VDR backup space

What remains the fastest way to the ability to see on a backup destination?

I found that if I go through the work of "backup", I can see it's the only way to control the space left. Is there enough space left, then I can increase the retention time.

Thank you

I'm running a windows with a system image backup and it is stored on a disk external hard seagate.  When I finish the backup and go to the disk image, backup and hard system are there, but he admits that he takes up to 0 bytes of space.  Backup Windows admit that it takes about 80 GB of space however. • VDR - backup of a Windows Server 2003 virtual computer crashes by 59%

    Hi @ all

an a hook two Windows Server 2003 virtual computer to 59% during the backup. Shell DataRecovy show no errors. The first two weeks it worked perfectly. 7 days, it blocks every time to 59%. All other virtual machines (Server 2000/2008, Linux etc.) work well. I tested with a new backupjob, new backup destination, the off vm, bur whenever it crashes at 59%. I hope that someone can helpd me.

VDR 1.2 was released yesterday, and this issue should be addressed by this version.

    • Data recovery backups fail to advance at the beginning of the task

In the course of the incremental backup of a virtual machine, data recovery would not make progress and the backup appliance afficheraient 100% of the CPU. This situation persisted until the reboot of the device. Even after restarting the device backup, no progress was made on the incremental backup. It was the result of using the information about the last backup backup to create a new backup.

  • Snapshots left on VMFS after VDR backup failed - how merge/delete?

Nowadays some backup did not complete successfully and I had to force the VDR devices down. Now there are still files delta because snapshots cannot be deleted successfully. I merged the snapshots via Snapshot Manager (deletion of the one called _datarecovery), but there are still some files on the VMFS.

In any case, basic disks do not seem to have snapshots (vmware-cmd <>hassnapshots returns 0). Everyone has the same problems? How can I get rid of the stereotypes, as they fill up the data store?

This virtual machine has a 20 GB drive configured, it consumes about 34 GB and I do not know how to remove stereotypes failed for backups:

  • VDR Backup device

I was wondering if I should save my camera VDR. I guess a complete disaster scenario and I wondered if the ability to restore my VM would be lost if I lost my VDR info. What is its data stored in unit VDR or vCenter db? I don't see anything about this in the documentation.

MCP,network, Linux +, VSP, VTSP, VCP

I have to be able to rebuild my configuration from scratch.

ALL the data, you need to restore your backup VDR are YOU store the target (CIFS).  If you back up the data on tape or something else you keep ALL your VDR data.

    VDR explodes.  You remove.

Install a NEW VDR.  You point to the existing VDR data store.  VDR is an existing VDR data repository.  He invites you to recataloguer / rebuild your environment.

    You say Yes.

VDR is back in action, Yes, it's as simple as that.

FRA does not support automatic growth. So if you have exhausted the space, you have to check what backups you have on it and try to move to the tape and then drive delete or just delete using the delete backup command. To increase the space within the FRA, you must have with you the additional disks that would improve your FRA.

  • Using VDR backups off-site

I have a situation where I have servers in both datacenters, VMware 3 servers in a datacenter and 1 physical system in the other. I would like to know if I could use VDR for a data center with VMware servers to back up to one network to another physical data center machine with a nas storage unit connected to the phsicle Server? can I mount the drive of the physical server in this data center to the VDR in the Vcenter Server VMware systems in the data center seprate.

Data centers are seprate and I intellectual property in two data centers...

Any ideas or help would be useful...

No problem, as long you can do windows file sharing and the VDR unit can reach the share that you'll be good to go.

  • I deleted the backup but the iCloud space does not come back?

    Hello, I'm Edding:

A few days earlier, iCloud warn me your iCloud-storage space is nearly full , so I check Storage manage my iCloud and I find backing up my iPhone and iPad are about 3 G of space above. So I delete the backup on iPhone.

BUT!, so far, the backup space deleted do not come back?

This is a shot of the screen of the Preferences system-> iCloud-> Manage

Is there something wrong with that?

    THX.

Seems like you always have space reserved for your backup. One of the fixes that worked for me was to start backup until it becomes larger, then removes it again.

I also heard that he did not work for some.

  • I have enough space on the flash drive backup but message says no space.

    Original title: complete PC Backup

I have Windows XP on my computer and try again to back up my computer before a move.  I have two 2 64 GB San disk flash disks that should accommodate more than what I have on my computer.  However, I get the message that one of flash drives is not enough, so I inserted the following - which is not big enough.  Positively, I don't have that much on my computer to consume up to 128 GB of backup space.  Do I need to use a different backup program other than that of the control panel?  Is there another one that is good, useful, fast?  Help!

