIT and have not added anything about myself, but when I try to do the upgrade to install it says it is disabled and that he needs at least a current version or the more recent than the version I am running. I don't see how it can be less common because it is the version that I've been running for 9 months and the DVD that I was sent with the laptop. I am now on the ideas and suggestions...

    Fraser,
    Well restoring factory would correct any problems if they are strictly related to software.

    If you do a normal upgrade to Windows 7 and the problems you are currently experiencing are the question within the registry, then it is likely that they could remain after the upgrade.  Now, if you perform a Custom Installation upgrade press she will move to your current Windows directory to a new folder (Windows.old) and then it will install properly.  Of course, with this option, you will need to reinstall your applications.
    If you buy a copy of Windows 7 in another country just make sure that you get the correct language and that it is a valid copy.  (Also check the version of Windows.)  You shouldn't have any problems once you get back.  Here are some links with information about Windows 7 and upgrade considerations.

    I hope this helps.

    I bought a copy of Windows 7 upgrade to install on my machine. However, before that I had the chance to install it, my HD crashed. I've been blocked from buying a new drive. I was trying to run Ubuntu on it, I decided that I needed the Windows interface to my design work. (I use Adobe Indesign that does work very well with Linux) After formatting the drive, I went to reinstall XP to update 7 (due to the fact that my license will not allow for a clean installation). When I go to install Xp, it will not accept my license key that worked for her, until the previous drive crashed. Is there anyway that I can get XP to install so that I can update to 7 and with it, without having to buy another license for 7 or xp?

    You don't have a full version of Windows 7 from Windows XP to Windows 7.  You can use a Windows 7 upgrade version to perform a custom (clean) installation.  But you must have Windows XP installed and running first.  Details here:

    My dilemma is I can not decide to continue their studies for VCP4, or stop to study and wait for the VCP5 material becomes available.  Because in all honesty I won't be able to take the test until August and then test VCP4 may no longer be available.  All advice is appreciated.

    It was never an 'upgrade' consideration, but there will be a course on 'what's new '. At this point, we cannot assume that VMware will follow they did 3-4, which would mean that the incumbent VCP4 will be provided to attend the who's new course to qualify for the VCP5 - you have to only take the new exam. Those who have a 4 but earned no VCP4 training must attend what's new. The exemption for VCP4 holders would not be for some time, not indefinitely.
