  OK, here's one for someone who knows Win7 Kernel internals.

  Someone has an idea of what I might try next? I did all the standard things that are recommended for problems of Media Extender, including uninstalling and reinstalling all components of media. Re-installation of Windows is NOT an option at this stage, this computer is used by all my children, and there would be a mutiny if he became unavailable for a long period of time (especially for as "lame" reason like this).   e. make sure also that the ServiceSidType is set to 1.
