VEM and VSM

Hi all, I have to install a Cisco ethernet on esxi v4.0updt2 module. I'm a little confused, because I did not understand what exactly the MEC and what exacly is VSM.

I understand that I must first install VEM, which is the cisco module, but because I have esxi, I wonder how without console (I use the hidden console?)

Then I can install VSM whis a device suitable for module monitor VEM cisco Nexus.

Do I understand correctly? How I can installed VEM on esxi? Thanks in advance.

VUM is the easiet way to install the MEC on ESX and ESXi. You can activate the shell in ESXi and hand-jam the MEC in ESXi, but it is much easier through the vSphere client. Simply right click on the vDS VSM, and then add the host. The MEC will then be installed. It's in the YouTube link, I sent you before.

Ensure the VUM has a download path and that path is enabled. The custom extension of 1000v path is http://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUMPRODUCTION/csco-main-index.xml.

  • VM Exchange or SQL with instant HIT Kit and VSM

    Hello

I wonder if someone could explain a bit more on integration of VSM and HIT kit without scenario ISCSI based comments like below...

Exchange and SQL servers are run under vm on Vcenter/Vsphere 5.5 environment, and there is no comments ISCSI connection which means that all disks are vmdk.

So, based on this scenario, is it possible to use the HIT kit to restore data (granular level) even if the snapshot has been taken by VSM data store option?

    Thanks in advance...

    Hello

No, you cannot use HIT / ME in this case.   The HIT kit requires the MS ISCSI initiator to work properly. For creation and restoration of snapshots.

VSM is against the whole VMFS data store.  First VCS invites you to create snapshots, the VMware VMDK VSM will require instant volume EQL.

VSM don't offer currently not at the file level restore.  However, you can do it manually.

Bring the EQL data store snapshot online.

Connect to a node ESXi and add this snapshot of the data store to that node.

(With storage add, after a new analysis of the ESXi iSCSI initiator)

It renames the snapshot of the data store for: "snapshot - XXXXXX -

You can do a few things here.  Copy the original entire virtual disk of the snapshot to the data store. Or more generally to add the file VMDK from the snapshot on another virtual computer as another drive.

When you start the virtual computer, it will appear as a new drive letter.  Then, you can copy individual files of this copy.

An important thing to note.  When you use a snapshot, you will use instant reserve.  So make sure if you attach not already 100% instant reserve that increase you it as much as possible.  If you consume the reserve of the snapshot, you work with is removed.  According to which EQL FW version, you can borrow from the free space.  This is especially true if you replace a VMDK set.   That will use up to the reserve very quickly...

When you are finished with the EQL snapshot, make sure first that no VMs still use it.  Then put the instant EQL offline in EQL GUI.  And then do a rescan the iSCSI initiator in ESXi GUI.  This will cleanly remove the volume from the node ESXi.  Otherwise, he might try constantly to reconnect to the EQL snapshot, generating errors repeated in the EQL GUI and alerts if you have set up.

    Kind regards

  • VSOM and VSMS living in a server

We have two servers of CPS-MSP-2RU-K9 with VSOM + VSMS in both servers.

    It's (VSOM + VSMS) into Server-1 and new (VSOM + VSMS) Server-2.

Can I have for VSMS and also for VSOM redundancy by this method?

VSOM in a Server-1 can a control on VSMS in Server-2? What is a recommended Design?

For VSM7, there are several styles of redundancy available VSMS (Media Server), based on the matrix of the IP camera, you want to deploy.

There is currently nothing to * native * redundancy VSOM aside using VMWare High Availability deployment of VSM OVAs on platform Cisco UCS only.

There is a lot more that goes into a very successful design and deployment that the information you have provided here.  My personal recommendation is to take advantage of your Cisco ATP partners or, at the very least engage the Cisco Helpdesk's PDI (http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/tools/pdihd.html)

  • 1000V VSM lossing contact VEM after vMotion

    Hello

We have installed 1000v VSMs as virtual machines on a Server Blade HP virtual connect modules.

This worked well and we migrated most of the VMS to 1000v. Same HA between the primary and backup VSMs worked.

Now, we see that if you live migrate the active MSM is loses all contact with the MEC, but backup VSM is supported unless you turn off an asset, the same thing happens when clients trend Deep Security Manager did some update to the VSM VM.

We have the 1000v deployed in L3 mode with the help of control interface and the MEC have their own vmkernel IP address, which in this case is on the same IP subnet as the VSM control interface.