If you are using in relying on the built in NT backup to back up your system, it is the primitive technology (obviously - since you will be asked for a floppy disk when it is done).  If you have a disaster (even minor), you'll have a big problem trying to retrieve your orders if you do not have a floppy drive - and maybe even if you do not have a floppy drive you are most likely still a big problem if you need to restore your stuff.

If you want to make a backup, an image, or a sort of clone of your system, it makes sense to use modern technology - and that the technology is not integrated into XP.

There are many popular options for XP Backup and imaging software (s) of third parties.

A people a popular seem to like is Acronis.

With this (free 30 day trial) you backup, you can make a bootable CD or bootable USB (which is modern, huh?) and use than disaster.

They used to have a completely free version - maybe no more - just the 30 day trial, and then you have to buy, but it is highly respected.

It is so much more robust than the XP Backup, it's laughable.

There are many other options if you do a little research on Google...

Here are a few products that other users of the forum could be appealing.  Use Google to find and read about their features and capabilities.  Some have free versions, or you can buy to get more features:

If you have a Western Digital drive, you can get a version of Acronis True Image free of WD:

    http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?Swid=119

Or you can get the backup software and cloning separately (this is not an exhaustive list and in no particular order, some are free, some not):

    Acronis True Image Home
    EASEUS ToDo Backup free
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

Some disk cloning software for you to Google ideas:

    XXClone
    Marcium account
    DriveImageXML
    Acronis True Image Home 11
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

No matter what method you choose, it is prudent to test your method of end to end to make sure that it works.

You can create a temporary folder somewhere on your system and copy a bunch of files, perform your backup, and then delete the temporary folder and don't forget that you can retrieve your backup.

The day you have your backup/restore process to work is not the day, namely that it does not work.

  • vDR (1.1) and backup on a network share

    Hello

I want to install vDR backup on a network share, but wanted to understand the best practices for the network share and if it's OK for her, which will be presented on the virtual Center Server.

Also, if I wanted to copy this network share broadband (for storage on the site off the coast) is this OK. Anything to be aware off the coast?

I read a previous post and she suggested that I need to power of the vDR device, to ensure that the store of deduplication is not in use (no integrity checks / ongoing backups). Is this the case?

    Thank you very much

If I save the Windows share on tape, outside the backup of vDR

window still would be that I have to turn off power VDR or disassemble the

    Share?

Yes, because other non-backup operations can still function.  This can cause issues of contention between VDR data and the application copies the data from the store of deduplication.

Or, I was controlling access to the share (via command line /)

changes of the authorization) to allow access during the backup window, then once

the backup window is closed I remove permissions for vDR can not

    more access the share?

Interesting idea - I had never thought about this.  Theoretically, it should work, but we have never tried on in-house.

If I have limited access to the share on time would be the vDR go up automatically?

I don't think so, you will have to do it manually.

    (b) If a backup, health checks or deletions where progress before a

share has been deleted what happened to active employment? It initiates

When sharing is restored? Any chance of corrupted data?

There is always a chance that the VDR done at that point in time.

  • Gets VDR me in hot water - ridiculous restoration time

My small business has spent a considerable amount of money on a VM/SAN solution and the power are pretty upset by the results we experienced last night.

I have an older Windows 2003 vm that I converted from a physical server and its 'thick' disc is 67 GB.  Currently, VDR backups reside on a generic NAS with a single connection GB VDR connects to the NAS server via a windows on another server share as it's my only option to networked storage.  Farm of VMware is connected to EMC SAN via a dedicated 20 GB switch "fabric".

The restoration of this virtual machine took 8 hours and management is not happy with the turn around time.

I know that I gave very superficial details, but I could hear from someone who has performed a restore of a windows file share, and what was their performance?

The design seems to suggest that data travels twice: once from the host vmware to windows box, then once in the windows for the CIFS share box.  is this true?  You can change this?

67GB in 8 hours is 2.5 MB/s, pretty crappy flow.  You have studied the time it takes simply to copy the 67GB on the NAS part down to the Windows box in the middle and without doing a restore - just copy the file?  If it is 8 hours, then you have your culprit.  If you don't have the space in the windows box, then I would be by copying both NAS NAS share with the windows box in the middle. Again, if it takes 8 hours you have your culprit.

Then I'd get a VM on this computer and copy 67 GB starting from this NAS share directly on it.

Then copy 67 GB of the Windows box in the middle of the virtual machine.

Get you my drift?  If you don't have room for 67GB, find something small you CAN go up and come and go every time.  See where is your slow link.

Just curious: was this a test restore, or restore production which has never tested?