Yes, the problem is that any port-profile with "l3control of ability" is supposed to only works with the vmk interfaces.

You want to put a VM interface on port-profile with l3control. We used to allow this, but for some reason any, he was shot.

Create another port-profile just for control 0 and see if that fixes the problem. Yet once make identical except for the "l3control ability.

Your version is good. I'll have to play in my lab. I'm kind of confused why your VSM2 gets blocked while quick loading when you vmotion VSM1. That shouldn't happen now.

  • VSM 4.0.2.1 pulls not groups information

    Hello

I have deployed dell virtual storage manager 2 days ago and I added PS groups him

so far it pull information about groups of PS

both groups say connected capacity 0 MB use 0%

vcenter server and vsm device both PS management ports are on the same subnet, they are all talk to each other very well, I have not added/configured ISCSI network on the device

    clues?

also try to get in the newspapers of diagnostics that are registered in the \\applianceipaddress\etc... he ask username and password and I tried the default settings, and he would never let me

    Thank you

Hmmm... I can only suggest that you open a support folder so that they can work it directly.

  • EQL / VSM / MEM / vSphere upgrade order

    Hello

I see now that v8, MEM 1.3 EQL and VSM 4.5 have been released as EPA so I can upgrade to vSphere 6!

Is there an order of upgrade recommended for all of these components?  I guess EQL v8 first, then the environment vSphere, then MEM, then VSM?

I think I read THAT MEM 1.2 was not compatible with vSphere 6?  If this is the case, I guess I have to switch to the RR before upgrading vSphere and then apply 1.3 MEM?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

I agree first of all of the firmware on board.  Remove the MEM, then upgrade vSphere Server v6 then ESXi nodes to v6.0.  You can do MEM or VSM in order any at that time.

    Kind regards

  • HIT / ME for Dell EQL - this will improve line performance and capacity

    Hello

I'm new to Dell EQL. Got a server running VMware ESXi 5.1 U1 executes a single virtual machine with Windows 2008 R2 and MS SQL 2008 R2.

Tried the replication between the size of the replica EQLs has reached 500 MB to 1 GB despite the growth of the database per day is around 50 MB only.

I read about a white paper, which suggests to use the direct storage. In short I will introduce a volume of the virtual machine directly via the Windows iSCSI initiator.

In fact, I did already saw minimal improvement.

Will install HIT / solve ME my problem of replication?

What KEY / to ME in order to protect MS SQL?

He is able to save only the changes to the SQL database and not these useless bits that are my replication problem...

    Thank you

    Paul

    Hello

No. HIT / ME and VSM allow the creation of snapshots and much more consistent replicas.  Since the cached are flushed to storage before the process of creation.  HIT / VSM and I do very differentlly under the covers, but the end result is the same.

HIT / the advantage ME in addition to work directly with SQL, Exchange, and SharePoint.  The HIT / ME docs have more information on the benefits of the use of HIT / me.

Nor will affect the size of the replication. EQL table is a block storage device. The blocks are organized in large pages.  When you edit a page, the entire page is allocated.

  • Nexus 1000v and vmkernel ports

What is the best practice to put on the nexus 1000v vmkernel ports? Is it a good idea to put all the ports of vms and vmkernel on nexus 1000v? switch or dvs or some vmkernel as management ports must be on a standard?  If something happens to the 1000v, all management and vms will be unreachable.

    any tips?

Yep, that's correct. Port system profiles don't require any communication between the MEC and VSM.

  • VSM 9.1 random crash, freeze, does not

At our Organization, we went live with VSM 9.1 (new installation, not an upgrade) after previously running below 8.0. Our leaders have reported that VSM randomly stops responding.  Sometimes it will recover after a wait of 30 to 60 seconds, but other times that I said that it is necessary to end task and reconnect again.  Does anyone else know this?  Any ideas?

We lack of SQL Server 2008, and our application server is Windows Server 2003.  The application server is currently running at the same time the old Infra 8 installation (available access to the historical call data) and VSM 9.1 installation.  No other application is hosted on the application server.  Application server is a virtual machine.  The server that is running SQL is a system very robust 64 bit with several processor that runs many SQL databases for several applications and is not flinching when it comes to resources.  CPU utilization on the application server typically runs between 0 and 5%, but sometimes show up tp 50% or more when executing a VSM service such as indexing, connector or messaging.  The CPU reaches very rarely anywhere near 100% usage.

Agents use a combination of Windows 7 and Windows XP computers, with Internet Explorer 9 (Win 7) or Internet explorer 8 (XP).  The two versions of Internet Explorer and operating systems have experienced the problem of gel.  There currently seems to be no correlation on a time of day, or activity.  Agents have reported freezing when you click new call button, when entering data in fields on the call screen, when changing the screens of the call, and I've known the gel on rare occasions when within the Administration area.  Without correlation regarding time of day or activity which is performed at the time of the accident, I am at a loss to know where to start troubleshooting.  I did raise this point with VMware support yet, because I have not much more information to give them what is described above.

Everyone please chime in if you have something to add.  Thanks in advance.

The delay with the question of the controls/wrapper is because we lost our key delphi developer. However, a consultant bought onboard and many corrections were made to the controls and wrapper for 9.1.3 based on his comments. I suggest upgrading to 9.1.3 if possible, otherwise a fix for new controls so you're on 9.1.0 - 9.1.2. For the earlier 9.0.x version, there is also a patch fixed 9.0.10.x with the same controls.

About the lifecycle of VSM, please see the following link

    https://www.VMware.com/support/policies/lifecycle/enterprise-infrastructure/

Please note that these dates for 9.x was already extended for two years, so support and even improvements are still being worked on.

  • VLAN list displays badly on bonds rising n1000v after upgrade to 1.5

We see a very curious thing after the upgrade of our n1000v to 1.5 (on vSphere4 - ESX 4.1):

If you look in vCenter, under the notice of the network inventory, on the ports tab of the list of data for the n1000v uplinks the rising host all show a strange list of VLAN in the VLAN ID column. Before the update list VLAN correctly showed the list of VLANS allowed in the uplinks (as noted from the point of view both MEC and VSM) but after the update this list changed to "6-15, 17-41. The curious thing is that none of these VLANs are still used in the environment, and none of them exist on the VSM or network upstream devices. The VEM, MSM and other network devices all still show the VLAN correct, so fortunately, everything is functioning as expected, workloads have adequate connectivity etc. The only thing is that this view vCenter is false.

Has anyone seen this behavior and has any suggestions why we see this? We talked to two Cisco and VMware support and both are buffled by here.

After some research we believe than that a bug on our side. We're still investigating, but I have a bug - id that you can follow if you wish.

the bug - id is CSCtz24512

  • Host for vmware integration tools

where can I download the host for Vmware integration tools?

the support site are not providing the relevant download

    https://eqlsupport.Dell.com/support/download.aspx?ID=3199

Klick on VMware integration or eqlsupport.dell.com/.../download.aspx

Its a set of programs. Most likely, you are looking for the MEM (Module of Extension Multipath) and VSM (Virtual Storage Manager), formerly known as the ASM/VE. The last is the "plugin" for the connection between your group EQL and vSphere vCenter. His only usable in the 'new' WebClient vSphere and not for the old c# one.

  • ESXi 5.5 support

    Hello

Is there any word on when there will be software and support for ESXi 5.5 for the MEM and VSM please?

After doing some digging it seems there is a provisional release for next week, but to be safe, I would say that in the next two weeks you will begin to see new released versions that support 5.5 ESXi. I would like to know if there is anything else I can do for you.

  • Upgrade to ESXi on NGC

    Hello

I have esxi4.1 installed on a few servers B200 M2, esxi has been installed with the cisco-ucs-esxi image.

the question is I want to upgrade to esxi5, what image should I use now? the normal esxi5 of vmware or cisco-UCS-esxi5 image?

IM upgrading to the formware ucs of 1.4 to 2.0 before that.

I loaded about 100 B200s with ESXi 5 and never used the standard ISO VMware. The B200s were VIC M81KR adapters.

To update to 4.1 I did only reconstructions. Many of them had the N1KV VEM and PowerPath VE so I thought it was the safest route.

  • How to display a matrix referenced by an agreement?

We have an agreement in VSM who was created some time ago.  The person who created it has since left, and while I can see in the agreement of what we call the matrix I can't view the matrix or find where exactly it is stored.

How to display the matrix so I know exactly what are the parameters of the agreement?

    Morgaur welcome!

Matrix itself could be defined/configured in the system-> Service Level Management-> definition of matrix management.

In an agreement Setup window, you can assign existing matrices for the thresholds of breach and/or climbing.

SLM, Knowledge Management, & the Service Portal Administrator's Guide and VSM Service level management user's Guide could be useful.
